Carling Cup match previews

25 Oct 11 12:00
Arsenal v Bolton

The youngsters will be drafted in by Arsenal, but given their recent improvement with six wins in seven, the fact that their second string reached the final last year, and that they last lost at home in the Carling Cup in January 2004, 1.63 is a tasty price for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger's men have won seven on the spin at the Emirates in the competition and six in a row when entertaining Bolton.

One area in which they continue to struggle though, even as the results get better, is at the back, conceding in four of their last five in north London. Bolton have scored in four of their five away fixtures, so expect both to score.

Best Bet: Both teams to score @ 1.7

Cardiff v Burnley

In tribute to Paraguay's run to the Copa America Final, Cardiff appear determined to try to make it to Wembley without winning a single game, having progressed past Oxford, Huddersfield and Leicester in matches that were level after 90 minutes.

Their genius plan could be foiled by Burnley though, who have triumphed twice already this month on their travels and held Cardiff at Turf Moor. The two teams have drawn their last three clashes, so given that the Clarets have also been taken to extra-time twice, this one may go the distance too.

Best Bet: Lay Cardiff @ 2.12

Crystal Palace v Southampton

Arguably the two standout performers in the Championship this season collide at Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace haven't yet beaten one of their top-half rivals, being held by West Ham and Blackpool and losing to Middlesbrough.

Table-topping Southampton haven't won any of their last five away encounters against divisional rivals however, and as their hosts have claimed three straight victories without conceding, they are the more appetising of the two to back.

Best Bet: Back Crystal Palace @ 3.25
