I can quite see the appeal of sticking to hurdles R Carver. There look to be several reasons why he may improve. He was quite keen in his races as a novice, he wasn't the cleanest of jumpers, and he still has some growing to do. Now he is out of novice company and has some experience on his side, not to mention decent form in the book, I can envisage a great deal of improvement.
I still like this horse. It is not a blindspot. I do think he's destined for a good season. He will be in my TTF list as a bit of a dark horse as I think a lot of people will take the view he is all hype, which is right to agree, but not if you look closely enough. He has a big ticket to improve. |

I can see him improving, I believe King last yr intimated that he had never really put the gun to his head because he wanted a horse for the future (possibly in the Weekender). They may also take teh view that the Champion will cut up and a changing of the guard is due. I think both of those are possibly correct, so I agree there may be value in it. I think the Supreme was a poor race, hardly a cig paper between them, but of the main protagonists I like him maybe most (especially when over a fence).

If you look at the Supreme, he hardly jumped a hurdle fluently. Had he done better in that respect, he may well have won, although there were other "what if's" in that race as well. The trainer said all along he wasnt sure whether he was quite ready for the Festival and, despite that, he ran a cracker. Yes, heaps of improvement and a lot worse odds on offer for the Champion. I've nibbled at around 90/1 and look forward to seeing what route is taken.
I feel sure that Alan King will have a Champion prospect this season and this one, Grumeti and Balder Succes are all worth keeping in mind. |
