As mentioned on another thread Weapons Amnesty if maintaining his ability is the one to be with. I was lucky enough to pinch some 33/1 with SJ straight after last years race as I couldnt believe the price given the hammering it gave Long Run in RSA.
Burtons Port has also finished in front of it everytime its faced Long Run I believe?
I agree - both good shots if they come back well from their injuries. Nothing behind Long Run this year looks like it can beat him in 2012 if he stands up.

last years gold cup was very poor by its own generally high standards. i like michel le bon but only worry is that hes not thought of as a natural and whether or not hes as good as he was before his injury!

agreed, which is why I am apprehensive about writing him/them off - there wasnt much between the top novices last year. I will be following the form of those horses closely because if they are up to standard then they represent great value.

yeh, well novices normally improve, but the price reflects the face that their is doubt whether he will be good enough.I have had some at current prices but would certainly be wary of going too mad!!

Please don't laugh at me, but one I fancy at a huge price is Rubi Light.
I was keen on him in the Ryanair last year at 40/1, and he didn't get a mention before the race and surprisingly he has barely had a mention since even though he ran an absolute blinder.
He travelled extremely well and I think it would have been a photo between him and Albertas if he hadn't nearly unseated three out. Looking at his previous runs, it wouldn't scream Gold Cup because it is pretty dodgy at best but his last two runs showed massive improvement.
Robbie Hennesey has said that he's going to be upped in trip next year and he will only be a 7 year old. He's not a fashionable horse from a smallish stable but is one I'm going to keep a close eye on.
May your laughing commence......[;)]

I was also very taken by Rubi Light's Ryanair run. Plenty of improvement left in him I reckon. Weapons Amnesty will have a big chance if he returns to his level before injury struck and pleased I took some of Billies' 25s post-Cheltenham.
I also think Time For Rupert shouldn't be written off too hastily. Given the fact he burst a blood vessel in the RSA, his 3m novice form was top notch prior to Chelters in beating Quinz (RP Chase winner), Chicago Grey (NH Chase winner), Hell's Bay (Dipper Chase winner) and Divers (Centenary winner) all very cosily in the lead up to Cheltenham. Think he could be a serious contender for the Hennessey off a mark of 158.
Having backed him last year, Long Run is too short at the current prices and I will look to take him on and lay him next March. I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat at Haydock, win at Kempton and then be beat at Cheltenham, impressive as he was last year.
