never really rated poquelin, but maybe he gets the vote by default? he stopped jvole last year when she looked like making a big move. perhaps shes the one.
gauvin, kalahari king, can't have them really, particularly the ferdy murphy horse. somersby if he does reappear will appreciate the less hectic gallop, but he's starting to look like a nearly horse.
anyway to sum up, anyone got any ideas? help! [smiley:crazy]
yeah starting to come around to the idea that poquelin wins by default. although its a horse that i've never really rated so don't say it with much confidence. rubi light seems interesting though as an outsider due to having one of the few progressive profiles in the field.
or perhaps a fresh voy por? [:p]

Roberto Goldback for me. Might not have the class of some of these but has every right to line up with some of the horses it finished in front of, I'm taking the 25/1 now looking at how this race might cut up further.

Had a look before and i am going to side with Gauvain at 12/1 in the ryanair, ran a career best over the trip last time out going toe to toe with Riverside Theater until getting a little outclassed over the last 2 fences, but was well clear of the 3rd and looks very solid form, loves cheltenham and is a previous winner, with ifs buts and doubts about most of the runners he looks value, think the favorite is a bit soft in a finish and the big danger is Albertas who will have everything in his favour for the first time this year

If, and it's a big if, that Hey Big Spender gets his jumping together, then he could run a big race at a stupid price. Tanking along last year at the festival until he hit the deck, his handicap win at Warwick looks good form. Needs to be kept interested up with the pace as seems to sulk if held up. Certainly not a 33-1 shot in what looks a lousy renewal.

Not had a strong opinion on this race since Zaarito was ruled out a while back
Only a small play for me. Never taken to Poquelin and the others have niggling doubts around them, so i'm going with what I believe the value is
gl whatever you do

Agree with most of the analysis Mythical. As a grade One this is weaker than last night's Carling. Almost going to say Poquelin by default too because Alberta's looks past best, J'y Vole done nothing since last year, ditto Kalahari King.
Voypor...well we all love Voypor but couldn't win it when he was in his prime never mind after all he has been through. Still a 10 year-old mind (shouldn't he be about 13?)
Poquelin will probably win it but can anybody really derive festival joy by backing a Stewart/Nicholls/Walsh shot in the Ryanair? No. Rubi Light each way @25s for me.

yeah i'm with you on this one mcgoldrick. never liked poquelin you always feel he's vulnreable to a horse with a touch of brilliance (which admittedly this race is sadly lacking) so my earlier idea of backing it by default seems rather stupid.
last years renewal was so ordinary that i'm leaning towards something that didn't run in that race, which narrows it down to the likes of rubi light

I'm on Poquelin at 7/2 and think he is a solid favourite. KK has been talked into the price he is and AR has been horrendous this year. I know AR comes good around now and on this ground but last year he came good from running OK all season, this year he has been shocking all season and so has Jonjo.
Poquelin is 8 now and entitled to improve a little on last year, it looks as if he has given that he produced the best form of his career last time out over course and distance. I really don't get the J'Y Vole was unlucky last year theory, every time I watch it I think they are both affected as badly and when they kick for home up the hill Poquelin pulls away.
The only live danger I can see is Gauvain who I may back as a saver and maybe in a forcast. I love AR but I would want to see him run to within a stone of what he is/was capable of before backing him at what is a short enough price based on what he has done all year.

I agree totally with TheFormMans post about Gauvain and just to add the connections ran For Non Stop today who ran a blinder until tipping up at the last.Would appear the stables in form and im confident of a big run.

It's obviously not been the plan to have Aleberta's run so badly all season just to land a touch here. He's had genuine problems hurting his back in a fall and although he wasn't hard done by at Kempton it's a arce he could have done without.
No secret that it's been an uphill struggle to get him here but as good as Jonjo is at getting them spot I reckon it's too much to expect. I'd be more inclined to watch and back him in running because I've a feeling Jonjo is running him not expecting him to win but prep him up for Aintree and this race may have come a tad too soon for him.
Either way Poquelin looks to have turned the corner and put his somewhat checkered past behind him. Was very impressed he won last time and wouldn't look past him today. Kalahara King has a touch of class, Ferdy won't hear of him being beat but that's par for the course with this horse and the Festival so I'm sticking with PN's

Rubi Light is an interesting runner, doesn't have much to find to get into the mix. There's a chance the ground might not suit, but @ 25/1 I'll take a wee risk. He's by the same sire as Sprinter Sacre and he handled the ground ok.

Backed Gauvain last night as stated earlier and have also lumped on Albertas this morning having had another look, decided that there is no reason at all why those behind him should finish in front of him today, happy enough with his first run of the season behind Poq and Monets as he has always run poorly first time out the last couple of seasons, was in the process of running a good race next time out behind Master Minded before a heavy fall, was very sore after that and connections have stated that Dougie Costello felt he was never right during his next run and he was pulled up in the King George as he was still feeling the effects of that fall as tests proved afterwards, having said that he gets beat 100 lenghts by kauto in the KG anyway,so would not be a great worry either way, took the team a while to get him back to full fitness where he is now,is a 3 time cheltenham winner, twice at the festival, clearly comes to himself at this time of year and loves the good ground, taking all into account,he is ready to run a huge race, probably would not have made this bet but for Sizing Europe winning yesterday, but am tired of ignoring returning festival winners due to having an in and out season and prep for the festival

Think Poquelin is there to be taken on, like J'Y vole based on races been in, jockey booking. The only concern is if he kicks on between the last two or has enough of a run in after the last. Rubi Light is very good value at the price

If anyone fancies Roberto Goldback you've got to have a look at Rubi Light.
The big question is the ground, but he beat Roberto Golback 10 lengths last time out, and Roberto Goldback has also beaten Jy Vole this year. I've seen worse 25/1 shots

I backed AR P at 9/1, as my take was I was betting on the stable getting him back after nasty fall and I was willng to gamble on that.Even at 13/2 I think he is value against what he is up against.
