That's the point. The irish chasers are hard to Split. Rubi is the likely progressive one on the soft ground (after running so well in the Ryan Air on faster ground), but Kauto Stone won THE BIG Grade 1 in France. The top French form is better than English/Irish and Kauto jumped like a stag round Down Patrick.
Plus Nicholls strike rate in Ireland is awesome. |

Quito declared for Sandown Friday over 2 and half, surely too short but allegedly want to get run into him before xmas? Durkan Chase looks harder also same distance,cant see him winning over that trip?

That race friday is 3m and also Bostons Angel is entered,interesting race if they come over.

However Quito De La Roque is unlikely to run in the 3m110y, £18,000 guaranteed contest. His trainer Colm Murphy said on Saturday: "It's probably more unlikely than likely at this stage [that he'll travel] but I won't make any final decision until the middle of the week.
"We put him in those races to keep our options open as ideally I'd like to geta run into him before the Lexus at Christmas. If we didn't get a run into him before Leopardstown it wouldn't be the end of the world but at least we have a few options available to us." |

Sorry was thinking 2 and half for Durkan, surely too short for Quito?

There will still be some decent prize money for placing in the John Durkan.
Plus it will get some speed into his legs in readiness for the Lexus. |

Quito De La Roque is likely to stay nearer home for his next race, with the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on December 11 the probable target.

One could argue that Sizing Europe gave his form a massive boost today (unless you think SE blew up after about 2 1/2 m at Down Royal, which I don't).

been deadly honest i tink dis is ad will be placed this year at least and then win th GC next year take out long run and whats there to beat him he beat joncol and sizing europe at his ease last time out and their no donkeys their both class horses. imho i believe his trainer cant not go to cheltenham he couldnt possibly keep this horse from the race that will make him a great. im goin to keep backin him as soon as the money situation improves after christmas each way nd i cant really see me lose my bet this is a class horse and the word over here is dat theirs no irish horse could run him even close on his day and if the ground was o come up soft id lump on big this fella wouldnt be beaten then imho

His Down Royal win was definitely good form, but surprised you don't think Sizing blew up, strontium.
He was paddling close home and Quito simply saw out the trip, to my eyes anyway. I have said in numerous threads across the forum that I think the Gold Cup is a weak one this time (at least in depth) and for that reason I would not be too opinionated in this case. That said, Quito is definitely in my head as a reason that makes this a weak race in terms of depth because I think he looks shy of Cold Cup class in raw class and in speed. Unless it's a bog, which is very unlikely, I don't think he will be fast enough to lay up with them and they don't come back to you in the blue riband like two-milers do in Ireland. |

I think we'll know a lot more after the Lexus about where we are with QDLR. If he can give Denman a race then I think we have a real Gold Cup contender, as he should still be improving. Personally he's a horse I like and for me the pick of last seasons novices (all be it they look a pretty poor bunch in general at the moment).

tom - I didn't say that. I mean I don't think SE blew up after only 2 1/2 miles - it was more like 2 m 6f/7f. So QDLR was not racing against bottomed horses for half a mile, which franks his form to a degree.
RNL - The trouble with that is it assumes Denman isn't regressing and he doesn't really race enough nowadays to be sure. [OT - Actually, that's an issue more generally since the handicap marks of all the top British chasers seem to be based directly or indirectly on the assumption that Denman always gives his running. His Hennesey runs were a gift to Phil Smith, but who knows if if ran to the same marks in the Gold Cups and other races?]. I haven't given up on Jessies Dream yet, but he's getting a terrible preparation for the Gold Cup imo. |

Strontium - I agree it's hard to say for sure whether Denman is regressing. I made the mistake of thinking he'd regressed before his Hennessy run last year, and I think he proved there and in the GC that he was still capable of top level performances. I'm happy to put a line through Aintree. After Kauto's come back I wouldn't be backing against a similar performance from Denman. That's why I do think we'll know what we've got in QDLR after the Lexus.... but I've been wrong before

Hughes issued an upbeat bulletin on Magnanimity, who was injured at the Cheltenham Festival in March when a close fourth to Bostons Angel in the RSA Chase.
The trainer said: “He’s a hell of a horse. He fractured a joint at Cheltenham which needed four screws, and he had four months’ box rest. “But he’s come back a more professional horse, and the plan is to start him off in the Lexus. He could be a Gold Cup horse.” |

Not sure what to make of that. On the face of it, both Rubi Light & QDLR were disappointing. Both probably would have preferred softer but then again up til now so would the winner. What do people make of the winners performance - it seemed impressive but it could just as likely be that QDLR & Rubi Light aren't that good - which again up until now I thought they were

Immediate impression (will need to re-examine) is that Rubi maybe did not stay and QDLR needs 7 miles. QDLR is a likable horse but looks exceptionally slow.

I think that's right. A very disappointing result for racing imo, but I believe Synchronised has improved. I think he ran somewhere in the high 160s based on Noland and Roberto. However, I'd be astonished if he's good enough to win a Gold Cup.

QDLR and the rest of last years Novices just aren't that good. Synchronised winning a grade 1(well done to the horse)just outlines the limitations of the opposition. Rubi Light will be a major player for the Ryanair. The others really are handicappers albeit good ones.

Sync is quite lightly raced for a chaser though. He won the Welsh National off 150 quite easily and Giles Cross franked the form again yesterday.
Halcon Generladis won the Welsh Nat off a big weight and managed a 4th place on the Gold Cup. 14/1, NRNB for Sync seems fair enough to me. Not that I am backing. |

they must have gone a crawl because qdlr ran his race the wrong way round.....he travelled and got outpaced late on....where vice versa is usually the case....in that case, how the hell did synchronised win

Long Run and Kauto can sleep easy in their boxes for next few months i think, disappointing today appeared to go pretty slow early, Quito then outpaced at vital stage.

QDLR will love the Gold Cup trip for sure, he is gagging for it. So silly to give up hope actually and Colm Murphy seemed pretty content with his run.

Although I do feel Sync is being a little underestimated here tbh. The last time Jonjo won the Lexus was with Exotic Dancer who progressed through handicaps so he clearly knows a good one.

Ive been sticking up for Quito a fair bit,but that aint a gold cup run,nowhere near.How far is Noland behind in the Nicholls pecking order??and getting beat by a Welsh national handicapper?? Ok he may be underestimated,but even so,Gold Cup-Synchronised??
Quito might do better in a gold Cup,but he aint anywhere near the 2 favs.Aside from maybe Grand Crus it appears nothing is!! |

As I said above, I reckon Synchronised ran to 167+ today. I'd just be staggered if he's good enough to win a Gold Cup. They have to try that sort for ace though - they'll have shafted his handicap mark today.

QDLR was rated 169 before today. Hard to see why on whats been achieved. Yes beat Sizing Europe and the Nightingale, but only because they obviously didn't get home. Previously beat Western Charmer who got stuffed yesterday off 143 and beat Sarando at Aintree 1/4 length. sarando not competitive off 149. 169 don't make me laugh mid 150's at best IMO.
