Everything ok with him - just noticed a little drift in RSA market. Probably down to few others running well and Irish racing on stand still...

Its hard now with the 2m 4f race being brought into the equation for Novices at Chelt to bet anything ante-post with any level of confidence for Chelt.

Take a look at his form he is way better at 2m4f he has speed. Think they will target that with him though they may try him at 3m first.

Yeah Howdi, that's it he was going to go for a winners race before the 3m G1 at leopardstown but the cold snap means he'll probably run there next. Then one more before the rsa. I'm sure mullins wants mikael in the arkle if every thing goes to plan with quel esprit.

With the two and a half mile race available, Time For Rupert could scare a lot of the serious players away from the RSA!

I dont think so Eric....his run over 3m at Chelt came 48 hrs after a fall and i'd be surprised if that was hs true running...looks for all the world a 3 miler otherwise imo |

He was entered to run at Limerick mid-december before it got abandoned.
Torphicen has boosted the form Twice since. |

If he runs in the 2m 4f race will be having a decent bet on him as he has spot on the right speed/stamina blend for the trip.

Seems my below post was pretty accurate, Mullins wants MD'H in Arkle and Quel Esprit in the RSA. I'm a huge huge fan of this horse. I'm on ap at 25/1 for RSA no e/w lark on the nose. I was just taken by the horse. Made to jump fences and proved that by not touching a twig on his debut. Hope he;s out early January.

he may WANT MD in the Arkle,but i would be amazed if he ran in the race after that today,definite stayer imo,all his best form suggests that.Mind you jumping like that he would be better off in the WHurdle!!

He's only in to get practice at jumping at speed. He did the exact same thing with Cooldine, 2m at Leop, 2m5f at Leop, 3m Chelts. He knows the horse stays, he's run over 3m twice before.

WPM chose the 2m 5f novice last year at Chelt with Quel Esprit and only ran him in the 3m novice a couple of days later as an afterthought given his early exit the first day . That may prove the best clue to what race he goes for this year - while Florida Pearl won the Sun Alliance , the recent experience of Cooldine since that race might possibly make WPM a bit jaundiced about that contest . Anyone know how the prizemoney for the new 2.5m novice chase compares to the Sun Alliance ?

Aiming for the 2m4f race is aiming low. He holds this horse in high regard and talked about the RSA back in his stable tour in 09, before the horse had even jumped a hurdle.

Dunno, he's been entered over 3m at Naas last Sat, 2m4f at Gowran Thu and 2m at Leop Sun.
So that should clear things up I'd say.  |

Talking about Mikael? Mullins hasn't a clue where to send him. He wanted to go for the Arkle, I'm confident of that, but the flop could have changed things. He also has Flat Out for the Arkle and if he impresses on Sunday he might be a factor in Mikael's race at the festival.
What I'm sure of is he bounced at Christmas, he still has buckets of talent and Mullins wouldn't have given him a Gold Cup entry lightly. |

well he has his moriarty entry, and if he wins there he will definitely be coming over for the festival
as a rule i try to stay clear of horses who miss such an important year as a young horse. but a horse of this calibre being 16/1 is tooooo tempting |

His price wont change until he runs again. His next outing might be the Moriarty, it's likely to be that. But Mullins might run him in an easier race.

fully agree with the potential he has he should'nt be 16's but its just too speculative to even say whether he will be there let alone what race he we will be in, trust me if i heard anything from source i would be clearing the 16's but for the moment ill wait

Jewson prizemoney is 90k whereas the Arkle and the RSA are 130k : even allowing for this differential would Time For Rupert not make the shorter race more attractive ? Maybe the ground will be a factor as well but going on past form WPM will probably make a decision very late in the day balancing all these factors not to mention where his stablemates are heading

Quel Esprit is his best novice staying chaser. He will be RSA bound, he doesn't fear Time for Rupert, why should he.

Whatever Mullins runs in the Moriarty at Leop in mid Feb is likely to be his RSA candidate a la Cooldine .Contrary to what is suggested earlier in this thread Mikael D'H did not get a Gold Cup entry

if memory serves an important fact /stat regarding the r.s a in the last 10 years all winners had at least 3 runs over fences so experiance is important and must be considered imo i may be wrong on this but i seem to remember this from last year

Err perhaps becasue while Quel Esprit was falling and getting tailed off last year, Time For Rupert only found Big Bucks a little too good in the World Hurdle and has since won twice impressively at the track without touching a twig  |

Yeh,it is hard to see why anyone would think QE could beat TFR,but then their dont seem to be much sense spoken when it comes to Mullins horses from the Irish!!Dont matter what they do,run badly,fall,whatever,their is always an excuse.Guess its cos they are all superstars,even if the form dont back it up!!!

TFR is just one horse. None of you would have given weapons amnesty a chance against long run or punchestowns last year. Learn lessons from the past.

Very childish comment too bud re Mullins.
Irish horses almost always represent better value then english for cheltenham because you don't rate the form over here. Fine by me when we have double figures about our horses in every race given we win our fair share at the festival. Take flat out and Finian's Rainbow after both had one win over fences to their name, both 5th in good novice hurdles at last years festival. One was 20/1 one 6/1 this time last week. That says it all. I'd happily only back ours if you gave me the ap price from today about our best sp's, on the day. |
