Excellent observation from Walsh there. Where is the pace?
If there is no Overturn making it a test it will be won for speed. The disadvantage of not running before at the stiff Cheltenham track will not matter if allowed to travel around within himself not testing his stamina.
all i know is i expect HF to be last off the bridle and to travel like a dream, i reckon there are excellent trading ops on this fella, will look like a winning at some stage!

hes a speed horse, i see him travelling v strongly off a strong pace, he stays really well over 2 and a half in heavy and the better ground wont bother him imo! i see what ur sayin, i havent thought much about the pace as i just assumed overturn would be making it as a) it would suit him and b) his stablemate would want it that way! i dont think PC will win anyway but he certainly wont without a strong pace so surely OT will run!

Could the unthinkable happen and Hurricane get an Irish style race at Cheltenham after all the time people have said he wont be suited to the ground/pace there?

not impossible! it would certainly suit the speed, him , menorah and not the other 2 at the head!i suppose u could wait and play the race i-r if u liked HF, as if he goes to the front rearly his price wont shorten too much considering the horse in behind and the race itself! something to consider!

if i were owner i would want overturn in the race, think PC chances would increase for his presence. If Hf can get past PC on the bridle i would be surprised, and if he does hes a darn good one.

Which horse need a strong pace? Which horse won the race last year?
Do you think for one minute Nicky Henderson will allow this to be run at crawl?
He said he was unsure where Zaynar will run
I wonder why?

The race will be run at a Championship pace and the best horse on the day will win - just like every other Champion Hurdle I can rememeber in the last 20 years

Ruby is at the kidding anyway. Hurricane Fly isn't the easiest horse in the world to settle and Ruby will have a much better chance of getting him to relax off a strong pace. I think he wins no matter how fast they go and quite frankly Overturn is no where near fast enough to get him or Binocular off the bridle.
McCain doesn't need Overturn he only needs something to make it a decent pace as his best chance of success would be to take it up before the 3rd last and try and take the sting out of the big 2. I doubt he has the toe or will want to go head to head from the last with Hurricane Fly or Binocular.

Agree it makes sense for Henderson to run Zaynar to make it up front he would hav e an outside chance also depending on ground.
They need to make it a test to get Hurricane Fly using up energy before the hill.

It's hardly jocking ruby off. Townend been up last 4 times. Ruby said last night no jockey arrangements had been made for the Mullins horses, but nicholls seemed to think ruby would be available for peddlers cross when it looked like maguire would miss out, so I wouldn't be surprised if townend rode. Re golden silver ruby will be on masterminded so no question townend will be up on GS

Rondetto, a lot of very good points there about the pace angle there, imo. I agree with you about Overturn. Even if Overturn runs and takes it up from the front from the off, I am not sure he is good enough to make the early and mid race pace any faster than Celestial Halo was able to in the last renewal An on form Binocular, and possibly also HF, have the class to live with (and possibly thrive off) that kind of pace.
Even without Overturn in the race, the early pace is likely to be brisk enough without necessarily being breakneck. If they went a dawdle, which is highly unlikely even for a smallish field in the CH, that could become a problem for any horses that don't settle well or for the more classy horses that (so the theory goes) need a strong tempo to get into their best rhythm.
The key factor with a horse like PC from a pace angle, I would say, is that the jockey needs to ensure that the final quarter of the race is turned into a long, driving finish so as to minimise the extent to which PC is vulnerable to being beaten by a burst of speed over a short distance. Essentially, imo, that was how he was able to win the FF - after a moderate early pace, the jockey kicked for home early down the long finishing straight at Newbury and kept finding a bit more from the front when challenged.
If they went very fast in the early and mid race sections, that could actually damage PC's chances in the sense that in order to sustain a long, driving finish ideally the horse will have got something of a mid-race breather and filled up enough to have a decent chance of sustaining a long drive to the line. Too much pace too early and you could find a hold up type sitting well off the front end, coming through to scythe them down at the end.

If there is a horse in the race who is an experienced (or 'natural') front runner, that generally makes it a bit easier for the jockeys on the horses behind to pick and hold the positions they want in the early and mid race sections. Without a dedicated front runner, you can get a bit more skirmishing and fiddling around within the pack.
If you are aiming to settle a horse in forward midfield, for example, and the horses at the front aren't particularly well settled or easy in leading them round, you can soon find yourself seeing a bit more of the front end than ideally you wanted to and the pace might not be quite as even as it would be under other circumstances. It can become a bit more of a muddling race in that sense.

Wrong guys: Townsend is currently 1st choice but should Ruby prove he has fully recovered and riding as well as ever then he will be asked to step downand you can take that to the bank.

Ruby even said Quevega is his best ride on Tueday, add to that the way he talked about Fly he wasn't riding him. I'd love him to win, for example. But when talking about horses he's sure to ride he said we'll. Also when someone asked him if he was riding Fly he said Mullins hasn't told him of riding arrangements. Townend at the Naas Preview said he hopes to keep the ride. While nicholls said Ruby might ride Peddlers if maguire was banned,
All this stacks up to Townend keeping the ride for this race.

Totally agree with AKA's asessment of how this race should be run in order to suit PC. Having backed the horse I hope McCain/Maguire have read it as well.

The more you read discussions like this the more you know who to believe in the future.Dacalec is in the know and Townend will ride HF and Form Man told by Ruby himself that he will ride HF.Which one thinks he is in the know but clearly isnt?

Any chance khyber kim makes it? If they steel a few lengths at the start while everyones wondering who makes the pace he could become tough to get past. Long as hes mature enough now to not get lit up in front.

THE FORM MAN u haven't a clue, why would jockey be made public at 5 day stage and leave topic open to ridicule by the media if said jockey got injured b4 tuesday ie:they didn't want ye and your the best or ye rode it all year when your man was injured but didn't want ye 2day.oh by the way RUBY is not very sociable so was hardly speaking to you and if ye knew him ye wouldn't be a great confidant
