- Broadband Network for $4.7 billion – replaced by $43 billion plan
- Broadband Tender Process - $20 million wasted
- Broadband Business Plan – paid consultants $25 million, but hidden from public view.

But he praises and accepts mediocrity - I don't understand why we should reward a government who's legacy to date has been chronic waste, massive debt and disasterous-bungled-projects.

It's just not good enough.

Rest assured that the Coalition will continue to ferociously keep this government to account - a government that hasn't "moved forward" from the day the PM announced it had "lost its way".

From all accounts this government is labouring - excuse the pun - its just cruising along trying to claim credit for saving us from the GFC whilst making fanciful promises, delivering nothing, wasting billions and making stuff-up after stuff-up.

Australian's deserve better.

You obviously have missed a few my posts over the years.

I was always critical of John Howard with tax reform.  I believe the GST was only half-heartedly introduced.  He didn't have the political guts to go further and introduce the system properly

I also disagreed with Work Choices - and made my voice heard at my local Lib meetings - I had an issue with the way it was introduced and promoted.  I mean, they should have ran a campaign similar to the GST on it AND The fairness test should have ALWAYS been an element to the reform.

At least Howard had six months knowing that the strong-seat-campaign underway in Bennelong would potentially wipe him out.

Rudd had know idea.  His own party caved in on him.  Put his head on the chopping block for all to see.

I think I'd prefer to lose an election after 11 and half years and being the second longest serving PM with a long-list of achievements - that would do me just fine.

Either way, thats politics.

Jez - Howard and Costello got billions in extra revenue from the mining boom - where is all the infrastructure they built with it??? 

In only 3 years we have new school buildings, new housing stock and the starts of the NBN which will be the biggest single infrastructure roll out since who knows when

Most importantly, we have unemployment at just over 5% and debt at a level of GDP that most countries dream of despite the tax revenue being well down due to the GFC

You will see that with redistributions and demographics changes Bennelong has become a marginal Liberal seat - it is certainly not a Liberal stronghold ANYMORE.

It's a Liberal marginal seat - it'll be inplay at the next election.

Howard did well (obviously helped by being PM) to retain the seat for the time he need, considering the drastic changes occuring within the last 5 years of his incumbency.

re the seat of bennelong and some here who are clearly ignorant of the facts.

bennelong in the 70's  was centred around the lower north shore of sydney.It included areas such as crows nest and lane cove which were populated with city office workers and business people.It was as white collar as an area can get.It was about as blue ribbon as things can get in sydney.
  As time moved on so did the boundaries of the electorate.It moved away from the lower north shore and moved increasingly to the northern suburbs,which is essentially towards, but not as far as parramatta.Parra being a blue collar area.
  Less and less of the electorate was white collar and more and more was blue collar.I'm not sure which year eastwood was incorporated.Eastwood is the chinese centre of sydney now.It is an area chockers with asian immigrants, chinese, koreans mainly.Many of these immigrants are staunch labor voters as the are deep blue collar workers.
  The infamous "dance" of McKew was in eastwood plaza.

It was simply astounding that howard held onto the seat at all given its blue collar conversion. What is further astounding is that Labor failed to hold onto it after a single victory.

    And before the experts from Victoria seek to dispute these FACTS with shallow and disparaging comments,I grew up in lane cove and was living in eastwood in the early 2000's.

   That should put an end to any assertions that bennelong  is in a blue ribbon liberal area.

Whilst the Kevin07 machine lost its way according to Gillard - but her government continues, STILL,  on the Rudd agenda and the principles remain the same - all talk, no action - all spin, no substance.

From health reform, to legimiate action on the environment, to stronger border policy and tough laws against people smuggling....

We're still waiting, Labor[>o][>o][>o]

The Gillard Government is agendaless, directionless and without leadership - the nation deserves better - and I seriously think , this early out, this government is in deep deep trouble.

I'm optimistic about the future.

The longer this shambolic Labor administration trundles along the clearer it becomes.....

Tony Abbott will become Prime Minister as this government falls at the next election or sooner.

wombleoz and other comrades will tell you otherwise, but Gillard's brand is already trashed.  This government has zero political capital in the bank.  The Labor record is clear and stark.  The hung parliament complicates Labor's position, politically.

A half reasonable year in 2011 won't be enough and the carbon tax opportunity has passed - again wombleoz and comrades will squark otherwise - it will (if passed and legislated by Labor) politically poison the Gillard government - slowly but surely.

The Coalition, under the strong and clear leadership of Tony Abbott has a simple message: lower taxes, fairer welfare, better services and stronger borders.

And rest assured the policy agenda will become even stronger and the ideas will flourish in the coming 6-12 months.
