and i really enjoyed hearing robert johnson's original again

johnson was dead at 27 years of age in 1938

... his legacy to the blues was finally picked up in the 60's and he became more widely known through the english blues explosion from bands such as Cream (who re-recorded his epic 'Crossroads')

Last year, I visited his gravesite in Greenwood Mississipi and have some soil from his grave stored in a Pepsi Max bottle

(they did release van's tb sheets album earlier than astral weeks ... but it was a compilation album .. whereas astral was his first solo release concept album all the way from track one to track z)

he had a girl playing drums ... and an upright double bass rather than an electric shoulder strap bass

"The Rolling Stones went back to their roots one amazing night in 1981 at the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago playing with their hero Muddy Waters. The intimate evening jam was released for the first time by Eagle Vision as Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones: Live at the Checkerboard Lounge, Chicago 1981.

The Checkerboard is a tiny place next to some of the places the Stones play, so from the outset, you can see this isn’t going to be an ordinary night. Muddy Waters’ band opens the show, then two songs in, the man himself joins the group and they begin playing a burning set of blues.

During “Baby, Please Don’t Go,” Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Ian Stewart make their way into the club. The audience roars as they see the group come in. Shortly thereafter, Muddy Waters calls Jagger to join him on stage. Jagger comes up and a historical blues summit begins to take place.

“What about Keith?,” Waters says, and Richards joins them and straps on a guitar, cigarette dangling from his mouth. Ron Wood follows him to the stage soon after.

The focus stays on the blues through the whole set. There are no Stones songs here. Though Jagger doesn’t stay at the mike the entire time, Richards and Wood continue to play.

The songs include “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “Long Distance Call” and “Mannish Boy.”

The set also includes contributions from Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Stones pianist Ian Stewart."

"Blue Turns to Grey" is a song that was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song first appeared in February 1965 when both **** and Dee Dee and The Mighty Avengers released versions of it. Another version was released shortly thereafter by Tracey Dey on Amy Records. It was released by The Rolling Stones on their 1965 album December's Children (And Everybody's) later that year.

It became a hit (peak #15) in the UK when remade by Cliff Richard and the Shadows[1][2] in 1966 (b/w "Somebody Loses" (Tepper/Bennett), released 18 March 1966).
