For once Major Ballsup does not live up to his monicker. After a few shorties left him languishing in the pit of everlasting despair, he's finally come up with a bigun - Venusienne at a thumping 11/1. You'd think a result like that would catapult him to the promised land, but such is the dire state of affairs down below that it only lifted him five to 20th. Still, there's two days to bag another couple to send him to heaven! Great pick anyway!

Elsewhere, Theresa Croude's gone a bit quiet this last week or so but woke up today with a fine 3/1 on Boilermaker to put her up into joint second. Our leader ticcy doesn't seem too alarmed, however!

Grunfeld climbs to ninth and madhatter to 19th with 2/1s

while a shortie carries Even Steven to 13th.
