It's been quite some but after a few succesful weeks I thought i'd get back in the game. In general I've been playing smaller stakes, more lines and looking for the big pots, which I think is the best way to play a pool game like the placepot. Having said that, Chester looks like a couple of solid favourites so i'd be somewhat surprised if this was a big dividend. Only 24 lines here, and I've gone for a few more at Newmarket on a very tricky card which i'm expecting to pay big.
Good luck to anyone playing today.

Just loving the feel-good Olympics! Feeling proud to be British right now and even the most curmudgeonly of my friends are now getting excited about the gold rush. In that spirit, I feel a bit like a 400m hurdler, off to a great start but hit a couple on the back straight. Still, there's a medal to be won, so off to Ripon for a go today. Good luck.

Answer - when it's a Placepot with all the favourites placing!
Meaning I got 0.8 winning lines, and the dividend is £19, so a grand total of -£4. It was disappointing to see Come What Augustus, Bingo des Mottes and Special Account all heavily backed into favouritism before placing.
A fair few punters lazily tick 'favourite' on their Tote slip, and in many cases it can hugely increase the number of winning tickets, thus reducing the payout for the winners. In reality, a decent sized Placepot win is made by finding faves to oppose, which is exactly what I did, before some other jokers came to spoil my party! Anyway, a return is better than a total loss, and here as promised, is what I'm backing tonight at Sandown.

...2 out of 3 ain't bad. And in most cases 5 out of 6 wouldn't be considered too bad, but in the Placepot, it will win you precisely phark all, as proved to be the case again last night. I guess it would be nice to win every day, but as has been the case, a win can make up for several days worth of losses. At the end of the week I'm going to try to do a statistical analysis of performance so far to see if I can hone in on getting a better edge. I'll let you know if I come up with any game-changers!
Anyway, a lot of the cards look fairly Placepot friendly today, so I'm going to go with an afternoon one at Worcester, cos I love some jumps action, and if I have time, an evening one too, probably Sandown.

Well if I don't win today, I'm in the red, but the card at Newmarket looks enticing. Again, we've got some 15 runner races and large fields in general means I've gone for more lines at smaller stakes today. I've had Golden Lilac on my horses to follow list for some time, so she's my banker, although I do really like Maybe as a horse and don't think we've seen the best of her.
Anyway, good luck to all.

Another case of 'so near yet so far' yesterday - The pot was £147. We would have only picked up 0.3 lines, but it would have kept me ahead of the game - we've still got a bit left in the bank but it'd be nice to have another win soon - wouldn't it always?! I have sided with the favourites a bit more today. Firstly, intentionally, as I feel there are a couple that really should make the frame, but secondly, in inadvertently ticking 'unnamed favourite' rather than Ahern on my own card, I will probably end up doubling up on Sir Prancealot in the 2nd race. A salient lesson in checking your slip before pressing 'Go'! Anyway, best of luck to all.

Yeah, I'm in a bad mood today after yesterday's near miss. I'm also getting a bit fed up of awful weather, especially when it leads to reduced cards. It seems everything is cut down to 7, or 15 runners, meaning reduced place terms, or worse 4 runners, meaning win only. Anyway, I've had a go, so here are today's selections for Lingfield - it's a mixed card today, so I feel a little less annoyed at visiting the all weather for 2 days in a row!;

Wolverhampton is the Jackpot meeting today, but I think the cards at Pontefract and Southwell look more Placepot-friendly. At Ponte, the soft-heavy again gives us an opportunity to oppose some favourites, whilst sticking a banker or two in to reduce the number of perms/lines if we can.
In response to a question on how to work out how many lines you have, it's fairly simple, just multiply the number of horses you have in each race. Lets say you pick 2 horses in every race, your lines would be 2x2x2x2x2x2=64 lines.
You can see how, if you can find a real banker in even one race, you can reduce your lines by half straight away - Let's say you have a nailed on horse in the first, your lines are 1x2x2x2x2x2=32 lines.
Likewise, if you had a particularly tricky last race and you wanted 3 horses...
