how could it ****n leave anywhere loaded up like that, especially in a supposedly life threatening situation
By:
still think it would be cheaper to buy every junk boat in indonesia and sink the lot.

They are not illegal refugees.
If we had spent the wasted billions, combined with other funding from countries in our region and the UN, in the last 12 years, on proper facilities, and faster processing, in the hell holes of camps in Indonessia and Malaysia. Combined with a greater intake. Then Asylum seekers could confidently know that they did not need to take the dangerous last leg of their journey, because they could be processed and distributed to various countries in the region, within 12 months. |
By:
The problem is that the conditions in the camps and the waiting time, is no incentive for them to wait 3, 4, 5 , 6, 7 years waiting to be processed. Fix that and less people will take the risk.
By:
I agree with AFL, they are not refugees they are escaping terrorists.
Like i have said before if they were decent people wanting to escaping they would not leave there families behind, they are cowards and mongrel dogs that should be treated as such. look and the facilities they have to use, no wonder they want to come here. http://www.avonadvocate.com.au/multimedia/42417/598154/inside-the-new-northam-detention-centre-photos-by-hannah-jenkins.aspx?Start=10&page=1 I still don't understand why they are just not put on a plane and flown home, would be cheaper. It takes 700 people to look after 600 terrorists in this centre. |

By:
what will Abbott do in the senate tomorrow??? pressure is on imo
boat was VERY overloaded, people must be incredibly desperate to get on |
By:
What will labor do Womble?? they have been all over the place on this issue. Contradictions on their policy but supposed to be running the country not Abbott.
bring back John Howard & he will solve ir |
By:
If they bought their families with them people like NO BS....would call them evil for risking their families lives.
Perhaps they come without their loved ones in the hope that they take the risk, and once settled, they can be reunited with their loved ones after they come by plane, some time after. |
By:
the entire asylum policy is repulsive to clear thinking people.
There would be no such problem if Rudd/Gilliard had followed the john howard policy. Instead they chose to reverse that policy out of sheer political bloodymindedness. We now have this result. As a country- as far as this goes, we are a total laughing stock. It is an insult to immigrant who came here via correct channels, waited in line, paid fees and waited. The current policy shows no respect for legitimate immigrants, all the while killing lowly educated third world people. Any supporter of the current policy is equally guilty. |

Labor got it wrong..simple!
Shame about the environment. |

The SieveX sunk in 2001 with 350 people losing their lives under Howard's policy. Just after the TAMPA.
He, Downer and Ruddick denied repeatedly that it sunk in international waters, saying it was Indonessia's responsibility as it sunk in their waters. They did this as it was in the months leading to the election and they feared that the refugees would get further compassion from the people and it highlighted the flaws in their policy. IT sunk in International waters, and the Gov't had access to a DFAT cable at the time confirming this. The cable was denied to the Senate Committee inquiry into the tragedy and became public 2 years later, confirming it sunk in international waters. |
By:
newsflash- this is 2012.
those people drowned today and a few days ago. their is no justification. dragging up something from 2001 is covered in the stench of political desperation. it is typical of the current govt to play politics instead of dealing with the problem. As I said Any supporter of the current policy is equally guilty. |
By:
AFL The 1st time I heard news of this latest boat going down was on SBS...this is the one with 200 on it....They said it was 50 miles of the Indonesian coast... thats what made me say that on here..Now the story has been changed..why would they do that?
By:
They do it Lazza because the media in this country is in bed with the govt.
They are compliant because the govt feeds them "copy" with which to fill their news bulletins and current affairs shows. Try turning on the news without seeing some pollie answering questions. Its impossible. Its all part of the spin machine. Thats why we need Gina to take fairfax. Of course you are right. Both boats sunk in Indo waters. But the dipstick Aussies went to the rescue post haste. The smarter indonesians were in " slower boats" {spin}. The media changes the location at the behest of the govt so it appears it was the Australians maritime duty to go to the rescue. |
By:
Yes, the first time i heard that story on the ABC, they said in Indonesian waters, they gave some rough co-ordinates and my ears pricked as it reminded me of where the Sievex sunk, in International waters.
Sometimes there is some confusion as to the exact location of these because you have the Indonesians giving info out to their media, and the Australians also. But with the Howard one the DFAT cable matched other info and there is no dispute that it sunk in International waters. They hid it because the BORDER PROTECTION election was due in a few months. |
By:
That's what I thought MrB...and I believe that to be the truth.. We are fools..I've yet to see Indonesia jump in in anyway and help...yet we are accused of Murder at the drop of a hat because a seeker drives his boat onto the rocks ffs.
It was also proven that seekers were waiting for the change of Govt in Australia..They are way smarter than we think...Wake Up!! FFS!! |
By:
there was no confusion in the original reports. The boat was solidly in Indo waters.
Any other assertion is political spin. Christmas Island is 500 km (310 mi) south of Indonesia and about 2,600 km (1,600 mi) northwest of Perth. |
By:
government was originally told the boat was 2 miles off Christmas Island - that became a hundred plus later
sad thing is plenty of Australian's couldn't give a rats what happens to the boats or the people on them as long as don't come here ![]() ![]() ![]() |
By:
Anyone watching dumb drunk and racist on ABC 2
![]() |
By:
Get this info on christmas island
Transfer to Australia At Australia's request, the United Kingdom transferred sovereignty to Australia; in 1957, the Australian government paid the government of Singapore £2.9 million in compensation, a figure based mainly on an estimated value of the phosphate forgone by Singapore. Ethnic groups 70% Chinese, 20% European, 10% Malay Population - 2009 estimate 1,402[1] |
By:
For the truth about what happened with the SIEVEX I recommend reading..
A CERTAIN MARITIME INCIDENT by Tony Kevin. Lazza you will find enough conspiracy's to last a lifetime in that book. ![]() |
By:
Thats not true Womble...Don't put words in my mouth please... Why didnt they come when Howard was in???? ...because they're they are smart... and you pull the racist card whenever someone says something against it.
By:
womble- the saddest thing is that it is as a result of political bloodymindedness that has created a market for criminals to exploit desperate people and we are compliant in that criminal activity.
By:
under howards pacific solution, 3 boats arrived in 2 years with small numbers.
By:
So 350 dead with the SIEVEX during HOWARDS TIME is OK is it?
By:
AFL you are nothing more than political spin.
You have zero interest in stopping the problem. The problem is NOW.NOW.NOW. |
By:
playing politics about howard is quite pathetic actually.
you are a sad individual. |
By:
How many boats did Howard turn back that tried to get here, that went missing after they were turned around?
But were not counted as arrivals. Plenty still tried. So the pull factors were still there, they only counted the ones that actually made it. |
By:
again- this is 2012.
By:
AFL..If they want to take the risk ..it's up to them.. We can't fix all the problems in the World let alone in our own area ffs... But don't blame anyone for their risk taking.
Why don't they go to Greece and try to get in there...Cause they're smart...We have an immigration system!!! |
By:
Did the SIEVE X happen whilst Howard was in Gov't?
By:
what hapened to asylum seeker numbers worldwide in the Howard years???
Lazza - i didn't say you - i said "plenty of Australians" |
By:
your credibility has hit a new low AFL.
By:
womble, AFL, Gilliard- trying to justify their actions by comparing themselves to howard.
Worse than pathetic. Thats why their is a failure to deal with todays problem Todays problem is nothing to do with howard. Try dealing with the truth for a change. opps yhats right, the truth is a "non word" to Gilllard supporters. The both of you are a disgrace to humanity. |
By:
again i say, it would be cheaper to buy every junk boat in indonesia and sink the lot.
they cant walk on water. |
By:
Mrben i do not support the current policy, i support the Green policy on this issue. But because of the recent drownings i would also support the Malaysian alternative if it had a time limit to re assess.
I would support it because it would act as a deterrent to the boat trips, but it would put some focus on the Malaysians also to improve conditions, and help to quicken the process in the whole region. It could possibly be a step toward a solution for the whole region. |
By:
your right megsy. It would be cheaper.Instead we "donate" north of 300 million I think it is to indo.
We are financing the criminals. |
By:
This is costing us a fortune...yes Megs it would be cheaper...The Govt is out of control on this and can't rectify it... no confidence in these people at all Im sorry to say.
By:
AFl- the best solution is to stop the boats altogether.
That won't happen because it means, politically speaking, that Gilliard would have to concede that howards policy was right all along. Politics just stinks in this country. We, the citizens are all suffering.Third world desperate are now suffering also. Gillard and Abbott are both political nightmares. |
