A rather abysmal way to end the month for Mugatpura but he got there. Congrats to the other promotees and thanks Reg.

A month of lead-swapping drama at the summit, with consistency ultimately proving superior to occasional brilliance. But there were some last day fireworks, not from our leaders but a couple of wannabes who barged their way into the places with last-ditch winners! Twiffic! Gold: Mugatpura The month's dominant force. Four winners in the first week set the tone, especially the 9/1 on the first day. It was emough for him to survive a mid-term wobble and his month is distinguished by the fact that he never fell below second. There was a fascinating ding-dong battle towards the end but Mugsy kept his nerve to triumph. A master of grinding it out. Silver: Hyakutake The comeback kid. Languished in the lower reaches at the start but an 11/1 in the second week followed by a 17/2 nine days later propelled him to second, where he stayed until the end barring a couple of brief stints on top. He tried but couldn't keep up the pressure on Mugsy so had to settle for second best. Bronze: Stocks An 11/1 on day one augured well, but he couldn't keep up the pace and by this morning was looking destined to end an also-ran. But with his last throw of the dice he landed Monhammer at 5/1 to scuttle into third! Soopah! 4th: Mitchell The other last-day surprise, his month distinguished by a few decent scores, notably a 9/1 in week two, but by the end he seemed to have run out of steam until Marhaba Ya Tayib at 15/2, highest score of the day, shot him up to fourth. Well done that man. 5th: Bill Watson What a phenominal strike rate - 81% give or take, unsuprisingly the highest of the month. Only four losers out of the 21 selections he made. Wowsers! Maybe there should be a special prize for that, but as it is he made promotion by the skin of his teeth - because his scores were invariably shorties. Little and often sort of works, but it's no guarantee. It was intriguing to watch for a while as he and stablemate Caro Kann looked as if they were conjoined twins. But Bill assures me they enjoy "an intense rivalry", one in which Bill clearly came out on top this month. Hard luck everyone else but thanks to you all for making this a terrific month's competition, even though the returns were maybe not so great. Special mention to the day's other winner, madhatter, who bagged Votadini at 100/30 to shoot up to 10th. Hope y'all return refreshed for another ding-dong month, except sadly top2rated, who is sadly leaving us. A great comp veteran, I'm very sorry to see him go. On to October! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Thanks for all your hard work Reg and congrats to the promoted 5. Sorry to Halcyon Days because I backed your nap which is almost certainly why it got beat. Looking forward to October expect to see some Philip Hobbs horses napped. Good luck all.
