All snippets and thoughts in relation to any of the 3 days to go here.

I've got tickets for the Friday and Saturday - can't wait as this is one of my favourite meets of the year.

It looks as though we won't be seeing Cue Card in the main event. Any ideas on early fancies?

Just to note for those that may have missed it, there's a good thread on the feature race running on the Antepost board.
Report Glossy October 23, 2012 10:37 PM BST
Cheers stront, hadn't seen that. Best keep this as discussion on the meet as a whole then.
Report bluebirdfan November 15, 2012 10:20 AM GMT
Dynaste is starting off very highly tomorrow, taking on Fingal Bay in the big novice chase. The novice hurdle looks a good race as well, as does the 2m handicap. Good card tomorrow
Report festivalfanatic November 15, 2012 10:41 AM GMT
Decs been made yet?
Report bluebirdfan November 15, 2012 11:31 AM GMT
Yep
Report festivalfanatic November 15, 2012 11:37 AM GMT
First race is a cracker - hard to imagine a more competitive 5 runner novice chase!

Novice hurdle looks a decent race too.

The rest of it doesn't fill me with huge excitement.
Report strontium November 15, 2012 12:31 PM GMT
I agree with you FF, though I'd go further and say the novice hurdle also looks a belter.

At least the rest of the card looks competetive, if not inspiring.

Any experts want to tell me what will win the XC?
Report Can't Catch Me November 15, 2012 1:33 PM GMT
I believe AP is riding Its a Gimme! Amazed at that tbh, even if it is because they will put a claimer on darlan.
Report Can't Catch Me November 15, 2012 1:35 PM GMT
Forget that... still deciding. I misread my text!
Report strontium November 15, 2012 1:42 PM GMT
IAG was very impressive at Ascot last weekend and is a few pounds well in now. I don't buy all the Darlan hype.
Report Can't Catch Me November 15, 2012 1:44 PM GMT
I'm unsure to be honest stront. I think Darlan is potentially top class and I definitely think he's better than Its a Gimme. But 11lb's isnt to be sniffed at.

To be honest, Im really surprised this is the plan with IAG. Thought he'd have a few quiet runs to get himself a nice mark for a race for the festival.
Report strontium November 15, 2012 1:53 PM GMT
Darlan might be top class but the signs are very bad for the Supreme form so far and Darlan looks worse at Cheltenham than elsewhere to me. He really struggled at the December meeting last year, though tbf he must have improved radically to come second in the Supreme. 5/2 looks way too short in a race with some good handicappers and some unexposed/progressive types off low weights.
Report liam the lips November 15, 2012 2:04 PM GMT
Hi CCM - do you know what the reason for Cash and Go's bad scope was after the Deloitte ?
Report Can't Catch Me November 15, 2012 2:06 PM GMT
Thats a very fair point about him at Chelts. He has certainly looked better suited to flat tracks.

I dont see that much strength in depth myself. I think its too early to write the Supreme off yet, and I think it will end up being decent form. Not vintage but good enough for him to go close in this field.
Report Can't Catch Me November 15, 2012 2:09 PM GMT
Hi Liam. yes it was just some mucus, nothing major.
Report liam the lips November 15, 2012 2:17 PM GMT
Cheers CCM
Report judorick November 15, 2012 2:18 PM GMT
definitely think the handicap hurdle is far more competitive than many think, plenty unexposed and the Irish are difficult to assess

extremely tricky race and I can see it being similar to last year with a whole bunch in contention jumping 2 out and a massive charge to the line where some luck will be required (like Moon Dice last year got stopped up the rail and had to switch, lost many lengths)

tough race really

I'l be in the Plaisterers (winchcombe) around 10.30 sampling some of the finest black stuff this country has to offer (certainly better than the shyte they serve on track) ! Tongue Out

Don't forget it's on C4 on each of the 3 days Happy

I'm really hoping Grands Crus wins the PP GC. If he can't manage it then I'm hoping my fave mare of the moment  Nadiya De La Vega can win.

I'm so excited. I love this meeting Grin

"surely you will be cheering on AP won't you?"

Hi Rick,

I adore Grands Crus Love and love it when the Pipe's win this race.
Has David Pipe won it yet? I'm sure he must have done, I can't remember Confused

I'm hoping AP is going to ride NDLV. Do we know yet?

I hope you have a great 3 days. I'll be here for the duration Happy

Maybe this is the time to catch Kid Cassidy after his...er..."effort" last time at Aintree.
Report resner not lesnar November 15, 2012 7:27 PM GMT
Makybe, Great Endeavour won it for David last year. I'm very hopeful Grands Crus will do the job this time round. Not the best price but potentially very well in if you still believe in him like I do. I've backed him for this and the KG so fingers crossed he's back to his best.
Report judorick November 15, 2012 7:30 PM GMT
she doesn't bet Resnar, she's just soppy for horses Happy
Report Glossy November 15, 2012 9:00 PM GMT
Can't for the life of me see how Dynaste's price is just a couple of ticks higher than that of Fingal Bay. Think some see that it's one of Pipe's and a grey at that; and start making lazy comparisons with Grand Crus when the 2 horses form in staying hurdles is not really comparable. On his first time over fences, couldn't back him at that price in a million years.

I know there was some debate about how impressive Fingal Bay was on his chasing bow but I was very taken by his jumping and fully expect him to win this race fairly comfortably, though just doing enough; as is the Fingal way Happy
Report Mr Eboue November 15, 2012 9:04 PM GMT
Agree 100%. Anybody backing Dynaste at 15/8 needs therapy.
Report judorick November 15, 2012 9:18 PM GMT
could be worth laying in the place market then fellas at around 1.5

seem to remember he is a hard puller and that won't help round there on chase debut
Report GoldCupWinner November 15, 2012 10:03 PM GMT
Tiger o'toole didn't exactly frank the form NTO for Fingal Bay. I'd take a chance on the Nicholls horse at the prices.
Report Glossy November 15, 2012 10:09 PM GMT
Wouldn't worry too much about the form not being franked. Fingal isn't the type to dish out massive beatings. Just does enough to win.
Report GoldCupWinner November 15, 2012 10:16 PM GMT
did the Nicholls horse only jump 4 fences LTO or did they jump 10/16? Bit of a farce of a race if they only jumped 4!
Report GoldCupWinner November 15, 2012 11:11 PM GMT
2.35 looks a fascinating race. One horse I think is a tad short is run with the wind. Favourite sets a decent standard but very interested to see how Tominator gets on given he gave weight and a beating to triumph winner o the flat.
Report judorick November 15, 2012 11:14 PM GMT
in the amateur riders, Venetia runs Pentific with Will Biddick riding

if he can reproduce his effort at Doncaster a few runs ago he can go close, 12.5 looks good enough for a back to lay
Report harry callaghan November 16, 2012 12:15 AM GMT
interesting the negativity on here about dynaste looked to always be a chaser in the making to me...i can see him destroying these if getting into a rhythm on the easy lead and also getting 5lbs off of fingal bay who wasn't impressive first time up but is obviously entitled to improve and is respected...
Report cufcno1 November 16, 2012 12:20 AM GMT
its a gimme wasnt that far off the best in novice hurdles last year, would have went very close at aintree but for bad mistake, thrown in on sunday and will only get better over a trip!
Report judorick November 16, 2012 1:01 AM GMT
'thrown in' is a bit strong seeing he was beaten off 5lb lower last time out

"Can't for the life of me see how Dynaste's price is just a couple of ticks higher than that of Fingal Bay."

"Agree 100%. Anybody backing Dynaste at 15/8 needs therapy."

There's a perfectly good case to be made for backing Dynaste today without making "lazy comparisons with Grands Crus" - rated 13lbs better than the fav over hurdles, receives 5lbs today, goes well fresh, trainer tends to target this meeting, the form of Fingal Bay's chase win let down since - and insulting his backers as in need of therapy is a bit much. FB might win but he's a short-priced fav to do so.
Report GoldCupWinner November 16, 2012 9:44 AM GMT
I think Dynaste is rated too high over hurdles due to running against Big Bucks. Should be closer to 150. That being said I wouldn't be writing this horse off as the favourite still has it to prove over fences.

Thanks resner. Goodness how could I have not remembered that Shocked I worry about myself sometimes.

Very very sad that Great Endeeavour is no longer with us.

Yes, like Rick said I don't bet. Well, I don't make a habit of it, let's put it like that.
I did have a dabble last year at Cheltenham, for the very first time. It wan't a good experience Crazy

I'm glad you're keen on Grands Crus. I'm fully expecting him to win Grin

It looks a brilliant race. I see Forpadydeplaterer is running and is only 10 years old. He seems to have been around for ever! I think he could run well.

Pleased that AP is on Nadiya Happy I've a feeling he's got a soft spot for that mare Love

I just hope they all come back safe.

33/1 looks big for Poquelin given he's back down to his last winning mark over CD and is an easy winner over CD on soft ground albeit off a lower mark. I don't understand how he is a longer price than Calgary Bay for example.

TEAFORTHREE 1.55

With the ease in the going and with the jockey claiming a massive 10lbs, this horse surely has a huge chance, beat Harry the Viking fair and square at levels yet will carry 6lb less today

currently 10 to back which is massive
