The Rules

There will be 7 fortnightly rounds, 14 weeks in total.
Each round and each week within rounds will begin on a Sunday and finish on a Saturday.
Each team will have 8 selections per week, one from each player, duplicate selections are allowed but no duplicate selections within teams at any time. Players must use their 1 selection per week, it cannot be carried over to the other week in the round.
10pts win or 5pts EW on British, Irish & French racing, selected any day, Sunday through Saturday, the week ends on the last Saturday race.
Settled at SP, EW terms as industry standard.
Selections must be posted before race time. On Saturdays there will be a 3pm cut-off for selections, that is you may pick in any race after that but it has to be posted by 3pm.
Once you have posted a selection you are not allowed to change it or the stake, unless it becomes a non-runner or is a duplicate.
Non Runners - that team member may choose again for that week.
If you are selecting in a race on Saturday, in the event of a non-runner, you will automatically have 10pts win on the fav in the same race as your selection.
However, you may replace your non-runner with any new selection, provided you do so prior to the race time of the original selection and adhere to the Saturday 3pm cut-off.
If there are jt or co-favs then lowest racecard no. is chosen.
Reserve selections are not allowed, nor is posting "just-in-case"  selections for team mates that may or may not turn up.

Wildcards are available to cover holiday or other absence and covering for non-runners.
Team captains will be responsible for managing any wildcards required, there are no restrictions on their use, but please try and share them around so that no one individual is always claiming them. Please also name who the wildcard is for when posting.

Teams will start the week from a baseline of 0pts. This equates to 8 losing selections and/or non-selections.
Subsequent scores will be added to this baseline plus return of the winning part of the stake (10pts for win and EW winner, 5pts for EW placed). All scores count.
Scores will be accumulated through the fortnight, there will be no points awarded for weekly finishing positions.

Points structure for overall comp:
Fortnightly winners will receive 12pts, runners-up - 8pts, 3rd - 6pts, 4th - 4pts, 5th - 3pts, 6th - 2pts, 7th - 1pt

I think it's only 1 person doing that. I think it's legitimate but not great tactics. This isn't the Premiership,the only thing that matters is winning the thing : there is no relegation.
I and others,who often go odds-on in the Premiership,rarely use the same tactics in this comp.
Quite seriously I am hoping to find a suitable 10-1 shot to put THE HUMBUGS into a challenging position.

Guys its quite easy to put up what you think is a 6/4 shot in the morning and be on a 4/6 shot come race time because of withdrawals. Concentrate on your own selections because intentionally choosing 1/4 shots isn't going to win anything IMVHO.

It's the inclusion of the stake that's wrong!

Firstly, just to make clear, on the win side, the scoring system here is the same as the naps league. The only difference, is the way I show the scores. 1/4 winner here gets 12.50 against a loser getting zero. In the naps it's 2.50 against -10 (stake adjusted), same difference.
Not including stake back will not make any difference to winning selections in terms of the difference in scores.
Placed selections differ. A 6/1 place at quarter odds gets you 12.50, same as the 1/4 winner. If you disregard stakes then you would get 7.50 for the place as against 2.50 for the winner.
You know sometimes you do things a certain way for so long you need a little nudge. I can see that placed selections are disadvantaged under the current system.
I hate to substantially change things mid-flow but if I ran this again next year I would probably sort this place scoring anomaly.

Yes, surely that's what happens when you have a bet?

If you have a 25/10 a winner, you win 25,

If you have a 2.50/10 a winner, you win 2.50

If you have 10 on a loser, you lose 10

All I have done for reasons I considered way back when I first conceived the comp is to have a baseline of 0 rather than -80 for all 8 losing selections. So stake is not removed for losers therefore it's not removed for winners (apart from the place anomaly).

Regarding the message I posted on each team thread about possible change to scoring, I won't be doing anything for this next round as I don't want to rush it.
I've had it brought to my attention that giving full stake back on placed horses may encourage negative ew betting on odds-on shots as it's an "easy" 10pts return.
Now I personally don't think it's much of an issue as few participants aim for these "sure things" but how do you feel about it?

Might we be better off ignoring the stake altogether so only profits count and losers don't go -10?

If you bet each way,you do not expect a return on the win part,if your horse is placed only.

No problem people sticking up real shorties,again there are punters that see these horses as value.
