Celtic's preparations for this trip to the Spanish capital have been disrupted by Sion's repeated attempts to replace them in Group I. The Swiss side beat Celtic 3-1 on aggregate in the qualifiers, but were expelled by UEFA for fielding ineligible players. Sion's appeal fell on deaf ears, bringing to an end the longest "will they, won't they?" saga since Penny and Vince's tortuous romance in "Just Good Friends."

Celtic's European away record has been famously pitiful in recent years, and they haven't won on the continent since they beat Dinamo Moscow in 2009. If you count the 3-1 loss at Sion, they've lost on five of their last seven European road-trips. Celtic have won five out of six SPL matches, but against relatively weak opponents that's to be expected.

Atletico have made a bad start in La Liga, with just one point gained from two matches. However, in this season's Europa League, Los Rojiblancos have won home games against Stromsgodset and Guimaraes.

Given Celtic's terrible away record, 1.46 for an Atletico Madrid win looks about right. Brave souls may look at 4.7 for the draw or 8.6 for the Celtic win, but I doubt they'll be rewarded for their chutzpah.

Over/under 2.5 goals

Without departed strikers Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan, Atletico have unsurprisingly struggled for goals, and haven't scored at all in La Liga. New recruit Radamel Falcao was the competition's top scorer last season with 17 goals, but he's short of match practice after starting just once this term.

Atletico are defending well, with just two goals conceded in six games. Promising Belgian keeper Thibault Courtois has settled in after arriving on loan from Chelsea. Celtic aren't scoring freely away from home (six goals in four games), so I fancy under 2.5 goals at 2.18

Atletico to win to nil?

I can't see Celtic avoiding defeat, and Atletico have kept four clean sheets already this season. Odds of 2.56 for Atletico to win to nil looks tempting.
