will plunge deep on last selection tomorrow as ..all beat except rule the ( betting ) world . .................sure to be placed at least keep the faith ...........

It does help admire a tipster like Tom Segal. He knows he's followed by thousands and I'm sure he feels the pressure like Rog when his selections misfire. He has to come up with 3 or more every Saturday or big race day though. The cynics will say he just banks the cheque and couldn't care less, but whenever you see him on TV he comes across as a very decent bloke.

not bad it keeps me thinking ?? tough Cheltenham if you don't get a break . do I NEED TO BRUSH UP a bit on the dots too many ... and dashes --- mary .......

put me away, with first tip alderwood .. never recovered . I am flying upside down at the moment over chelts . ? just a job, tipping horses, similar to being, a good seller of magazines ...?? only better remuneration .. old folks homes full of people following TIPSTERS BOOKING my space very soon as that's where I am heading .

Foyles, I hope you don't think I was having a go at you, thast was not my aim, I was just feeling a bit sorry for Roger. I'm sure he agonised loads over the selection. There's numerous regular posters on here I would say were perfect for organising such a plunge, and you would be one. My point is basically; there is such a knowledgable bunch on here that I feel pulling this knowledge would be a very good thing in terms of coming up with a "plunge" that is all, no particular criticism of anyone.

When all is said and done I'd rather back something Foyles carefully chose than one of my own selections.
I suppose it would be even better if GI and Rog and a few of the good judges on here pooled their skills. I don't think we'll move markets at Cheltenham unless we get a four-fold running onto the 4th selection. It's legendary for the strength of money. When I joined C0rals as a manager, way back in 1986, we were told that Ladblokes had sent 40 G to the ring because they wanted to shrink the SP on a 9/4 chance. They had the whole £90,000/£40,000 and the price went out to 5/2. |

hi lads, gi mac no probs didn't think anyone was having a go ,just disappointed with the results of the multiple after the work put in ,probably got my expectations to high , better to be confident than negative in this game ,still think the multiple and handicap idea is a sound one ,with the multiple to smallish stakes at decent prices ,will obviously be more chance of losing than winning but kop it once and it could be a life changer !
we need to make changes to the format and perhaps we can be more open with the selections and discuss them on the forum as we are not going to move chelt markets but it would be nice to keep the plunges going each year good luck all ! |
By:
Somebodys gotta go do it Foyles, I'll be back on board next year.
By:
pick 3 or 4 people and have a commitee that pool wisdom, but do it all by private message, not open forum
By:
What difference does making it private make?
By:
I'd be up for "plunges" on other meetings. Great fun.
Royal Ascot Aintree Goodwood York Aintree is a better punters' meeting than Cheltenham in some ways. |
By:
yeah other meetings am up for but yeah a open discussion with the horse with the most votes getting put in the bets
By:
aintree the next plunge ? democratic vote on the selections ?
By:
We we peaked too early on the Gigginstown horses, I was convinced after the first 3 days they were going to be winnerles

you cant beat a good plunge ! hats off to the festival plungers !
By:
Lovely to see this thread back at the top. Are we using this, or do we need a new one?
By:
stick with this one I would say peter ....... a democratic vote on the selections ,obviously nearer the festival ! whos up for the same format a single and a each way multi ?
By:
Yep,same again Foyles I think mate.
Different result though!!!! ![]() |
By:
yeah it would be fantastic to get a positive result this year ,but a bit of fun for low stakes with the possibility of a big return !
By:
Last year's format was perfect.

By:
Count me in.

By:
I'll be in as normal, I love the forum festival plunge. Same format as last year would be great.
I'll happily provide you with the winner of the RSA as I'v backed the winner 5 years out of the last 6. ![]() Any of the other festival races though and I'd probably select a donkey ![]() |
By:
I prefer when we pick a handicapper. It won't win, but we could affect the market, which is the main aim I think!
By:
?
By:
Pity there isn't a horse running called 'Drain Buster', or similar.

By:
Who's turn is it to pick TPH this year?
By:
think it should be a democratic vote for the multi ,and for the single whoever has the balls to step upto the plate ! by the way maryc and whoever is interested ,there is a free tipping contested starting soon on the horses forum ,betfair have kindly donated £150 prize money and there are a few places left see George bs fred !
By:
I'm in - just as long as I'm not doing any of the selections!
Look back a couple of pages and you'll see I did the 'Plunge Single'. I gave the rationale behind the race selection, which I think is still valid, but I have to say, the weight of expectation (i.e. that you guys would be putting your hard-earned on something I selected) was quite a tough cross to bear surprisingly and I was on edge most of Festival Tuesday until Vintage Star ran (badly!) Didn't enjoy the responsibility one little bit ![]() |

Was just going to start a new thread for this year on this on the 9 weeks to go mark.
Fair Play Rog i shall start a new one then (no pun intended) |
By:
what were last years selections apart from rogers feck up of course
apologies roger couldn't resist |
By:
I fecked it up last year with the multis ........I picked 3 of giggistowns who won just about every race they went in for except the 3 I fookin picked !soz but that's racin !
By:
haven't followed this thread - what is the aim price wise or race wise???
By:
and when do you go in week of race???
By:
Think it was the day before the race last year harry, once the decs were up.
By:
and race wise - price wise fanatic??
what is the aim if you know what i mean ie criteria |
By:
roger picked it last year harry, so he's probably the best person to give you the rationale. If we do the same, it will be a handicap and probably something which can be backed EW. Whilst we all hope the horse will win, I think the purpose is a bit of mischief making as much as anything else.
By:
the aim with the multi is to make participants big money ! and a bit of fun along the way !
