*her dam's sire

lol
Report push • August 19, 2009 9:28 PM BST
He might not stay , but he beat a bunch of stayers over 1 mile 4f, stays far enough. His dam was a high class miler.
Report push • August 19, 2009 9:34 PM BST
Be interested to see if he could get a colt Grp 1 winner over 1m4f, would you back one of his for the Derby ? His sire Green Desert only got sprinters and milers.
Report ben10 • August 19, 2009 9:35 PM BST
Yeah but I think the clues are in the dam side, Indepence gets 10 furlong horses, such as Mount Nelson (Rock Of Gibratar is hardly an influence of stamina either) and I think Monitor is in the same mould.
Report ben10 • August 19, 2009 9:37 PM BST
Yeah I would consider it, like I say if the likes of him and Pivotal can get Oaks fillies there's no reason it can't work for the colts. Cape Cross had the Derby horse this year so things are changing in terms of stoute pedigrees.

Sorry *stout

Mount Nelson by Danehill ( 9.1 f) stamina index Oasis Dream ( 7.7 f ) plus Danehill has shown he can get colts that stay 1 mile 4f at Grp 1 level. Pivotal and O.Dream have only so far got fillies that stay, fillies ( imo ) stay better and their races tend to be less competative than the colts. I think STS is an exception as he is out of one of the best Broodmares ever.

Had any good winners recently Ben ?
Report ben10 • August 19, 2009 10:00 PM BST
You are possibly right, daughters tend to resemble their mothers more and sons their fathers, be interesting to see although you look at Showcasing and he's all over a sprinter.

Nothing special punting, just been ticking over quite nicely, had a couple of Tregoning's lately which have done me well. Not a massive fan of these festivals there's too many runners for me to figure out how the race is going to pan out, I like the handicaps with 10ish runners at the good tracks.
Been some good maidens to follow lately, did you see Newbury last week? Have you had much recently?
Report push • August 19, 2009 10:05 PM BST
Yeh , Balthazars Gift at Newbury, and the Scarlet Pimp at York , then lost a bit in the Votigeur, was also on the 2nd in the Gimcrack at 25-1. That Shamardal colt may run in the Futurity at the weekend, but will prob be soft ground, waiting to see him on faster ground before i decide about him.
Report ben10 • August 19, 2009 10:13 PM BST
Nice one, not too bad then. Yeah looks like soft at Fairyhouse by the weekend, I think Cape Blanco is the one for that race, think he's in the mould of Rip and they'll go for the Guineas more than they did with Rip. What did you think of Changingoftheguard today, I felt it was a Leger performance?
Report push • August 19, 2009 10:18 PM BST
Well i took the 25-1 before todays race, because the horse they ran in this 2 years ago went off the fave for the Leger. But AOA must be their No 1 hope as he was 2nd in a Grp 1 in France.

« Il ressemble énormément à son père, Oasis Dream,

meilleur fils dOasis Dream que jai à lentraînement.

Nous allons prendre la même route que nous avions suivie
avec son père et aller courir les Middle Park Stakes

His trainer, John Gosden, [who

He resembles his father, Oasis Dream, tremendously
notable by his physical appearance and it is indeed
the best son of Oasis Dream whom I have in training.
We are going to take the same road which we had followed
with his father and go to run the Middle Park Stakes

Quote from Tony Morris in yesterdays RP in his pedigree analysis of Oasis Dreams` daughter Midday.
"He is emulating another pure sprinter in Pivotal by essentially transmitting class rather than one distinct aptitude relating to distance."
My comment was slightly tic but I was more making reference to the fact he was also an Abdullah sprinter by trade and is showing positive early signs of upgrading mares with both class and stamina.
Why cant there be another Danehill?

I took 25-1 with Hills after the win at Newmarket, but looking at the form with the filly in the race ( Special Duty ) , look like they could all be sprinters, although Arcano does have alot of stamina on the dams side. Bunch finish , and Special Duty was a bit of a bunch finish LTO . I wont be getting too excited just yet.

90k? Do you really think they are going to treble his fee in the current climate? I don't. But I could well see him being 50k next year assuming his sales go well.

When I spoke to them about booking a provisional nom for 2010 season earlier in the year, they were not planning to raise his fee, and said that it would largely depend on how the sales went and how the trade held up. However, he has been banging in the group winners since then and one assumes that anything by him will be hot this season, so an increase is almost inevitable. Sons of his will be very acceptable too I would imagine.

With breeding like that and a sound horse, you cant help but dream. HIs mothers half brother Ulundi went for peanuts as well untried at Judmonte, so heres hoping another one has slipped the net.
Report ben10 • November 11, 2009 11:36 PM GMT
Such an interesting horse the more I look at it. If he's perfectly fine I'd chuck him in a mile maiden on the AW and see how he gets on, in terms of handicaps he'd probably get 75 or a bit higher if he won, even if he didn't though it would be near that imo. If he wins probably look to put him away but I reckon he'd just about get 2 miles over hurdles and maybe it's worth getting him schooled because I think he'd get the trip and could be a good horse, particularly in the juvenile division at Northern tracks where a lot of trainers just hope for the best :p . Anyway think I'm getting ahead of myself :) but looks a smashing buy and you're sure to get loads of interest in shares. Not really sure about the stallion thing, he needs to show something (although hurdles wins could make him interesting for NH breeders). Good luck, I'll be looking out for him whatever he does :)

Report Slick'N'Smooth • February 13, 2010 9:01 PM GMT
Oasis Dream is not a big horse, nor is he a typical sprinter type. He is quite small but has a lot of quality. He is muscular without 'bulk' and looks stronger sideways on then when stood in front of him.

When Simon Mockridge took me to see him in his paddock, one thing I noticed was how he was always on the go. Simon told me he has always been like this, he never really settles in the field and has a track in a figure 8 that he walks around all day.

I saw Captain Gerrard at the Feb sale and he seems a very similar type physically to his sire. I have a couple of OD's and they would be fairly typical as well, strong horses but not coarse or bulky.

Also at the Feb sale was a mare from the immediate family. She again was smallish with muscle but not width. She was well bought by Luke Lillingston for very shrewd judge and breeder Seamus Burns.
Report push • February 13, 2010 9:34 PM GMT
Yes, size does not seem to matter as far as Oasis Dreams are concerned, i was reading a review of Showcasing , his trainer J.Gosden said he is very similar to his sire in size and temperament, and will be aimed at the top sprint races as a 3yo.
I saw Anabaa at Newmarket for the July Cup, another from the Danzig sire line, and he was a monster , massive deep chest, Pivotal, and Danehill Dancer were also in that race .

Want to have a look at Arcano not sure if he has trained on looking at his poor show in the Greenham, but being a GR1 winning 2 y'old that beat both Canford Cliffs and Special Duty not to mention his July stakes victory this colt holds lot of appeal for next season, along with Showcasing who may though stay in training, his run yesterday did leave me wondering has he trained on?Do these two hold appeal to commercial breeders?
Report RipVanWinkle • June 20, 2010 2:43 PM BST
Showcasing doesn't really appeal to me and i dont think that he will retire next year because he has not shown enough to retire to Banstead.
Arcano does look very interesting though as he was better than Aqlaam at two and aqlaam is out of a Rainbow Quest mare so that might not appeal to someHappy Arcano is out of a Daylami mare so they should be tough and hardy. He could possibly retire to Derrinstown as Aqlaam is in England
Report Prima Donna • June 20, 2010 2:57 PM BST
Rip Van,I did wonder if Arcano would go to Derrinstown,he would hold plenty of appeal over here,Aqlaam is one I don't like at all also his fertility is not so good I understand,I like showcasing on paper he looks a good sort too but he does need to improve a lot,Arcano would be the only son of OD in Ireland I'd guess he would be very popular if thats it for him how much do you think they could stand him for?I was thinking of about6/8k euro's?
Report RipVanWinkle • June 20, 2010 3:05 PM BST
I'd say around 8 cause if there any lower in two years he'd be at around 5. He would get some amount of mares and with Marju not well at the moment i'm sure there thinking of finding a stallion and Arcano could be the one. I would send a mare to him as he would be very commercial. But if they are to retire him and hope he succeeds they should do it soon as the worst thing is if they kept racing him and doing no good. Showcasing isn't for me i'm afraid. A horse that i am interested in is Siyouni doubt he'll go to stud in Ireland but he's a group 1 winning two year old by Pivotal out of a Danehill mare from the family of Slickly would be interesting
Report Prima Donna • June 20, 2010 3:34 PM BST
I don't know Rip Van I guess he will go to stud in France,I never know what to make of those Aga Khan family's,he always seems to get far more out of them than any of us could.Do you think Pivotal is a sire of sires?
Siyouni although early himself, comes from a middle'ish distance Aga family and with Pivotal behind him 1st time he may be okay, but I'm sure he'd be popular with first foals/yearlings but doubt we would send him one.
Report RipVanWinkle • June 20, 2010 5:17 PM BST
I'd like to give him a try as he wouldn't stand for much and considering how much pivotal stands for and good sons of danehill he could be relatively cheap and he's a group 1 winning two year old. Kyllachy hasn't been bad, Captain rion has done well with average books and i like the look of Excellent art have a filly by him so maybe Pivotal might not be bad
Report potentialmillionaire • June 20, 2010 9:19 PM BST
P.D. I hope you've not failed us in your paddock duty at Royal Ascot. If I find out you spent the week mincing round trying to get on TV with your leopard print waistcoat. . .well I'll then have to admit that RipVan was right.Laugh
I thought Siyouni did not look like the 2yo type we might have guessed him to be? I'd certainly need a closer look before I got enthused.
Showcasing seemed to be a bit of a fat arsed 2yo type only. Does he have enough scope? The 3y0 sprinter syndrome could be affecting him? If he came back at 4 I'd forgive him a w/o 3yo career perhaps.
Arcano. I've harped on before about how I struggle with the 2yo type that doesn't have a massive profile and doesn't train on. Whats more, my memory is better than the trainers! 6500 euros max for him.
Report Prima Donna • June 20, 2010 10:03 PM BST
Pot'M if Arcano is 6,500 euros then he offers good value. Undoubtedly he will be very popular at that price.

There was no mincing done by me Pot'M, of that you can be assured Mischief and do I really strike you as the type to wear leopard print!

Siyouni, I would agree with your view on that horse physically. I think he may be Sendawar the second, where you would think he will be commercial but just never really is. I am yet to be convinced about Pivotal as a sire of sires and also as a sire of 2yo in general. His daughters on the other hand do make good broodmares.

Showcasing, a strong and quality 2yo type, I did like him. But was scratching my head after his run. He will have to do more to get the mare we want to send. I wouldn't think he could be described as lacking scope though.

Main Aim, Completely different type to Showcasing, more like Selkirk. Hard to see him getting 2yo's. Being by OD will help him though and I'm sure he won't lack for mares. I could see him poss standing with David Redvers, same deal as Trade Fair. Tweenhills would be keen to cash in on the Oasis Dream wave atm.

Maybe, I've got a barrener that I mentioned in relation to Starspangledbanner, who'd suit anything really as she's very classy and does a nice foal.

But as my constant refain goes, if he stands say at 8k I would be looking at an outlay of 11+ to get her home in foal. If Arcano then is deemed a cheapie come sales time, well I've had it with a filly probably. Nothing earth shattering with my musings I suppose but I guess staying at home would get me Equiano, Paco Boy and who knows what else with the same outlay but a higher profile.

It needs to come down to which one has the looks and the genes that promise the same in his offspring I guess. But I'm keen to hear comments!

Showcasing standing for 5k sterling Oct 1st,both these have plenty of appeal and are priced about the same, with using a Shadwell stallion if you get a nice colt then you do have a chance that they themselves may bid on it and poss' buy it,I'm not so sure Whitsbury support their sires. If you do Pot M you could get her back home for a total of say 8k looks value I'd say, what do you reckon?.

I think at that fee, he won't be available for very long. In my humbles he beats Showcasing just about hands down. However I would place 75% of my decision on looks. I suspect Showcasing wins that one, but I have seen neither. Any definitive thoughts Prima? And everyone else please.

Pot M,if you are thinking of him then put your name down as he has had so far 150 applications Shadwell are going to restrict his book to just 90 mares. They will sort out what they decide they will take in terms of quality hoping to give him his best chance, nothing will be decided until after Dec' sales!I reckon if you do use him in the long run he will cost you the same as going to Showcasing..........what a tough decision you may have to make.

I always worry about going on a 'short list' as I never know what to do about putting the mare up for other stallions while they dither and then turn me down!

Am I being too sensitive Prima? I presume you will tell me to nominate all over the place and then turn down all but the strongest choice!

Anyone got a handle on Arcano's confirmation yet?

Yes that is tricky and they really ought to get their act together sooner rather than later,I have not seen Arcano yet at Derrinstown but did see him race ages ago he was a strong sort reminds me of Bushranger. Why don't you pop over and take a look at him?

It'll have to be after December sales but if I can string a few together I might hop over.

His galloping photo left me unable to categorically deny the prescence of the beautiful and classy Daylami. That would have to be a factor!

Gay O'Callaghan standing Approve at 5k euros, thought he would stand him at that fee under-cutting Arcano by a grand.Hoping to scoop up mares unable to get into Arcano, sensibly priced sure to be commercial at the price for the only other son of Oasis Dream here,I wonder if his brother Tony perhaps thinks Zebedee has been priced too expensively?I sure as hell do!
