A month with a surprising haul of big prices, a title race that went to the wire, and a final day that reshuffled the promotion pack in the last furlong with a big surprise entry! Well it was mad May! ![]() So top congrats to our esteemed May champion, Borrelly. Patient, relentless and ultimately unstoppable. He didn't lead the division until week four, but started his build-up from the get-go with winners on the first two days, including a 9/1, and a brace of winners in week two, one a 10/1. In fact you could call it a belt and braces campaign as his third set of winners, a 6/1 and 13/2, also came on consecutive days! Suddenly there were pennies in it. On the 22nd he seized the summit with the cunning trick of taking the day off, ahead by just 13p. But he held on grimly until settling it in style today with Al Hussar at a plump 13/2 to finish more than £10 ahead of his rival with a bank of just over £22. Superbulous! ![]() ![]() ![]() That rival, of course, was comp veteran top2rated, who swept to the front on day tep with a magnificent 28/1. An 11/1 on the 18th briefly suggested the title was wrapped up with a £13.50 cushion. But successive losing days meant the lead slowly dissolved (and it should be noted that top2 posted every single day). Still, second place, promoted, and two of the division's biggest winners signifies a job very well done. ![]() ![]() Taking bronze is Levy, with three double-figure winners spread across the month - 12/1, 10/1 and a decisive 14/1 that fired him up eight places in a single move. Never in the title conversation but never in danger of missing promotion either. ![]() Well done also to Shoemaker in fourth. He very nearly gate-crashed the title race with an early 11/1, then a 9/2 and 10/1 mid-month that briefly shot him to second, £1.50 behind the leader and threatening to make it a three-way fight. His two winners since, however, were not enough to keep up the challenge. ![]() And a humungous well-done to last-day super-striker penzance. Sitting outside the places for virtually the entire month, he began his push with an 11/1 in the third week, but with one day to go and just a couple more modest winners under his belt, he looked set to finish no better than sixth or seventh. At the last gasp Dazzling Haze won for him at a pulsating 12/1 at Thirsk, shooting him up five to - fifth! Just shows the virtues of going for it on the final day! ![]() I should also just mention Lampus, with the month's highest strike rate of 56%. But the winners included a lot of short ones and he fell short, just about breaking even. ![]() Hard luck to those who didn't make it, but huge thanks to all for taking part, and thanks for all your messages. Really hope to see you in joyful June! ![]() | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
