Can he win the Jewson given his prep ?
By:
Just rad the opening post
Jeweson bounf now according to McCain |
By:
I wouldnt be a backer at 3/1 sinty.
By:
Nor would I Eboue. Part of me wishes he wont win either.
By:
He can prob up the Jeweson Market nicely. Won't win imo.
By:
Agree, poor prep needs to prove his jumping again.
By:
Dont really get why their running him at all if he's had a problem to be honest,
and as i said the other day, nobody remembers Jewson winners, bit of a nothing race tbh |
By:
Disgusting behaviour. Backing the horse for the Jewson on here while letting everyone think he was running in the Arkle. Betfair need to get rid of him.
By:
Hope they've done their money on this race.
By:
Jewson only had one running OTS!
![]() |
By:
We've had a few Jewsons tbf
![]() |
By:
Only one in its current format. Its a shame they brought the race in, its helping ruin what was looking like a fantastic Arkle.
By:
Layers have certainly scooped the Jewson lot in the Arkle.
By:
There will be more than a few ironic cheers next Thursday if he comes up the hill in front thats a NAP
![]() |
By:
and there will be a few genuine cheers if he comes up the hill well beat.
By:
Mpr hitting a bottle of malt as we speak on the back of this news - nap
! Quietest winner of the festival - nb, will be a lot of ironic 'jeers' if he comes up the hill in front on the 15th !And i backed it for neither, one of the biggest bullets of this year and i actually dodged it omg ! |
By:
Arkle was still Plan A lat night, must use a different alphabet. A few of us will have nasty looking Jewson books now but difficult to think that people want to back it at 3/1 after what he has said (thinks Cloudy Lane is his best chance of winner!). Then again what's the value of what he has said.
By:
Sint i know that mate, but is doesnt have the same prestige as the Arkle does it?
it's a race for Novices who are'nt good enough for the Arkle and cant or wont stay 3 miles, The Ryanair for Novices,No one will remember the Arkle winners in 20 years time,i'd hazard a guess and say Arkle winners will always be remembered |
By:
Have to agree with the comments on here. Couldn't back him based on what has happened, and certainly won't be cheering him home.
By:
It looks like a top race to me. The previous winner is Noble Prince, and he's a good one. There's no point trying to taint the race because of these sort of events that transpire in the market. The fact is it is one of the top races of the festival.
By:
You're all too cynical - It was just a coincidence that it drifted from 3/1 to 9/1 on here whilst the Arkle was plan A - What are you trying to suggest ?
By:
RANCID.
By:
all these trainers are corrupt, only in it for themselves. no one cares about the punters
By:
I've loved racing since I was a boy over 40 years ago but you can't help feeling that the sheer number of strokes pulled suggest that it would be sweet justice if the whole pack of cards collapsed and some of these feckers ended up having to get real jobs instead of poncing off those they are ripping off.
By:
I agree.....Betfair will be paying McCain for his column and Betfair makes it's money form us, the punters....so he has, in turn, profited from us and basically strung us along for a long time now...it's shameful.
He's every right to run his horse in whatever race he thinks is best but dont take money for a column which has basically misled a lot of honest enthusiastic punters a run for thier money. |
By:
Makes Jewson market better value if you dont fancy him is only positive, and hope can you given prep and comments? If coming home in front maybe only horse to be booed up hill!!!
By:
the arkle looked the race of the festival a while back but sadly its loosing that a little now
whether you could of backed peddlers after his thrashing last time is debatable but would of liked to of seen him line up Donald saying just yesterday that the arkle was still plan A and then the very next day switch is dreadful PR after Paul Nicholls' carry on this weekend its been a disappointing show from the countries leading trainers |
By:
love the opening post - the fact there is a monkey next to the posters name only tickles me more
![]() |
By:
Just got back from Cheshire.
Donald now has a large placard reading "Plan A" sticking out of his 'aris. What with this, Simonsig going for the Neptune, Fingal Bay, Spirit Son, VLV swerving the Mares and now Boston Bob looking likely to skip the Neptune, we may as well have Grands Crus going for Gold to finish me off. ********INGBOLLOX :) |
By:
Have backed Cue Card for Arkle so this is good news in that respect.
However I actually really, really hope PC gets beaten in Jewson - the way this has been handled in the last week has been disgraceful. |
By:
Agreed re Mccain thought he was bit more honest than that, but most trainers dont give monkeys what punters think/ or losing money ante-post, without punters NO RACING!!!
By:
"What with this, Simonsig going for the Neptune, Fingal Bay, Spirit Son, VLV swerving the Mares and now Boston Bob looking likely to skip the Neptune, we may as well have Grands Crus going for Gold to finish me off."
Erm, I hate to say this, but Grands Crus is drifting for the RSA and shortening for the Gold Cup ![]() Chin up MPR, you called it as you saw it and backed up your opinion with cold hard cash. You just happened to call it wrong, and that happens to us all (I have backed Peddlers and Grands Crus heavily for the Arkle and RSA so I feel your pain)! In any case, you may have laid them at much bigger prices than they are now, but they haven't won yet, and it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings. Oh, and kudos for coming back to the thread and posting - many would simply have disappeared and then come back with a triumphant "I told you so" type post 5 minutes after Peddlers gets beat in the Jewson (or stay invisible if he wins). |
By:
havent had an interest in the jewson untill now, with peddlers propping up the market gonna take him on at the price ! after all the shenanigans hope it gets turned over ! sadly they have already cleaned up . good luck mpr hope it goes your way!
By:
imho, team Peddlars know there was not a whole lot wrong with him at Kempton and have no chance of winning the Arkle with SS in the race. Every owner wants to win at the festival and they know they may win the Jewson but can't win the Arkle. Makes sense to me, and I've bet PC for the Arkle
![]() |
By:
I think most if us would agree it presents them with the best chance of a Festival win, so is the right decision for the horse. But why not say that?
NJH was getting a lot of stick on here for his dilly dallying with Simonsig, but at least he has always been honest and said they don't know which race he will go for. Nobody can have any excuses if they backed him in the wrong race. I haven't backed PC but can see why those who have are livid with DM. |
By:
I was at the John Morris preview night. He loves McCain and the yard, loves Peddlars Cross and although he didnt say it, I suspect he was probably balls deep in Peddlars Cross for the Arkle. He looked sick. The first thing they said at the start of the night was that PC was confirmed for the Jewson.
The whole affair is sad but predictable. Another chapter in the sorry affair that is the Cheltenham run-in, yards trying to keep prices big for as long as possible, and the only way they can do it is to put the punters away. Using a column you are (presumably) paid for writing is a bit much. |

There is just no logic in running in the Jewson. I remember what Alan King said when faced with same choice with My Way De Solzen. He said he'd never sleep if he won the Jewson as he could have prob been placed in the Arkle. There must me another motive for such a wimpish action, and IMO it is probably money.
It does seem odd that Ladbrokes have gone a point above all the other bookies throughout!! I have had bombs on with them at 4/1 when he was 3/1 and 100/30 everywhere else, so am touch biased. Thought it was a free bet as seemed certain to be placed. Also due to my faith in human nature I could not see the stable running in the Jewson so I have laid it to the maximum at 9s and 10s. In the deep sh 1 t, but has taught me a lesson. I knew that Ginger was dodgy, but I gave Donald the benefit of the doubt until now. Shameful. |

Had 6-1 for the Arkle & was just waiting to collect? How wrong you can be, what I've lost is probs a drop in the ocean compared to most of you but it does leave a sour taste. Have backed Champion Court in the Jewson so if PC wins it that'll be a nice bit of salt in the wound. Ah well nothing like a bit of pain to keep you alert!

The Jewson was a handicap then though Harry. If it was a grade 2 then, I reckon MWDS would have ran in it.
