Good for you Lance. I too, would tell them all to go feck themselves and their mothers. Been badgering the man for over 10 years and even in retirement they won't give up. No athlete in history has been drug tested as many times as him and they got nothing but bought testimony from very questionable 'teammates'
At some point you have to let go and just live your life don't you Castiron? The Tour titles aside, the man faced death and came through the other side, I think he understands life is very precious and doesn't want to spend any more of what's left of his life on this. Good for him I say.

I don't see it as caving in mate. Asked and answered over and over again from his perspective, he will always know who crossed the line first and quite frankly has better things to do than to play this out on repeat until the end of his days.

Agree with rhino what's the point people will believe what they want to believe, he should enjoy his retirement and his monumental feats will long live in my memory.

gotta agree here, if I played for Melb Storm, i could care less about losing the prmierships,
have the ring, have the memories, but in this case it was an accounting error, not really cheating IMHO

"There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough'. For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in winning my seven Tours since 1999. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a two-year federal criminal investigation followed by Travis Tygart's unconstitutional witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today - finished with this nonsense....
The bottom line is I played by the rules that were put in place by the UCI, WADA and USADA when I raced. The idea that athletes can be convicted today without positive A and B samples, under the same rules and procedures that apply to athletes with positive tests, perverts the system and creates a process where any begrudged ex-teammate can open a USADA case out of spite or for personal gain or a cheating cyclist can cut a sweetheart deal for themselves. It's an unfair approach, applied selectively, in opposition to all the rules. It's just not right.
"Today I turn the page. I will no longer address this issue, regardless of the circumstances. I will commit myself to the work I began before ever winning a single Tour de France title: serving people and families affected by cancer, especially those in underserved communities. This October, my Foundation will celebrate 15 years of service to cancer survivors and the milestone of raising nearly 500 million US dollars. We have a lot of work to do and I'm looking forward to an end to this pointless distraction. I have a responsibility to all those who have stepped forward to devote their time and energy to the cancer cause. I will not stop fighting for that mission.

Agree to disagree Castiron. Fact is though there is no way for you to know what the bottom line is for a man you have never met. Pure conjecture on your part that last statement.

People the guy put his money where mouth is a long time ago, unlike his detractors, and has done a lot of good and it's funny how all the agitators are convicted cheats.

I love the sport as a spectator and participant. I think he's a doper. His Livestrong foundation has done wonderful things, but of the $500m he claims to have raised, I wonder how much went to sustaining Livestrong and Lance Inc? (I say this as a cancer survivor).
I'm not a fan of the bloke, but mine's just one opinion in a billion.

cheers ted ... nice to see it in print ... lance was a legend regardless ... in a sport of some question
... i also see they will have difficulty choosing who would get the 'stripped' medals ... if that is the course they take
... 2003 appears the only year the rest of the placegetters were without tarnish themselves

Sometimes the lie is so big, that the truth can never be faced.
If he is innocent he has my sympathy. But if he has lived a lie, then oh what a wretched life he must endure.

Have defended Lance for years but it's getting very hard now, almost at the point of conceding. Still holding out the tiniest bit of hope he is innocent, the greatest sports story of them all looks like being a lie. Hard to take

People will still pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to see him. Sells plenty of papers Drugs or no Drugs done plenty of Good things. Will be remembered the Best ever and more Books to come.
The Other Lance got Stripped of an Inter and nothing happened to Him. Im still at Shock how that was swept under the Carpet

Cons: Cheated at a sport that everyone cheats at Pros: Raised millions to fight cancer and inspirational for many
I think if I'm guarding the Pearly Gates to Heaven, I probably still let him in. World has gone mad.

Winker he raised about $500 mil, a lot of cash for a great cause. As for the inspirational bit, that is the most upsetting part of all as there are a hell of a lot of shattered people out there now. I have never really held sports stars that high, I've had plenty of favourites sure but never looked up to them or idolised them, he was an exception. He was worth looking up to and telling your kids about... Very sad it's all a lie and even sadder that with everything I'm hearing, he is actually a vile man by the sounds of it.

If anybody gets a Chance watch Eddie Mcgauire Interview with Ben Johnston. What Ben Johnston say about Drugs and what all the Sponsors did to Cover up all the other athletes is the reason Nike become so big world wide. Its a brilliant Interview

The bottom line is I played by the rules that were put in place by the UCI, WADA and USADA when I raced.
That was the line that stood out to me.
Not "I never cheated", or "I never took performance enhancing drugs", just "I found a loophole in the system and got you on a technicality".
As for the ridiculous comment somewhere previous to this post that went something like "the people that are accusing him are all drug cheats", I think that actually adds to the case more than not. I mean, if people could not be convicted because the people putting them in it were taking drugs themselves, then there would be nobody in jail right now for drug use except the small timers. These people have a lot more to gain by staying out of the spotlight than remind everybody of who they are. Straight athletes would have no idea what Lance was doing, or it would this would have been over years ago.

I'll add to this in my view , isn't him overcoming cancer then taking these drugs infact make him an even field.
If he had ridden after just gotten over cancer (not taken any drugs) wouldn't he in someway be at a disadvantage ?
with the tole on the body cancer takes,
So he never rides again after overcoming cancer is there anyone that was riding that had overcome cancer?
we all seem to be forgetting he had cancer ? and the treatments that come with that ,
if anything the drugs would simply make him even with the playing field maybe not years after , but i'll give him his first wins even if he did take some sort of performance enhance
wont give him the last ones years down the track though.
I'll give him his first couple of wins performance enhancing or not.

Based on that? So you are an expert in the field and can confidently tell everybody that any performance enhancing drugs he took were dosed to 100% make him as he would have been?
Maybe the guys he beat had colds and merely took all their drugs to level the playing field?
What generally needs to be looked at in these situations is who gains what by this? Does anybody? Only thing is that a high percentage of the population becomes a little dulled and loses a little faith in humanity. Which to be fair, is a goal in many people in power. But if this were the case, they would have simply doctored the results and given it a conclusion, certainly not dragged it out for this long trying to find proof.

Hey BJT , I am quite competent in this field actually
radiation therapy actually is to destroy protein cells which cancer cells latch on to so this is muscle development
its breaking the protien latch which cancer loves so much and latches onto to grow ,
so we are talking about limited muscle growth no matter how much he worked out a year even after his theorpy if you or i wer to do weights next to him he would be at a disadvantage
as the point of chemo is to block the protein cells, growing the cancer
given it was in his lower half his legs ect, so it is absoultly an even field the first few wins
his body limited to intake protien from next person and still won

he deserves more than this , as i said i'm quite happy to take drugs to win his first wins
maybe not those years after he should have stopped years after
infact its quite amazing he could not gain any muscle mass but still win such a groling contest

Cycling Australia's vice-president Stephen Hodge has resigned from the board after revealing he took performance enhancing drugs.
In a letter to the board, Hodge admitted taking the drugs during one stage of his career.
The Canberra cyclist represented Australia and was regarded as one of the country's leading riders during the 1980s and the early 1990s before retiring in 1996.
He completed the Tour de France six times and represented Australia at 10 World Championships, as well as the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Hodge had been CA vice-president for the last five years and had been on CA's board since 1999 as the chairman of the Athletes Commission.
i guess we might see more of this from home & around the world now ... http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/15161874/cycling-australia-vice-president-admits-to-doping-resigns/Cycling Australia's vice-president Stephen Hodge has resigned from the board
