Thought Dunraven Storm ran well. Might not go to the very top, but sound beating of a horse that was 7th in the Supreme last season, and conceding weight to that one yesterday, looks reasonable form. Interesting in that respect that Dare Me is the one Hobbs, understandably, seems most excited about among his novice hurdlers for this season. Dunraven Storm's run yesterday could be seen as another small endorsement for Dare Me, in other words.

as others have said, sadly Barbers Shop game pursuit of Kauto in King George looks like it did for him - CCB would want to oppose in Britain, broken blood vessels last twice he's run here.

We learned that Nacarat has won his race for the season and can safely be laid for the remainder of it

Little Josh and Weird Al - cracking race to watch. Carlisle not the hardest fences to jump, but Weird Al took them well enough at a speed a little faster than he will have to go when back over three miles in most company. Good to see he has that basic speed, albeit not yet tested at the highest level.
Tough race first time back from injury though. I hope he hasn't left his Hennessy run behind there. |

We learned that Brian Ellison is more than capable if anyone ever gave him the right ammunition for NH.
2 from 2 over fences this week with 2 reasonable cheap buys that have gone up in the handicap and both border on 125-130. Why cant the big owners see hes up there with the very best i dont know. Personally i hope Neptune Equester can keep progressing and make into an outside chance of a place in the Sun Alliance. If he can learn to jump and the best horses go for the 2m4f novice race, then we might have a chance of a place the way he is ridden. |

Weird Al proved to me he is pure quality.
Carrying 11st"12 on out and out soft ground, not just on season reappearance but injury reappearance, 9 months off, Going right handed for the 1st time jumping, only previous in a bumper, Horse was distressed and still managed to plug on when pushed hard. |

^ was actually carrying 11st 10 - loved the horse since his first novice chase run at Cheltenham last term, particularly liked his economical jumping today - fact he finished distressed (second time) has to be slight concern though.

Trainer didnt seem perturbed at all by the fact he finished distressed, just said after the horse had some water he was back to his normal self in the stable and very relaxed.

Palos Conti is very very very well handicapped and should manage a couple more handicap wins in better company.

As much as I love the horse...I honestly dont believe Kauto is still king. I would be a layer on balance in future...I thought it had quite a hard race there today. I hope it doesnt go to the hennessey...would much rather it went out on a high at kempton..It wont get anywhere closer to IC in gold cup, and What A Friend may also improve past it this year . Brilliant horse but time to consider a well earned step down ..hope im wrong.

Also with regard to Gold-Cup if a very good novice staying chaser emerged, this might be the year to have a direct crack at the gold-cup.

horse ran a blinder on seasonal debut. beat two horses who are race fit, SE clearly stays and could himself be a very good 3 miler in time, and CR is certainly improving. They were well clear of coolcashin who is rated 138, also shows how much CR has improved. perfectly fine debut from kauto, who has shown no signs of regression. put a line through his GC, first mistake knocked the stuffing out of him.
had a 'hard' race behind monets garden in the old roan and still picked up the betfair, king george, a grade 1 at ascot and was second in the GC despite jumping badly. looks as good as ever to me. |

i learned that robinson collonges will win the welsh national next year. forest pennant was given a very quiet ride yday and could be one for a decnet staying handicap chase towards end of season . scottish national maybe. kauto ran super despite hating the ground . sizing europe doesnt stay 3 miles in that conditions.

Dolatulo looks a nice juvenile to follow. I was impressed by Kauto. Like previous posters pointed out, his 2 main rivals were both race fit and both seriously good performers. KS will certainly come on bundles for his first run, as he usually does. Will they go to Newbury? Don't think so.
The Henderson horses are still not ready yet and with the PP meeting only 5 days away it looks like he wont be getting many winners, unlike the Nichols camp. He is firing the winner in. Really sorry for Ruby though. He really has been unlucky  |

That Philip Hobbs has his horses spot on at the moment and so keep following until they tail off a bit and other trainers catch up. I was amazed how easy Nearby was to back again.

have become a fan of Big Zeb. my view of the horse is that he can go fast but is
really quite a strong stayer, so is usually well on top at the finish, and may hit a flat spot. very genuine and his run against masterminded probably much better than i thought at the time. a simple assessment, but its how i see his profile. deserves to be fave for the q mother. |

Have to say I was quite taken with Golden Silver today. He has clearly improved at a rate of knots. THink he will be a force this season

What I have noticed about Hobbs's horses this year, is how freely a number of them have travelled in their races. Nearby has been keen in his runs (despite the decent pace in all three wins), Dunraven Storm (last Saturday) and Wishful Thinking (yesterday) were also serious handfuls for Johnson. But his novice winner at Chepstow on Wednesday would have normally been considered a hard pulling also ran but galloped all the way up the home straight for an easy victory. I have not really noticed this with his horses before, any ideas? Are they getting the old 5f interval treatment at home and want to bring this onto the racetrack proper? |
