...2 out of 3 ain't bad. And in most cases 5 out of 6 wouldn't be considered too bad, but in the Placepot, it will win you precisely phark all, as proved to be the case again last night. I guess it would be nice to win every day, but as has been the case, a win can make up for several days worth of losses. At the end of the week I'm going to try to do a statistical analysis of performance so far to see if I can hone in on getting a better edge. I'll let you know if I come up with any game-changers!

Anyway, a lot of the cards look fairly Placepot friendly today, so I'm going to go with an afternoon one at Worcester, cos I love some jumps action, and if I have time, an evening one too, probably Sandown.

So 2 of my lines won on the day. The dividend was £84.60, so that gave me a profit of £48.48 on the day. Nice to come back with a winner - apologies for the last minute post - hope others had a winning day too.

Apologies to anyone who was following the blog for my sudden unexplained absence. I have had a rather nasty bout of food poisoning, or something, resulting in some fairly unpleasant bathroom scenes. I will be back tomorrow and am studying hard to come back with a bang!

Well if I don't win today, I'm in the red, but the card at Newmarket looks enticing. Again, we've got some 15 runner races and large fields in general means I've gone for more lines at smaller stakes today. I've had Golden Lilac on my horses to follow list for some time, so she's my banker, although I do really like Maybe as a horse and don't think we've seen the best of her.

Another case of 'so near yet so far' yesterday - The pot was £147. We would have only picked up 0.3 lines, but it would have kept me ahead of the game - we've still got a bit left in the bank but it'd be nice to have another win soon - wouldn't it always?! I have sided with the favourites a bit more today. Firstly, intentionally, as I feel there are a couple that really should make the frame, but secondly, in inadvertently ticking 'unnamed favourite' rather than Ahern on my own card, I will probably end up doubling up on Sir Prancealot in the 2nd race. A salient lesson in checking your slip before pressing 'Go'! Anyway, best of luck to all.

Yeah, I'm in a bad mood today after yesterday's near miss. I'm also getting a bit fed up of awful weather, especially when it leads to reduced cards. It seems everything is cut down to 7, or 15 runners, meaning reduced place terms, or worse 4 runners, meaning win only. ...heartbreaking! A bad break from the stalls looks to have cost us a placepot today, which came out at £157. I take some consolation from the fact that I rightly opposed a poor favourite, and that even with a quick switch this morning, I managed 5 from 6 legs... but ultimately I'd rather have the cash!

Well, it's with some reluctance that I head to Wolverhampton after all. I don't know, there's something unseemly about the all-weather to me. Many years ago, the very first time I went to Wolverhampton, I backed a horse that the owner told me was going to go well at a big price. It went into the final turn full of running but just came home 4th of 14. I spoke to the jockey a few weeks later who told me the trainer had told him to finish out of the places as they were backing it next time out. Needless to say I was fuming, as was the owner, who took his horse elsewhere, and maybe that's coloured my view of the place....

But anyway, the placepot pool should hopefully be boosted by the abandonments, so here we go;
