all i know is i expect HF to be last off the bridle and to travel like a dream, i reckon there are excellent trading ops on this fella, will look like a winning at some stage!
By:
A strong pace will see him off the bridle imo but where is it coming from?
By:
hes a speed horse, i see him travelling v strongly off a strong pace, he stays really well over 2 and a half in heavy and the better ground wont bother him imo! i see what ur sayin, i havent thought much about the pace as i just assumed overturn would be making it as a) it would suit him and b) his stablemate would want it that way! i dont think PC will win anyway but he certainly wont without a strong pace so surely OT will run!
By:
Could the unthinkable happen and Hurricane get an Irish style race at Cheltenham after all the time people have said he wont be suited to the ground/pace there?
By:
..and hill.
By:
not impossible! it would certainly suit the speed, him , menorah and not the other 2 at the head!i suppose u could wait and play the race i-r if u liked HF, as if he goes to the front rearly his price wont shorten too much considering the horse in behind and the race itself! something to consider!

Race may not have a Zaynar pushing them on this season Binocular could struggle unless he comes off a strong pace imo.

Ruby totally under-estimating Long Run again.
Surelt McCain is going to run Overturn in the Champion Hurdle, Ruby spot on about that. |
By:
Any more pace in the race if Overturn doesnt show up?
By:
if i were owner i would want overturn in the race, think PC chances would increase for his presence.
If Hf can get past PC on the bridle i would be surprised, and if he does hes a darn good one. |
By:
Which horse need a strong pace? Which horse won the race last year?
Do you think for one minute Nicky Henderson will allow this to be run at crawl? He said he was unsure where Zaynar will run I wonder why? |
By:
The race will be run at a Championship pace and the best horse on the day will win - just like every other Champion Hurdle I can rememeber in the last 20 years

Ruby is at the kidding anyway. Hurricane Fly isn't the easiest horse in the world to settle and Ruby will have a much better chance of getting him to relax off a strong pace. I think he wins no matter how fast they go and quite frankly Overturn is no where near fast enough to get him or Binocular off the bridle.
McCain doesn't need Overturn he only needs something to make it a decent pace as his best chance of success would be to take it up before the 3rd last and try and take the sting out of the big 2. I doubt he has the toe or will want to go head to head from the last with Hurricane Fly or Binocular. |
By:
Agree it makes sense for Henderson to run Zaynar to make it up front he would hav e an outside chance also depending on ground.
They need to make it a test to get Hurricane Fly using up energy before the hill. |
By:
Also Binocular needs a testing 2 miles he is not so speedy as Hurricane Fly but will take him off a strong pace imo.
By:
One things for sure if AP hit's the front, has a look behind and sees Ruby in his slipstream he'll need a change of trousers after the race
By:
what did ruby say about long run??who was his fancy for the gold cup, cheers

first off lads (1) RUBY WONT RIDE TOWNSEND WILL (2) DONALAD MACAIN DECLARE OVERTURN FOR THE COUNTY HURDLE YESTERDAY..
By:
Madness from McCain, really can't understand his thinking behind this one
By:
ya agree bluebird..overturn isint well handicapped either..ive been told from good source that townend rides both hurricane and golden silver at festival..
By:
Someone is yanking your chain mate.
Jock Ruby off? in the words of Buddy Holly...That'll be the day |
By:
It's hardly jocking ruby off. Townend been up last 4 times.
Ruby said last night no jockey arrangements had been made for the Mullins horses, but nicholls seemed to think ruby would be available for peddlers cross when it looked like maguire would miss out, so I wouldn't be surprised if townend rode. Re golden silver ruby will be on masterminded so no question townend will be up on GS |

I doubt he has the toe or will want to go head to head from the last with Hurricane Fly or Binocular. Rondetto, a lot of very good points there about the pace angle there, imo. I agree with you about Overturn. Even if Overturn runs and takes it up from the front from the off, I am not sure he is good enough to make the early and mid race pace any faster than Celestial Halo was able to in the last renewal An on form Binocular, and possibly also HF, have the class to live with (and possibly thrive off) that kind of pace. Even without Overturn in the race, the early pace is likely to be brisk enough without necessarily being breakneck. If they went a dawdle, which is highly unlikely even for a smallish field in the CH, that could become a problem for any horses that don't settle well or for the more classy horses that (so the theory goes) need a strong tempo to get into their best rhythm. The key factor with a horse like PC from a pace angle, I would say, is that the jockey needs to ensure that the final quarter of the race is turned into a long, driving finish so as to minimise the extent to which PC is vulnerable to being beaten by a burst of speed over a short distance. Essentially, imo, that was how he was able to win the FF - after a moderate early pace, the jockey kicked for home early down the long finishing straight at Newbury and kept finding a bit more from the front when challenged. If they went very fast in the early and mid race sections, that could actually damage PC's chances in the sense that in order to sustain a long, driving finish ideally the horse will have got something of a mid-race breather and filled up enough to have a decent chance of sustaining a long drive to the line. Too much pace too early and you could find a hold up type sitting well off the front end, coming through to scythe them down at the end. |
By:
Good points aka too strong an early pace would suit the hold up horses
By:
If there is a horse in the race who is an experienced (or 'natural') front runner, that generally makes it a bit easier for the jockeys on the horses behind to pick and hold the positions they want in the early and mid race sections. Without a dedicated front runner, you can get a bit more skirmishing and fiddling around within the pack.
If you are aiming to settle a horse in forward midfield, for example, and the horses at the front aren't particularly well settled or easy in leading them round, you can soon find yourself seeing a bit more of the front end than ideally you wanted to and the pace might not be quite as even as it would be under other circumstances. It can become a bit more of a muddling race in that sense. |

WAS TOLD IN CONFIDENCE THAT PAUL TOWNEND RIDES HURRICANE FLY WONT SAY WHO TOLD ME OR WHERE BUT PERSON THAT SAID IT HAS TO BE THE TRUTH

@ decalec...ya i heard the exact same...word is also that ruby is supposed to be bulling !
By:
Maybe why Ruby said at the preview last night 'the CH will be a great race to watch'!
By:
yip
townsend rides the fly all the irish jocks know, its common knowledge over here the fly keeps on beating solwhit,he was nowhere in last years champion hurdle, solwhit simply doesnt go on fast ground over 2m |
By:
Wrong guys: Townsend is currently 1st choice but should Ruby prove he has fully recovered and riding as well as ever then he will be asked to step downand you can take that to the bank.

Ruby even said Quevega is his best ride on Tueday, add to that the way he talked about Fly he wasn't riding him. I'd love him to win, for example. But when talking about horses he's sure to ride he said we'll. Also when someone asked him if he was riding Fly he said Mullins hasn't told him of riding arrangements. Townend at the Naas Preview said he hopes to keep the ride. While nicholls said Ruby might ride Peddlers if maguire was banned,
All this stacks up to Townend keeping the ride for this race. |
By:
Totally agree with AKA's asessment of how this race should be run in order to suit PC. Having backed the horse I hope McCain/Maguire have read it as well.

By:
Problem is if Overturn runs like it did at Wincanton he'll be no use to anyone

The more you read discussions like this the more you know who to believe in the future.Dacalec is in the know and Townend will ride HF and Form Man told by Ruby himself that he will ride HF.Which one thinks he is in the know but clearly isnt?
