Hi Ginger, how's Rummy?
By:
He says "neigh".
Surprising its still being backed, cant see any way it goes to the Jewson. |

Give the old boy a carrot from Pipey and ask him to visit Prince de Beauchene in his sleep and give him a few word of advice for getting round Aintree. Let's face it if he jumps round well he wins :)

What are your liabilities on him? Connections revealing their hand on the Jewson today after taking your money.

Maybe Martin pipe returns can confirm how much they got on with him and at what average price so we can see how serious they are about the Jewson?
By:
Have a look at the graph Eric... just under 2k bet on the horse in total.
Hope mpr didnt lay any of the 110 and 120! |
By:
There's no such thing as free money. It would be good to know how recently mpr laid the bets and to how much and what price they went to, to see the strength of their convictions on the Jewson.

Seems suddenly uneasy in the Arkle market too (probably on the back of this thread though!)
By:
See news item on Sporting Life site. Doesn't give confidence if you have backed for Arkle or Jewson.
By:
Yes the vibes from D McC are not great are they. I was concerned earlier today when I heard he was considering a racecourse gallop after racing at Bangor as that suggested he thought there was a problem (resumably fitness wise). Odd though that he is considering running in the Jewson - if the horse won't be ready to do itself justice in the Arkle why run in the Jewson !!!
By:
Connections have never ducked a challenge with this one so it would be hard to believe he would take the easy option in the Jewson. Let's Just hope the horse is OK.
By:
The Jewson trip will suit better.
By:
He has been talking up the clash with SS though for months so why decide 13 days before the race the trip might not suite. As DD says the McCain stable are not usualy ones to shirk a challenge. All very odd !
By:
in his own words; "The Arkle is Plan A"
all he is said is which of the other 3 entries is plan B, no big deal unless you really want to make it one? |
By:
Choosing what is best for the horse over bravado is not shirking it is exactly the opposite imo.

Grade 1 horses should be running in Grade 1 races, not some Mickey Mouse event like the Jewson

I don't think the issue is the trip. It seems to me that he thinks he won't be confident about Peddlars being 100% for Cheltenham and Jewson would be easier target.
By:
Sounds like he isnt spot on reading between the lines.
By:
Not a worry that he says he hardly schooled the horse and it hasn't jumped a fince since December?
By:
Definitely a worry. I couldn't have him at the price anyway, but after what McCain's said I wouldn't back him at twice his current price.
By:
You lot must have had cloth in your ears for the last 3 months as the Jewson was mentioned after the Kempton run.
And as Thieves says, nothing to be made from it, unless you want to. |
By:
The Jewson is run 2 days later. If his prep is nip and tuck, 48 hours can make a lot of difference.
By:
"it's been a longish road back. He had his issues after Kempton and I think it's only fair to the horse to keep our options open and we'll see how he is over the next 10 days before we decide"
If that make you as confident as you were yesterday, good luck to you. |
By:
Good luck to you if you're prepared to back a horse in a championship race where 48 h of prep will make any difference.
By:
I've not backed him at all stront, just trying to rationalise McCain's public meanderings.
By:
Good luck with that 'n' all

I have at 7\1 and am gutted!! between the lines its screaming no chance!

3/1 favourite for the Jewson now with the Magic Sign. Mind you, AF is only 5/1 with them!

Laddies must be going NRNB from tomorrow then

Martin pipe returns doesnt seem interested in his own thread now ... or helping people on here.

Morning Eric, thank you for your concern :)
I appreciate that you lost a good nights sleep worrying over Pipey's pot. I have £325 laid at 18.25 average. Worst bit of which is £25 at 46. I was out getting trolleyed in London when the story broke and it peed me right off. Having reflected on the situation I have come to the conclusion that it was a bit of a throwaway comment by the trainer. I have read comments from the interview but did not actually see it so I'm not sure if the Jewson comments were in response to a question about his other entries or whether DM started the subject? I'm hoping the former. It's probably that the horse isn't quite pleasing them 100% at the moment (though previously he had been indicating quite the opposite). The press can then hang a story on something like his Jewson comment and away we go. If I was to ask him which of the alternative entries was most likely I would have expected the Jewson to be the answer. Had I said "So I see you have a kept him in the Champion Hurdle" and he had said "Yes we need to keep our options open, he was second last year you know !" then next thing he's in to 15 on here for that race :) What I'm saying is that I am approaching this as a bit of a non story and have been laying him again last night at 7. If he's not right I think they'll give the fez a swerve. Drift in the Arkle = CORRECT. Price crash in the Jewson = WRONG. That's my opinion. |
By:
Would agree with most of what you say. Dont think they fancy him trying to outjump Sprinter Sacre, they will only know if this muscle problem will come back every time he is asked to jump very quick as in an Arkle. This could be the reason they mentioned the Jewson though I would think they will consider it if he just isnt sparking over his fences to use his engine as his most lethal weapon over a trip instead. He doesnt look a 2 miler over fences.
By:
Jury's out for me on that one. Hopefully we'll find out in the Arkle, though I can't get that Neptune win out of my mind where he appeared outpaced at one stage before staying on. Still hopefully he has strengthened up since then and he didn't look paceless in last year's campaign. As others have said the trainer thinks this is Pegasus and won't swerve the race because of SS.
