Everything ok with him - just noticed a little drift in RSA market. Probably down to few others running well and Irish racing on stand still...

Was on Get on this morning, said there was nothing wrong with QE and was gonna wait for the Moriarty.
Report CVByrne January 21, 2011 7:07 PM GMT
Anyone backing Quel Esprit for the Irish Arkle was a bit daft to be fair. He was outpaced over 2m4f before, he is a stayer, he was entered because the weather has claimed plenty of races already.

Report sintonian January 21, 2011 8:17 PM GMT
Matt Chapman asked him why he was missing from the Arkle race, and if all was OK, and Willie just said Yes, and he's likely to wait for Moriarty. That's it.He then went onto to speak about Flat Out.

Interview should be on ATR website
Report stormey1 January 21, 2011 8:18 PM GMT
Im only paraphrasing but he definateley said something like-both horses run Sunday Emmitt Mullins rides Flat Out and Paul Townend rides Quel Esprit.
Report sintonian January 21, 2011 8:23 PM GMT
re todays interview, he didn't say QE was a definate, but he neither said MDH was either, and it would be hard to imagine him not having one reprsentative. Blazing Tempo is in also who looks very decent but also has a Mares engagement.

Personally think MDH should be given an begginers chase rather than another step into G1 company. The trip of the Moriarty suits QE perfectly at this stage.
Report CVByrne January 21, 2011 8:54 PM GMT
Speed the Moriarity is run would be about the same as the RSA, and we know Quel stays so no fact finding needed there.
Report eric_morris January 21, 2011 9:30 PM GMT

louse69 dont listen to them mate I believe your prices. I have backed him for the Irish Arkle and was tempted earlier but with Mullins you really dont know what will run if like me you dont get inside info.

Studied his first run and for me he is the horse to put it up to Ghizao in the Arkle itself but only if his jumping holds up, he has such speed to burn you know it will be a good Arkle this year with him and Ghizao in it. Also stepped up my combis on Flat Out. There is a strong suspicion Nolan is aiming Noble Prince after his recent comments over elaborating on how the jockey said the further he went the better he went over a longer trip, they are looking to step him up etc ... personally I think they are aiming him at the Arkle behind all of this. He is an interesting candidate and worth a cover.
Report sintonian January 22, 2011 9:32 AM GMT
Louse, I dont listen to stonr words, to be perfectly honest. If you are very closely connected to people involved then fine, but more often than not it is secondary info rather than primary, and you wont make a profit in the long run betting like that.

Report sintonian January 22, 2011 11:51 PM GMT
Impressive though he was, he beat fcuk all that day. The 2nd and 3rd favourites were non-runners on the day. The current 9/4 is a ridiulous price for what he has achieved and is being backed on connections and strength of what the trainer has said.
Report eric_morris January 23, 2011 5:02 AM GMT
Well as he is 2/5 (0.4/1) to lose and 5/2 (2.5/1) to win, you having a more than 6 times better chance of him losing than winning today still doesnt mean you have a clue if he loses clown. His jumping is key.
Report sintonian January 23, 2011 10:07 AM GMT
He was/is favourite, Eric. So dress it up how you like. Flat Out is the least exposed runner in the field today, so he is perfectly entitled to improve and step up on what he has shown, but even someone as biased as you will have to admite he didn'' beat much last time, and his price today has a lot to do with Willie Mullins tipping everyone off. Good lcuk with you bet, if you do have a winner, I hope you enjoy it instead of copying and pasting every comment you have ever made just to gloat.

It looks a good race, and may the best horse win.
Report eric_morris January 23, 2011 1:14 PM GMT
Have covered on Saludos re Flat Out's jumping.
Report eric_morris January 23, 2011 1:53 PM GMT
There we go jumping was the key travelling easy when he fell. Ghizao, Captain Chris and Finian's Rainbow still the ones to beat unless Flat Out and quite a few others of Mullins get jumping lessons. Noble Prince needs stepping up in trip not the pace to win the Arkle.
Report sintonian January 23, 2011 2:08 PM GMT
It may sound silly to say but I dont think Mullins is giving his novices enough time between their races. Flat Out ran just 15 days ago in a beginners chase and was then thrust into grade 1 company. For the top races like Arkle's etc preparation is everything.

I was impressed with Realt Dubh battling back there today, but still think the English horses are the one to beat. Flat Out worth another chance, if he is given the time!
Report eric_morris January 23, 2011 2:13 PM GMT
Agree on that they also need to get someone in to help with jumping coaching the horses. Henderson gets people in to talk to his horses (Long Run who went on to win the King George) dont think a jumping specialist at Mullins to sort them out over the larger obstacles would go amiss. Binocular last season they had someone in sort his hurdling out ... is Mullins going to look for ways of improving the novices jumping?
Report brigust1 January 23, 2011 2:41 PM GMT
Quel Espirit would be a lay for me in the Arkle. In his stable tour WM said 'He's built for chasing, he will appreciate plenty of distance and soft ground'. Doesn't sound like Arkle for me.

I appreciate M D'A wouldn' be ideal but I somehow feel the RSA can be a horse breaker and he wil avoid it with this horse. May be wrong of course, after all I thought Thousand Stars would be his Arkle horse, he got that wrong.
Report eric_morris January 23, 2011 2:54 PM GMT
All evidence so far shows Mikael should go for the longer race re his jumping being way better as he cruised up with Jessie's Dream compared to the 2 miles where he lost his rhythm completely. Quel Esprit will have a better chance in the 2m 4f race. They shouldnt give up on Flat Out for the Arkle  he has the pace and had a great rhythm until he came down.
Report sintonian January 23, 2011 3:09 PM GMT

Was the winner a mile out until he fell. At the absolute worst he places, I had him e/w @ 25/1

Stays 4 miles would have powered home. He's an excellent jumper but makes a balls of one which has cost him twice now. Defo hitting him hard nto with fallers insurance.

Hope he goes for the Hennessy next year. He'll have a decent chance, but the Hennessy winner is so blindingly obvious at this stage. China Rock would have probably beaten Kauto in the Gold cup if he didn't get injured, he was tanking. If it's soft Pando wins.
Report ReaseHeath March 20, 2011 3:47 PM GMT
Long way to that race and would need to see the weights but Denman would have a very good chance again on his Gold Cup run - especially if it comes up soft.

Would n't discount the first two from the latest renewal either - Diamond Harry built for a weight carrying job though Burton Port is much slighter and might struggle with a welter burden, got fitness to prove too but very tough.

The rejuvenated What a Friend on decent ground would also have a squeak (already put up one good performance in the race).

Second season chasers normally do well but not sure there's an obvious candidate coming out of RSA.

I've covered my options pretty well there but I'm really saying don't think it's as cut and dried as China Rock on good and Pandorama on soft at this stage. [;)]

Pandorama put up a decent effort in Gold Cup though given the ground was against him. In fact all the first eight ran creditably which shows what a good race it was (s'pose you could leave the old monkey Tidal Bay out of that but would be churlish to do so)
Report CVByrne March 20, 2011 4:22 PM GMT
China Rock is a certainty Rease, but keep it quiet so we can get some tasty prices. He is out for the rest of the season and a low key prep run over here and he'll go to the Hennessy on near bottom weight. Horse would have beaten Kauto in the Gold Cup, that's coming from Kauto's biggest fan. So he imv would have been a few lengths down on Denman and will get almost 2 stone off him in the Hennessy.

China Rock needs good ground though. Pando will be higher up in the weights but he is a serious horse, and if it's soft ground he has a crackin chance too.
Report ReaseHeath March 20, 2011 4:28 PM GMT

Irish raider China Rock remains in England for treatment after suffering a season-ending injury in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The eight-year-old chestnut, trained by Gold Cup-winning handler Mouse Morris, travelled sweetly from the outset before suddenly weakening four out.

China Rock was subsequently pulled up before the penultimate fence, but it later transpired he had sustained tendinitis in one of his legs.

"I've had to leave him over in England," said County Tipperary-based Morris.

"He's with the doctors and vets over there because he's got a bit of tendinitis.

"It's not life-threatening or anything like that - he'll be back, but not this season.

"I'm gutted because he would have definitely finished in the first four.

"Going down the hill he was travelling unbelievably well.
