thought he emerged from the supreme just about the best horse, might have over the top at punchestown, whats the plan where does he start off ?

Great finish i dont think he could scream HURRICANE FLY!!! any louder if he tryed..

He may have emerged from the Supreme the best horse had their been no jumping to do!!.However as we all know this is a jumping game and until Dunguib improves his jumping he will not be good enough to beat the real good ones.

Wasn't joking - don't think he will top class over jumps and there are bags of moderate contests for good prize money to be hoovered up on the flat.

His hurdle form prior to Cheltenham was far from great, and the price of 4/5 beggered belief. Personally I think last years Supreme was a poor race and non of the main protaganists will be a factor in the Champion hurdle this year.

Exactly Stace, you want a horse who travels well in a race like Hurricane Fly, Binocular and Go Native.

True Howdi he does travel well but he cannot jump and unfortunately that' the name of the game.  CVB - great point for spotting those Festival winners, you do need a horse that travels without being a bridle horse

Dunguib is a class animal and if anyone thinks differnetly they are on the wrong forum.....tiddlewink.com might suit them better.

Fenton intends aiming him at the Champion Hurdle but if I was the owner he'd be gone.

I can here the Panic in Fenton's voice from the other side of the world and as far as I can see there not a thing wrong with Dunguib, who a very intellegent animal, that couldn't be put right with proper handling.

It is highly unlikely he will find the improvement needed to threaten Binocular or Hurricane Fly who both look like they came straight out of the Golden Years of hurdling when Sea Pigeon Night Nurse and Monksfield were struttuing their stuff.

The thing about Dunguib is that he looked the finsihed article long before he turned up at Cheltenham and it's unlikley he's going to show massive improvement.

Was sad to see him beaten at Cheltenham as he had the look of a real Champion but sadly it was not to be.

I would love to see him move to Nicky Henderson where he would get the best schooling money could buy.

While he could well win the Champion Hurdle if anything goes wrong with the aforementioned it must be considered unlikley.

I suppose you have to consider that if placed right there are plenty good prizes he can still pick up over timber. Probably more than he would in novice chases so if that's there way of thinking then from a short time finacial view it could be the best way to go.

While I would want him to go chasing there's no guarantee no matter how well he jumps that he would find an Arkle, with the likes of Get Me Out Of Here and Celestial Halo turning up, any easier to win than the Champion Hurdle.

What swings me towards fencing is his very high cruising speed which is a even bigger asset over fences than it is over hurdles.

Horses with gears like he has very seldom make bad chasers as in most of their races they can do everything in their own time.

I think Fenton is nuts going down the Champion Hurdle route but time will tell.

I dont think this horse will win the champion, but if he can brush up his hurdling, and can learn to settle, i think he is worth another chance to prove himself - i wont be backing him tho!

He won't run on the flat as they won't run him on quick. Pity as he could be the best Cup horse ever!
Agree with Budd re: his speed over hurdles vs a slick jumper like Binocular or Go Native.

It became clear he was over-rated when he was beat at Cheltenham. Can't imagine him beating Hurricane Fly or Solwhit in Ireland this year and very hard to see him beating them and Binocular, Go Native and his Supreme conquerers next March.

he WAS over rated, ie prior to Cheltenhm. Not now after two the two defeats.

i still have not lost faith in him!!probably because of sentimentality but i still believe he should have won the supreme and always will!given way too much to do!!he is an awful jumper tho and that needs to improve!!if he can settle and get a fast pace and improve his jumping a bit, i believe he has the potential to be top top class!i really mean that!

But is that within his stamina range? He faded fast in the Irish Champion and it remains to be seen if as lower pace will help his hurdling. If I remember correctly the slow pace at Leopardstown was blamed for his poor hurdling that day.

At current prices i'm still a backer.
All due respect to binocular and hurricane fly who are worthy favourites but binocular cant learn to be more consistent and hurricane fly cant learn to stay fit.
Dunguib, however should improve his hurdling and should be easier to settle with experience.

Overrated but hardly a plodder. Still came 3rd in the Supreme, and I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the Punchestown race where he ran badly but could have been over the top by then. Will win some decent races but couldn't have it for the CH, or even to place in the race. GMOOH looks a big price to me.
