I suppose we have to record the very sad loss of Starchitect on this thread. Breaking a leg on the flat is the worst way to lose a high class chaser. It brought back the memory of Martin Pipe losing 2 in that way on firm ground at the Festival back in the day.

Guitar Pete wins the Grade 3 Caspian Caviar Gold Cup Handicap Chase for Nicky Richards and Ryan Day, however the race is marred by a harrowing injury, after clear leader STARCHITECT tragically broke down approaching the second last with a horrific injury.
Heartbreaking and horrible to watch for all, especially the poor horse and all close connections – all in Pipe’s Yard, Scudamore and owners the Rooneys.
Racing can be so cruel at times. Thank fcuk I wasn’t looking.

Elliott: “There’s been no decision yet. He’s just back in light work. There’s a few things to be sorted out there yet.”

Death Duty, a Grade One winner over hurdles and fences, missed the second half of last season and has not yet returned to training.
“Death Duty is still not back in. He got a bit of a setback last year,” said Elliott. “We might have him for the second half of the season, but there’s no big panic with him.”

Willie Mullins reports Douvan to be lame. He suggested it could be a tiny ligament tear or a small stress fracture. He is hopeful it is not too serious and the chaser will make a full recovery

Good news CCM. If it was the big fences that wrecked his jumping, River Wylde is a bet next time on a different course as he still had a good chance when falling. Nicky needs to stiffen up his schooling fences before running any more at Haydock.

That is a bit steep CCM. River Wylde has been an unlucky horse to win so little for such a high rating. £57k may seem quite a lot but that is in 3 seasons and he is now on 150.

BLEU ET ROUGE.....A great afternoon for JP McManus tinged with sadness with the news that Bleu Et Rouge suffered a fatal fall in Fighting Fifth at Newcastle! (Buveur D'air won).

JOSSES HILL - died after racing in Sandown.

WICKLOW BRAVE - the 10yo was on the verge of recording an 18th career victory, when he took a fatal fall at the last with the race at his mercy, in the American Grand National at Far Hills on Saturday. A winner of 17 of his 59 races, he won the Irish St Leger under Frankie Dettori in 2016, the 2015 County Hurdle and the 2017 Punchestown Champion Hurdle in a remarkable career.

Two-time Grand National hero Tiger Roll has suffered a setback and will have a small chip taken out of a joint on Friday. Eddie O’Leary said: ‘’It will rule him out of Christmas, but we hope to make the Boyne Hurdle at Navan. If not, it will be straight to Cheltenham.’’
