Tottenham v West Brom, KO 1945
Tottenham will go into this game ruing the two points they dropped at the weekend in Swansea and anxious to get back to winning ways. They could hardly have picked better opponents, Opta tells us that during the last seven meetings between the two sides Spurs have won five and drawn two against the Baggies at White Hart Lane.
Opta also point out that West Brom have only kept one clean sheet in their last 28 Premier League away games and they come into this game just 48 hours after suffering a cruel late home defeat at the hands of Everton. Roy Hodgson may have to do without the services of injured skipper Chris Brunt whilst Scot Parker is a doub for the home team, having limped off with 20 minutes to go against Swansea. You don't need to be Sherlock to work out that this looks like a home banker for the multiple.
Wigan v Sunderland, KO 1945
Sunderland fans could be excused for thinking that Harry Potter had been appointed manager after Steve Bruce's departure, as Sunday's win against Manchester City bordered on witchcraft!
If Martin O'Neil is to work any more magic he will have to do it against one of Sunderland's bogey teams on Tuesday night. Opta highlight the fact that the Black Cats have won only two of their 11 Premier League games against Wigan and have lost six of those contests. They struggle particularly badly away from home, having picked up only two points from their five Premier League encounters at the DW Stadium.
But this season could be different because of Wigan's dire home form, Opta point out that Sunderland are on a dreadful run having not won at the DW in seven games, drawing three and losing four.
Wigan go into the game with one injury, Emerson Boyce being their only long-term casualty whilst Sunderland have Fraizer Campbell, Michael Turner, Craig Gordon and Connor Wickham all vying for attention in the treatment room. Martin O'Neil may well wave his magic wand again and pick up all three points and add to Wigan's poor run of home results.
Everton v Bolton, KO 2000 Wednesday
If Bolton are to make it a happy new year they will have to buck the trend because, as Opta point out, they have won only one opening game in a new calendar year in 10 attempts, losing six and drawing three. Everton come into this game in good heart having grabbed the spoils at the death on Sunday at West Brom whilst Bolton would have been hoping for more than a one point return from their home clash with Wolves.
A goal feast appears unlikely, there have been exactly two goals during each of the last four encounters between the two sides. Everton have kept two clean sheets in their last three Premier League games and a 2-0 scoreline to the Toffees, which was the result when these two clubs met at the Reebok at the end of November could be on the cards.
