why all this cloak and dagger with this horse at the moment. Is he not working well ? are they undecided on target ? reasons could go on and on and the main reason for this is the silence at the moment from the trainer. Last week the horse was flying this week negative vibes. COME ON DONALD PUT US PUNTERS IN THE PICTURE PLEASE !!!!!!!

I thought he would of said something by now. Could it be due to him wanting announce any news in his Betfair column??
Report shockster March 2, 2012 1:41 PM GMT
On Twitter this morning.  Exact McCain quote on Peddlers last eve "Plan A is still the Arkle unless something tells us otherwise" Couple of schooling sessions planned
Report jetodd March 2, 2012 1:54 PM GMT
Shockster - That doesn't explain the weakness though. If plan A was still the Arkle then surely he'd be shorter than 7/1.
Report shockster March 2, 2012 1:58 PM GMT
Can't help you Jet. 7/1 is a good price if Plan A is to be believed.
Report jetodd March 2, 2012 2:03 PM GMT
I agree, hopefully he's at Newbury today and RUK mange to get a interview off him.
Report duffy March 2, 2012 2:18 PM GMT
listening to maguire just being interviewed then by lydia i got the impression that the jewson is favourite.
Report jetodd March 2, 2012 2:18 PM GMT
J Maguire just been interviewed on RUK,looks like the Jewson to me!!

Maybe Grade 1 horses do run in grade 2 races Surprised

Mccains bottling it.

Was 11/4 the other day.

7/1 now.

Something doesnt add up.
Report jetodd March 2, 2012 3:02 PM GMT
It's also an example of why the Jewson is bad for the festival.

I hate the idea of him swerving the Arkle to take the 'easier' race.
Report differentdrum March 2, 2012 3:27 PM GMT
You could say the same about the Neptune and Albert Bartlett but the real issue is McCain taking until March to seemingly decide the Jewson is the easier race and then not bother to make a statement - almost as pathetic as Nicholls.
Report Tucho March 2, 2012 3:38 PM GMT
i've been a big fan of mccain and peddlers cross but if they go for the jewson, after everything they've said since kempton, i hope they get thoroughly beaten
Report stevo1 March 2, 2012 3:45 PM GMT
Agree if tue he is as bad if not worse than the others!!!  Bottle job dont be afraid of one horse was one of his statements!!!!!!
Report duffy March 2, 2012 4:18 PM GMT
his old man would have sorted him out....get that bloody horse in the arkle and stick it to those southern nancies.Grin
Report Martin pipe returns March 2, 2012 4:21 PM GMT
What did JM say?
Report duffy March 2, 2012 4:36 PM GMT
basically he said that the hesitancy is down to the fact that as yet he's not competed properly in a 2 mile race over fences against top opposition in order to establish whether the 2 miles is the right trip or not...obviously they are disregarding the kempton race as he was beat after the first fence.
Report duffy March 2, 2012 4:37 PM GMT
obviously if he had the chance to race against the likes of french opera like SS did last time they would have an idea of whether he needed to go further or not.

personally, i would rather be a winner at Cheltenham, any race is a good one. 2nd, 3rd or 4th is not much fun, even if it is the big one. cheers.

Arkle and Jewson markets suspended

News imminent imo

After a lot of discussion between myself, Jason [Maguire] and owner Tim Leslie, it has been decided that Peddlers Cross will head to the Jewson Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

It has been a long road back from the setback he had at Kempton in December and we feel at this stage that the 2m4f event will be more beneficial to him in the long term, as we did when running him in the Neptune rather than the Supreme when he was a novice hurdler.

Because of his problems after Kempton, we haven't been able to school him as intensively as we would have liked and feel that going that half stride slower in the longer race makes sense.

Plan A  Yeah Yeah - Nice little bonus for the stable staff
Report TITCH 1 March 5, 2012 7:52 PM GMT
Disgrace imo, this was decided a long time ago judging by the markets.

Joke decision. AP punters put well away. Disgraceful. Plan A my arse.

For once not pocket talking.

worth steaming into the 5.5 @ hills with a view to laying off?

What a grade A t0sser! I've lost money on horses switching races in the past but this one really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Learn from this Donald - if you are not sure say so, other trainers sit on the fence. Don't come out and state something that is clearly not the plan.

Really come out of this badly...

All been put away there "The Arkle is the plan unless something happens to make us think differently" from Saturday's Racing Post.

Interested to know exactly what did happen!!
Report duffy March 5, 2012 8:06 PM GMT
what a fooking coward, i'm a PC fan but i am struggling very hard to not want him to get stuffed.
Report Senor El Betrutti March 5, 2012 8:12 PM GMT
personally I think Peddlers isn't working the house down and they think he can win the Jewson only being 90% right. I don't think he can and I wouldn't touch any 3/1.
Report differentdrum March 5, 2012 8:16 PM GMT
What a season this horse has had - two tin pot races at Bangor that told you precisely nothing and then that abject surrender at Kempton. Now a white flag job from McCain who has basically sold ante-post punters down the river. If he has jumping issues he isn't going to win the Jewson.
Report mesi March 5, 2012 8:37 PM GMT
will pp still refund peddlers bets in arkle if ss wins
Report Speculation March 5, 2012 8:42 PM GMT
No he had to finish second to SSPlain
Report TITCH 1 March 5, 2012 8:44 PM GMT
No, refund ALL bets if SS wins, not sure if this includes PC but i dony see why not?
Report connazz2 March 5, 2012 8:44 PM GMT
hes a kipper 2 faced and gutless if you ask me. i truly hope he gets turned over next week . what on earth would ginger think about it
Report judorick March 5, 2012 8:46 PM GMT
no the offer was "money back if Sprinter Sacre wins the Arkle"

no mention of finishing second but I would guess you do have to take part to get your money back so all those who lumped on should in theory lose out but I will guess PP will return bets for those who backed PC after the ofer was made but before the announcement that the Jewson is the race
Report Speculation March 5, 2012 8:51 PM GMT
Yes you are right (addled brain these days) but selection has to run in the race to get a refund from the T&CsPlain
