On Saturday I watched Imperial Commander in company with stablemate Sybarite complete little more than a circuit of Kempton part at a steady pace. He wasn't put under any pressure during the exercise or asked any questions. Following the gallop he was happy, relaxed and his recovery time was minimal. He was on his way home before an obstacle was jumped in earnest.
In our own little niave bubble we were happy. The purpose of the exercise was to assess his progress, to provide mental stimulus and variety in his training regime, and to give him the opportunity to gallop on turf rather than the all weather gallops at home.
