There's no money about to lay anything really, think it's that the dec's are tomorrow. He shortened today in the bookies.

3 quid at 9s then back down to 13/2...nothing to worry about. Just someone trying to get a bigger price.
Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast.................... • March 9, 2011 6:45 PM GMT
He only got backed in the first place because of the 'hype' about his improvement and well being.

Combine the factors of people laying him because of the fast ground we will be getting, Kalahari King being put up by WisePrice and Somersby being announced as a possible for the race and that's enough for him to drift at least two points.
Report CVByrne • March 9, 2011 6:48 PM GMT
I think he's a great bet, 3 defeats in the past year

He was 2nd to Golden silver over 2m in a grade 1
He flopped in the ryanair last year because they ran him 2 1/2 week before the race and the long season caught up with him
He didn't stay the 3 miles of the Punchestown Gold Cup

Other than that all 1's

I can't understand why people overcomplicate things. The horse doesn't race to it's best on anything other than a bog. We won't be geting sloppy ground at the festival. Visa Vie he won't win and will do exremely well to place.

I grant that the ground will probably be faster than they have run on all year but Cheltenham don't allow firm / good to firm plus they'll be able to water the new course up to thursday - more likely to be dead

I was there when make a stand won the champion hurdle now that was fast ground
Report Joist • March 9, 2011 10:24 PM GMT
Ffs everyone knows better that Eddie O'Grady it seems, who has stated numerous times that this horse is better on better ground.
Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast.................... • March 9, 2011 10:33 PM GMT
As I already said people over just complicating a very simple issue. Just trust your eyes ffs!
Report CVByrne • March 9, 2011 10:44 PM GMT
If he's good enough to beat fiveforthree in a G1 Novice hurdle on Good ground then I think he handles it [;)]

Typical nonsense from people, Irish horse runs in Ireland where ground is always soft = horse only acts on soft.

Weapons Amnesty and Forpadydeplasterer, two horses who need good ground but ran with credit on soft before winning at Cheltenham.

When will people learn, the one thing trainers don't lie about is the ground their horses like.
Report yort • March 9, 2011 10:50 PM GMT
Based on their clash in December and her run in the race last year I really cant see how Jyvole wont be very away from TC at the end yet is twice the price??.......
Report CVByrne • March 9, 2011 11:08 PM GMT
Mullins was very down beat on here saying she's been disappointing this season. Otherwise I'd be a backer.
Report yort • March 9, 2011 11:13 PM GMT
Agree she's had a mixed season but could possibly have won in Decwember, the lexus trip was too far and gorund was like a glue pot in Thurles so would be willing to give her a chance at the price, while still having the nagging doubt that she may be gone over the top
Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast.................... • March 9, 2011 11:13 PM GMT
All 6 of Tranquil Sea's chase wins have been on soft and heavy. TS has proved he cannot win a top chasing event on decent ground. HTH

"I don’t think the conditions helped him today although maybe they didn’t inconvenience him as much as some of the others. I think he will be a better horse on better ground.”
s
"I don't think he needs soft ground. I don't think the ground matters a lot to him but it might matter more to ome of the other horses in the race," he added.

As CV suggests, just because they act on heavy doesn't mean they NEED it heavy. No doubt you'll still think you know more than O'Grady though!
Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast.................... • March 9, 2011 11:29 PM GMT
Well how about this CV and I promise I won't reply to it because i'm that confident that I am right...What has changed since last years Ryanair to make you believe this horse will handle the good ground at Cheltenham any better than it did last time other than quotes from the trainer? Forget that the horse heads to Cheltenham off of the back of good form because that happened last year too. What's changed to make you believe he will handle the ground this time?
Report Joist • March 9, 2011 11:33 PM GMT
The fact that it is well documented that Tranquil Sea performs much better having had a long break. Last year, he hadn't, this year, he has been kept fresh.
Report Joist • March 9, 2011 11:37 PM GMT
Couldn't resist some of the 10 of offer. I'll wake up to 'Tranquil Sea Misses Festival' on the RP site (NAP)
Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast.................... • March 9, 2011 11:38 PM GMT
LOL Joist!

So your telling me that the trainer of a 3rd season chaser knows what ground his horse acts best on, but doesn't know how long a break it needs before a race Laugh

No wonder it's so easy to make money on here!
Report Joist • March 9, 2011 11:41 PM GMT
I'd say something like the ideal time between a race is much more about trial and error to find out than a simple case of which ground a horse favours.

Anyway, it's pretty clear you're just another wind up merchant idiot so that'll do. Throw me in the keepnet, enjoy your imaginary millions that you've won in the 1 day you've been registered!

Report CVByrne • March 10, 2011 12:02 AM GMT
Also Chelt enthusiast. Tranquil sea raced 2 1/2 weeks before he ran in the Ryanair and that race was his 5th of the season. He was over the top. That is why they have only had 2 runs this year and go there with a fresh horse. All horses should be forgiven one bad run, that's his only one is the past 2 seasons.
Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast.................... • March 10, 2011 12:08 AM GMT
Can we forgive the trainer though who knows he brings his best form onto good ground, but didn't realise Tranquil Sea wouldn't race well having run 2 1/2 weeks before Chelt?

Laugh

Some people on here are unforgivably dumb!
Report Ballydoyle • March 10, 2011 12:10 AM GMT
He has had 3 festival runs – 8th, 6th and 9th, all within 5 weeks of a previous run.

He won the Paddy Power chase here last season, and the grade 1 John Durkan chase at Fairyhouse this season. Both wins were on soft ground, both came within 5 weeks of a prior run. Freshness does not look essential – soft ground does.

But what would I know....
Report CVByrne • March 10, 2011 12:12 AM GMT
Yes it is you who is unforgivably dumb.

Trainers learn about there horses all the time. Paul Nicholls only realised Kauto was best Fresh in late 2008. Also there are prizes to be won outside of Cheltenham, owners might want their horse to run.

Look it's clear you signed up a few days ago so are probably one to add to the forum blocker as it's clear you have absolutely zero useful insight.

From reading your posts CV Byrne, as much as I admire your logic in presenting your case, you do come across as a bit of a smug character, no offence intended.

Take me as you want, you have no idea who I am, you have no idea of what I have backed/not backed, won/lost. To acuse someone as "unforgivably dumb" when it is you who does not know how to use "there" and "their" (as in "there horse") when appropriate would make me wonder who the dumb one is.....

It's the same old faces on here day after day...you stick to your guns. Incidentally, it would be a major surprise to me if Tranquil Sea won a Ryanair on good ground, beating Kalahari King, Poquelin and Somersby (if he turns up) but what do I know....

Is it me or are the threads getting more nasty.
Is festival fever to blame??

As for Tranquil Sea,imo he needs the ground soft to beat the horses that will line up next week.Albertas,Poquelin and KK all like good ground and TS cannot beat those unless the ground goes against them.
Report CVByrne • March 10, 2011 8:20 AM GMT
That's what happens with an unmoderated forum. This is the only forum I can think of that is unmoderated and this is the result. I probably need to just block more people really.

But I think you're post shows what people should say, "in my opinion he needs soft". Not speaking in certainties.
Report hemsby • March 10, 2011 9:24 AM GMT
Just to throw another opinion into the mix.

TS has had 13 chase starts.

His form figures for the months of Oct/Nov/Dec read 1511211

His form figures for Feb/Mar/Apr/May read 562196

His February victory was at odds of 4/6.
Report Joist • March 10, 2011 2:19 PM GMT
So do we have any news regarding the drift?
Report Fistfulofdollars • March 10, 2011 2:30 PM GMT
I watched Cattermole on ATR covering the Irish angle at lunchtime and there was no mention - other than him saying with the ground drying M Cattermole thought TS would be a doubt for the ryannair. This of course waouldnot square with the trainer's view (notwithstanding the form history) that he'd be better on good ground. I suspect unless we hear something it is speculation (including the panellists at the towcester preview night - see mayweather's thread) that he maybe taken out because of faster ground expectations.
Report eskimo • March 10, 2011 5:05 PM GMT

Report Cheltenham_Enthusiast..................... • March 10, 2011 6:49 PM GMT
CV the only thing that needs moderating is your attitude. I hate having to argue the toss with someone about something that is patently clear to see. Worse than that, when that person can't stand being wrong they start with the 'holier than thou' b0ll0x.

Just be adult about it and accept that you were wrong.
