There was a minor flurry of last-day winners among our leaders but they made virtually no difference to the outcome. Hardly surprising when numbers one and two were so far ahead in the first place.

There was virtually no chance of our very worthy champion and esteemed settler Longshot Louie being caught after he landed that outrageous 125/1 shot on day four. Since then he's been content to land the occasional odds-on to keep his hand in, including one today, and ends the month with a remarkable profit of £115 and a pretty high strike rate of almost 43%. Phew what a scorcher. Huge congratulations on a stellar performance.

For more than half the month raspberrybottom toiled in vain. Then suddenly he found a rich vein of form which included 16/1 and 11/1 winners and a final profit of £20 to sit comfortably in second. Superbulous.

Fortismere will be swapping places with his stablemate Wonder Boy after nipping into third today with French Paradoxe  at 3/1. Steady and often was his watchword.

The same could be said of newcomer Tony Corleone, who ended down in fourth despite a 13/8 today. He recorded the month's highest strike rate of nearly 53%.

And finally, a big well done to our old friend madhatter - despite all his late calls - who makes it up in fifth. A bittersweet departure.
