Think it's about time we started this thread.

What's all your onions?

I'm waiting for the weigh-in. Mitchell looked a bit chubby the last time that I saw him (the sit down, face to face interview with Burns) and I don't know how he's been training for this, after a death in the family.

I've fancied Burns from the beginning and the weigh-in will tell me how much to put on (unless anyone can make a convincing case for Mitchell?).

Burns on pts looks the obvious call but I've had a gut feeling for a while that Ricky is going to jab his head off all night and stop him late on. You obviously can't totally rule out Mitchell that's why it's a good fight and polarising opinion so much. Seeing them together I just get the feeling Ricky is the boss between the two of them and will be able to fight his fight on the night. Mitchell admitted Burns got the better of their sparring although that doesn't always mean a great deal.

Waiting to see a bit more of the build up before committing to make sure Ricky's camp has gone well but most likely playing Burns outright plus a bit more on rnds 1-12.

Ricky did get the better of the sparring they previously undertook, but both admitted that Mitchell wasn't fit enough to give an accurate account of himself.

With home advantage; AND a steely-desire to get every ounce from his career I believe Ricky will get the business done; can't see him stopping him, but can see him dominating the fight with his jab á la Moses last February.

Mitchell's heart seems to be in the right place; but seems to be a very emotional guy [notwithstanding the recent tragedy that has befallen his family]. Despite by all accounts a sound training camp, I will take him on at his current price.

He is admittedly, in the last-chance saloon, and on paper, this is a more winnable fight, as I don't believe Rickster "bangs" to the same degree that Katsidis did before JMM schooled him.

I like Mitchell, I think he's fundamentally a better boxer but I fear he'll lose a close decision.

Burns has been carefully managed since the Martinez fight, bout time he was in a 50/50 fight.

Pledged to stay away from betting on this fight a couple of weeks ago. Watched a few hours of videos and really can't split them. Can someone tell me why the Burns KO (top price 6/1) is only half a point bigger than the Mitchell KO (11/2)??!! Mitchell has the far better power and Burns has feather fists!

sj, you have trouble getting those defeats to Arthur & Johanneson out of your head ! The guy has improved leaps since then. I'm most impressed with his fitness and conditioning. He reminds me a bit like Steve Robinson who leaped from being an average domestic fighter to a genuine operator at world level when he got his chance. Brave match making to take on Martinez and clever match making to catch Katsidis on the slide. At his best, he won't get into a war with Mitchell and should come home on points.

No I dont mate. I believe Rocky had his worst possible night and Burns had his best. You've just said yourself they got Kats at the right time. There has been no-one else so I wont back a fighter at odds on, on one performance

I like Burns , very talented boxer to have a W/L record like that without hardly being able to knock anyone over seemingly.

I like Mitchell too but i think this will be a boring fight, with Burns winning a 117-111 type decision without much happening.

Also think a poor fight for both to take . Loser's stock will fall a long way but can't see the winner being elevated much in world terms , as neither is a world name .

after giving it a bit more thought I've decided to leave the Burns outright alone...as others have said the odds are just too cramped. I've had a go on Burns 1-12 @ around 6s though and a little bit on Burns 10-12 @ 25s. Logic says its an unlikely outcome but sometimes you've got to go with your instinct and I think Burns can hurt Mitchell to the body and with the home crowd roaring him on and Mitchell having to take risks if he's behind on the cards I'm prepared to give him a go at the prices.

I really think Mitchell can go and do the business against burns fighting away from home isn't a problem for him as proved in the Murray fight, although burns has improved  he has been carefully matched since winning his titles and didn't fight the same katsidis Mitchell did years before its also worth remembering before he got blown away Mitchell  was doing ok in that fight , he clearly wasn't fit mentally or physically in the one . It could be very likely that burns will box mitchell for 12 rnds but Mitchell isn't just a banger he can box himself as he did in the Prescott fight , I do not believe that burns has the power to hurt Mitchell and he will gain confidence from this during the fight , I will be backing Mitchell to win via ko,tko,td or dq. Good luck all

Have to agree with Tober about poor fight for both in terms of career progression. Although I don't care much about what happens after as i think the fight itself will be a cracker! Still no bet for me.

I disagree slightly, its a poor fight for Burns cos beating Mitchell will not catapult him into the limelight anymore than he is now.

However if Mitchell wins he will be world champ and he will seek big fights, before his loss to Katsidis he was talking about fighting Khan etc, he won't be content fighting bums and i've every confidence he wouldn't run from Broner like Burns did.

Good point well made Owl. Who does Frank Warren want to win?
By:

For a while it looked like Mitchell would be Warrens new star and it all quickly turned to sh*t, I think Warren would want the biggest ticket seller to win.

If anything it benefits Warren if Mitchell wins cos he could then sell the rematch at upton park if its close, if Burns wins then i suppose its Harrison in Scotland.

Have to agree a lot of warren fighters are jumping ship at the min and in terms of selling tickets Mitchell outsells burns warren also has a good relationship with upton park and west ham if he can win there are more big money fights for mitchell

See the Burns camp have had Terry O'Connor removed for fear of bias. I don't think he is biased, he's just plain awful. (Just take a look at the Calzaghe v Manfredo stoppage if you don't believe me).

Really looking forward to this fight, a fan of both fighters but Burns wins this imo.

Cracking fight. Too close to call.

Burns improved hugely over last 5 years.

If this fight had happened 5 years ago Mitchell would be 1/5-1/10. Now burns is 1/2sh.

Good weird match up this.

Personaly more looking forward to frampton v molitor

Some people will never forgive Ricky for the Martinez defeat Laugh

As it is there's no doubt Burns has made the best of what he's got but I can't see how Mitchell wins.

Ricky by UD.

Btw he may not get a lot career-wise out the fight but he does get to beat England Grin

Couldnt back a fighter at odds on when he's only had one meaningful win mate. Fair play though you must of seen something I dont

I spoke to me mate who knocks about with him Mitchell, and he reckons he's never been so sure about Kevin as he is tonight. He's well and truly back on track. I know this wont help much, but I thought I'd just stick it out there anyway for anyone with doubts over his mental state,  motivation or conditioning.

How many meaningful fights has Mitchell had? Prescott? Murray? Having a laugh? I wouldn't be surprised if Mitchell won and respect your opinion for thinking he will win but holding it against Burns for not having meaningful fights against Mitchell is hilarious.

Your arguement has no point mate. I'm not saying Mitchell will beat Burns, I'm not saying Mitchell has mixed it at world level, what I am saying is I'm not prepared to back a man at 8-13 who has had 1 world class performance as far as I'm concerned
By:
Shrewd_dude
When: 22 Sep 12 21:07
Ok fair dos if your saying your not backing him on that basis but he's still had one world class performance more than Mitchell has and been more consistent. Mitchell has pretty much disapointed his whole career given his early talent. Didn't mean to come across as a **** but had a few Sherbets.
