Avonnova another tough Run.
Huge run 3 wide the Trip. |
|
By:
No horse in this region has worked harder than Mach Beauty recently and for them to do what they did with it in the first heat was astonishing. The thought of it running around in a 2500m heat again on Friday is beyond laughable and borderline cruel.
I am also astonished that I can't find any tip commentary online for tonights fields or last Fridays. Unless I'm missing something (as a person who has followed harness for decades) then that's just pathetic. |

Looking forward to Gav sitting back and giving PM a softish run tonight. Would have to be an extremely slow learner to be on it IMHO but we'll see.

Puppet vs Gavin on the big two, what a duel!!!
|
|
By:
I will never, never ever understand some harness racing drivers. Has nobody told them there's a 2500m race in 3 days and the richest race of the year 8 days after that?
Option 1: Sit behind the favourite and get a dream easy run. Pretty much every driver in the series would kill to get that cushy run. You could not hope for anything better if you have the slightest hope of doing something in the final. Option 2: Go mega kamikaze early and finish tailed off. Start packing from home cause the RSPCA will probably come calling if you try running again in three days. No how many times I see decisions like this made it confounds me. |
|
By:
Surely something has to go wrong for anything other than Lenny or Philly to win the final? Lenny is the more bombproof for me
|
|
By:
Shane Graham just confirmed he has no idea in the big league. Never seen anything more ridiculous, and his horse was in rubbish form going in to the race!!
|
|
By:
Gavin Lang has got new teeth. Must be expecting to be smiling for a lot of photos !
|
|
By:
The final is random barrier draw right? There is ABSOLUTELY one goal and one goal only in these heats: Make the final while doing as little work as possible. Nobody cares about anything else. I thought that was drummed into harness folk from primary school onwards.
James Rattray was almost as bad and should scratch his horse from the series too. I was expecting this sort of stuff from the WA boys, not these two. |
|
By:
Khan it just all keeps playing into the hands of the two series favs
![]() |
|
By:
Yes it does. They'll now sleepwalk through the last heat while their 'dangers' (if there were any) will have to do decent work and it will be even more game over than it already is.
Gav was certain to sit back in that race no matter how slow the leaders went. They could have done what ever they wanted and out of hundreds of options they chose the second worst possible (galloping out, then charging back up three wide to destroy each other would have been worse). Things could not have gone better for Gav in the heats so far. He surely must be running out of morons willing to slaughter themselves for him but time will tell. |
|
By:
lol love your work Khan, couldn't agree more about the drive on Mach Alert too
and thanks Cracker, re Shakamaker |
|
By:
Lloydy take off the rose coloured glasses Avonnova was a god run but sat on Lovers Delight which was three wide without cover throughout and did not beat it home.
Khan you are obviously not on Twitter because form analysis and comments in plentiful supply through that medium on the Inters. |
|
By:
Ill be Backing Avonnova for Consolation
I didnt say Run of Race just was a good run and i was the 1st to say he is only a Claimer and got lucky a few years ago. I take that back and say what a great Job they have done with the horse. Its a 1 act affair for 1st and 2nd in Final |
|
By:
i gave your post 5 stars lloydy
who is clear 2nd pick? surely not philly, in my view both heats have been run to suit for him Lenny clear pick I agree with - danger My Hard Copy, has that finishing speed that often wins inter dom's |
|
By:
I think Philly clear 2nd pick
Classes above rest Has Gav on Lenny just has to turn up |
|
By:
Lloydy Keyang steamer in he truer tomorrow night, what price should it be in your opinion?
I thought 2.70 was fairly generous and have had something on it at that price |
|
By:
Chariots, I'm not on twitter. Have enough idiots babbling in my ear and since when do I confine myself to 140 characters?
Last heat markets seem to reflect the 'Lenny and PM will not be trying' factor but punters nearly always shrug this off and jump on anyway. Do this at your own great risk. In the old days these last heats were infamous for longshots trying 100% cause they're not making the final anyway and winning while the safe runners snoozed. Avonnova looks a good bet, as does anything that isn't Devendra and especially Mach Beauty in that race who are surely toasted. |

Some very good interviews with the major players available here:

By:
Lovers Delight is the other that may struggle to come up tonight, massive effort Tuesday night but how on earth do you get a horse back in 3 days after that sort of run???
The results tonight will almost certainly be overplayed by the media going into the final, you just know Gavin and Puppet will be out for the softest run possible. I almost guarantee there will be a winner of a heat tonight that people will start to talk up, without realising the big boys were not concerned with winning |
|
By:
Waylade can win inters for sure if he qualifys and draws well, first heat run was full of merit and excuses second heat,Devendra could also lead and win (is flying).
Shane Graham must be the worst driver in the country, disgustingly stupid drive on Mach Alert last start... |
|
By:
Also to note is that G.Hall jnr is the best driver of this track in Australia (no doubt at all).

Interviews are the usual meaningless fluff. Mach Beauty 'felt good in the run' as it led, got it easy, and was being passed by half the field. Okay....
One of the things that really annoys me about harness racing is that Mach Beauty will very probably insist on leading tonight, with Avonnova outside it, which means it's a million to one of winning. Their reasoning will be 'my horse goes best in front' and also 'that's what we always do'. One seconds thought makes it screamingly obvious that the horse is desperate for an easy run tonight and behind Avonnova would be absolutely ideal to give it any hope of doing anything on final night but.... you're dreaming. They will probably insist on leading, finish bottom three, and have absolutely zero horse left for Sunday week. I find the lack of brainpower that goes into these decisions very painful to watch when money is involved so won't be betting in that race. As for Keayang Steamer at Bankstown he obviously looks superbly placed, however the Bankstown track appears to operate in an alternate universe (some horses just don't handle it), and the Trueur is notorious for being a race where 2/3 of the field feel obliged to make a move at some point. In no way should you bet on this race expecting KS will lead or death seat and control the race for an easy win, the leaders are always made to earn it. Will be great to watch for sure. |
