I said fifth place would be interesting, and so it turned out. But it didn't matter because sixth, seventh and eighth places were equally interesting with retirements upstairs turning them into promotion spots! So the big winner of the day is a little less dramatic than it might have been. But first, I say above how I am both happy and sad to see our departures, none more so than our very worthy champion tictacman1. He reigns supreme with £21 to his name off a modest 10% strike rate - quality trumping quantity. Three winners all month, but two of them were out of this world, an 18/1 ten days ago and the monstrous 25/1 six days later. Couldn't happen to a finer gentleman. Superbulous! ![]() ![]() ![]() For once we have two sharing the silver medal: stablemates Sergeant Attarms and Theresa Croude, with rather different methodologies. Our sergeant ground it out with a highly respectable strike rate of nearly 46%, a relentless string of short-priced returns (we'll gloss over the 1/50!) capped by a 15/2 a week ago. Last week was a dud though. Our Theresa, by contrast, built hers on bigger prices: a still very handy 39% strike rate but with two 6/1s and a 5/1 in the mix. ![]() ![]() Fourth-placed Ricky Santini led for more than a week in the early part of the month, with a 6/1 his standout, but will rue the fall-off in form in the second half. ![]() And then we come to fifth, which looked the contentious one overnight. That was finally occupied in some style today by JRAS with American Affair at a stonking 12/1 - up 10 whole places. He already had a few choice winners to shout home about but this last-day gamble took the biscuit. ![]() ![]() Also making it into the expanded transportation zone: Broadway nudged out of fifth but still with an outstanding 73.7% strike rate - the best of the month by far - built mostly on short prices but headlined by a 10/1 in the first week; Lieutenant Pigeon in seventh mixed it up nicely too, with an 11/2 the highlight among a string of winners; jimnast completes the list, his best price a smart 7/1. ![]() Honourable mentions for undecided, who had a miserable month apart from a great 20/1 a week ago, and Even Steven with a 48% strike rate - the second-best - yet still in the red. Tells us something? And a mention for today's other winners: Bill Watson with a 2/1, Catalina with a 6/4 and Darley Abbey with a shortie. What a team! Thanks to all for making this such a spirited competition and hope very much to see you back in action for August. And thanks as ever for all your kind messages. ![]() | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
