Doesn't seem to have a clue which races are best for his horses?

Surely the owners must think twice before going to this hapless trainer to spend their hard earned. Fk me this guy comes across as totally clueless.

HE's a great trainer no doubt, but his ability to keep the punter guessing is second to none

Nah I think he just doesnt have a clue. He comes across that way also to back that up.

Lets be honest he has totally fked up the natural talent of Mikael D'Haguenet running him with just a 2 week gap after so long. Was he going on holiday or sometihng fkin useless.

Sorry it isnt shrewdness it is cluelessness.

Training a classy Montjeu to win soft ground half paced early (flat) races against mediocre horses who need further does not constitute the phrase genius to me ... hapless totally hapless.

If D Pipe had his talent on his books over here he would be challenging Nicholls and Henderson for the title. This guy doesnt even know where his horses are going a week before the biggest meeting of the year ... ha ha.

Eric's seethingShocked

I expect Mullins knows exactly where his horses are running weeks in advance but he dosen't make that public so the owners / staff can hoover up the prices or lay non runners.

Might not be in our interests but the why should he give a **** about that - just wait until declaratyions are out.

Arbers such as yourself dont count you are just looking to take a riskless cut, no opinion or skill involved. Good luck with your biggest bet of the year on Good/Soft ground at the Festival. Surely you are getting knocked back on Claisse's cert by now?

Mullins doesnt seem to have a clue end of. The phrase clueless and shrewdness can have one hiding the other in racing.

The ONLY significant win of his career was when AP MCCoy was allegedly told to ride Best Mate to just get the trip against Florida Pearl and didnt get up. All the talent he has had over the year D Pipe would have gone to town with these horses imo of course.

Ruby Walsh explained exactly why Mullins does not commit his horses early. Mullins will look at the opposition that line up and place his horses in the races where they have the best chance of winning. With Quel Esprit he had planned to go for the easier 4 mile race after his fall lto but then impressed in the gallop so was switched back to his original target the RSA Chase.

Soft races in Ireland dont count, Solwhit how many Grade 1's, Beef Or Salmon how many Grade 1's before coming across the sea and being royally shafted?

D Pipe would have a field day with the talent that has passed through this trainers hands. Clueless not knowing what is best for your horses a week before the major exams, totally clueless.

Eric, for someone who claims not to have backed any Mullins horses at Cheltenha, you do sound rather angry.

im pretty sure your on MDH for the Arkle then switched to the RSA.

People working in a profession following racing wont believe how a lack of knowledge in your subject you are closely associated with each day at the major delivery point can be so laughable when a supposedly leading proponent of the subject. Just as well racing isnt in the real world half these lot would be out on their @rses.

Mullins made a mistake running MDH in a grade 1 on debut. He did the same with Cousin Vinny.

But that's about it. He is a top trainer.

Solwhit won the Aintree hurdle in fairness though that was 2mile4, Mullins knows exactly what he is doing and what he has, did you not see Kempes being backed off the boards in the weeks before the Hennessey?
By:

When: 05 Mar 11 17:43
Are you saying he purposefully misleads punters with running plans?

Surely not, wouldn't that be bringing the sport into disrepute and turning the public away from it in droves, losing their money without a run for example, to more transparent sports and pass-times for short term selfish reasons without the future of the sport in mind?

Find that hard to believe if so.

Maybe 'Racing For Change' would be interested in your thoughts there. It doesnt sound too clever in this day and age.
By:

When: 05 Mar 11 17:48
What he does would constitute an ommission Eric. He doesn't take positive action to mislead, he just leaves his options open and doesn't commit to targets in order to firstly assess the strength of the opposition and secondly to allow the staff and connections to get the best prices. Nothing in the rules against that.
By:
eric_morris
When: 05 Mar 11 17:51
Certainly not clever in terms of intelligence anyway maybe in terms of 'being clever'.

Would think he just doesn't know which horse is going where just a week before their most important races. That's how it comes across to me anyway.

What on earth are you rambling on about!? A trainer's obligation is to get the best possible outcome for the owner and any other paying connections. There is no onus on any trainer to service the gambling public with any inside info; including planned entries ahead of declaration day.

Get a grip.

I'd agree nothing too clever about that, but he isn't trying to hrlp us I suppose. He is the darling of the Irish betting public nonetheless and I reckon himto be a great trainer. Running Mikhael 2 weeks after his comeback was a mistake though, but he'd admit that.

neill d ... he announced Quel Esprit was going NH Chase this week lots of money for him (not mine) then I hear he just said he goes RSA and noticed no money to back on here but a lot looking to lay off ... what are punters to make of this? Should he just say he doesnt know wouldnt that be better?
By:

Ah that clears that up then. Eric backed Quel Esprit in the NH Chase.
