really looking forward to this one sj. You see anything in this fight mate? Didnt rate Chavez at all a few years ago but he's been very impressive last few fights and i now think he has a genuine chance if he brings it to Martinez. Whatever the reasons for Chavez's improvement (and i certainly know what i think) you have to acknowledge how he's come on.
I would say there is a slight question mark over Martinez's stamina as he has appeared to be very tired in some of his fights. No doubt he's the better boxer and punch picker but i think if Chavez walks him down and pressures him then he can stop him. There's a lot of guesswork and suppositions there but i think Chavez rounds 7-12 is value at 9/1. |

Martinez always looks tired he will be breathing heavy after round 1. I agree though Chavez looks more like a light heavy crusier come fight time, I think this finishes 2nd half havent decided who yet though, wether it be a accumalation from Martinez or Chavez's new found will, power and strength coming on late to stop the much smaaller Sergio

Just watched the Face Off. Really enjoyed it despite having to read subtitles for 13 minutes! Won't be betting on it due to the Chavez juice issue but looking forward to watching for sure. What channel is it screened on? Some cracking 50/50 (ish) fights coming up with Burns Mitchell, Sturm Geale and even Dawson Ward which i think could be closer than betting suggests (obvious weight issues).

By the way the Martinez KO of Williams is one of my favorites ever. Never tire of watching it.
|
|
By:
good question, what channel is it on? cant see it in sky or boxnation schedules!

Think its gonna be primetime.

Mother of all battles this.
Who ur money on. It's too close to call Iv gone for Chavez purly because he is a better price and I just couldn't go without having a bet on such a competitive fight. Best not to bet on but that's boring. Surly martinez takes an early lead. Wats gona be the weight difference on fight night??? Hope they show wat weight both fighters r on the night just before kick off. Sometimes they show it sometimes they dnt. Huge factor I believe |
|
By:
Interesting thread haven't seen both for a while, thought I'd read up on it after I seen Chavez's shot resistance & recent stamina improvement wink. Won't bother watching it live now I'll d/l it tomorrow. No doubt martinez would whup this lad a few years ago but with Ariza's help. Hmmm?

Chavez looked like a zombie at the weigh in

He looked bad sj! The fact he came in at 158 would worry me if id backed him too. What you think he'l enter the ring at mate? 173? more? Some serious re-hydrating to be done thats for sure!
|

By:
F**k it, gone for Martinez, looks like he's trained v hard.
|
|
By:
I'm on the draw.
|
|
By:
This is a tough 1 to call.
Is Chavez drained or has he trained like a demon. I'm shocked And confused at his weight. Lol |
|
By:
Draw a cool bet. Iv gone for the cover.
Backed Chavez in d last few weeks. Am startin to change my mind |
|
By:
Who u going for sj and jimmy.
U sure he looked drained sj and jimmy. |
|
By:
I m all over the Martinez ko, man against boy tonight hopefully.

hard to bet against chavez when you know he's most likely on drugs. sergio might not be able to hurt him and chavez might do serious damage with those wide hooks to body and head. i like chavezs willpower and determination. the guy is a fighter through and through. he will give everything to prove himself tonight. you have to think he will get the benefit of any doubt on the cards.
i dont rate martinez as highly as others. his stamina is going. say what you want about chavezs recent opponents but in my opinion, if you put andy lee up against sarren barker, macklin, dzinzurik, he would probably be the favourite. and chavez walked through him. that post fight interview by lee is something you should listen to again. "he just walked through my shots, the punches i landed on him would have knocked out other people, hes much better than people give him credit for" i see chavez adopting the high guard and coming inside and letting his hands go. he will make the fight competitive at the very least, which may be all he needs to do to win. hes better than barker/macklin or dzinzuruik, he would KO them all im putting some money down on julio |

chavez wins

Obviously refusing drug tests and Suliman being your Godfather worries me. But I look at the Rubio Zbik performances and even Andy Lee(apparently that performance made him a superstar) and he still does nothing for me.
Sergio stoppage at 7-2, either fighter 2nd half 14-5(in case Chavez's strength does kick in) |
|
By:
either fighter second half has got my money. Nice price and you can imagine a weight draines Chavez getting stopped OR likewise a juice filled Chavez walking Martinez down and stopping him.
Just far too many unknowns here, one to watch rather than get heavily stuck into! Carlos, Chavez always looks bad on the scales imo but he did look a little more dry and skeletal than usual.....maybe he's particularly good at rehydrating and will be fine but coming in at 158 would worry me. |
|
By:
My advice on this fight is don't bet on it.
Martinez should win but it's an open secret that Chavez was juiced up against Lee and probably will be again tonight. |
|
By:
I'm just so excited by this fight.
Shocking betting patterns |
|
By:
In the afternoon Martinez drifted from 1.55 to 1.66 at about 11.30 pm
and then suddenly in the space of 30 mins his price hit below 1.5. Shocking |
|
By:
Are you kidding? There is only 40K matched... how is it shocking?
It would not take more than 2 grand to shift it. |
|
By:
See wat I mean. 1.46
|
|
By:
Wrong man. Plenty of money was being laid.
And 40k is alot for a boxing match with no superstars or British fighter involved |
|
By:
Is this still on for 3am?
Who you all backing |
|
By:
Carlos, the prices are just moving in line with Vegas lines. There is no conspiracy here.
I make Sergio a 1.33 shot, there is no way JCC will live with him in the later rounds. So at 1.55 it was a steam on price and many piled in. Every fight is made out to be a pick em, just to get the PPV figs up... this is not one of them. |
|
By:
Iv taken ur advice sj and jimmy. Iv gone for Martinez.
Backed Chavez earlier in the weeks. But changed ship today. Iv gone Martinez outright. Stopages I'm cursed. Chavez has a solid solid solid chin |
|
By:
Fair play barza.
It's just Martinez was gettin bigger and bigger. And suddenly it went down south so quickly. Dnt see it happen to often in boxing. When a price gets bigger it dnt stop in boxing, it just gets bigger bigger and vice versa eg haye v chisora, canelo v m hatton, klichko haye etc. But then again it's a more even fight then the others so both fans going heavy. Martinez money winning so far |
|
By:
I see a contender for lapped salida here.
It's been a very long time since a fight has got me this excited. |
|
By:
1 tough fight.
Hope it's a long tough fight. Good luck all backers. Here goes |

By:
Of course but that's my last post. Not long now mate.
Drinking, smoking, gambling, posting on forums. Gettin too much. I'm out Enjoy d fight of the year coming up in my opinion. Let's go Martinez. 3 years too soon for Chavez. Roach in not so good position if Chavez loses. Respect |
