As for dunter, we may give it one more try to get his attention or try and get someone else in straight away, I don't mind which.

Swiss Army Officer 5-30 Roscommon 5 pts ew

Glad myself to actually pick a winner at last, even at the paltry oddsLaugh Faisal looks a decent horse, not sure what he's beating, but he's got an engine

Was hoping it would get us into 2nd place, but nevermind

Good work cap'n!!!!

Al Salt - 4.15 Ascot - win for ... the MOB!

Haggas 3yo - history tells us 3yo's do very well in this race getting their allowance (every Autumn is the same imho) and I liked him even before that stat. The other 3yo's are opposable. He's a massive 2/1 shot - woot woot!

I am putting this up on all team threads to hopefully get your agreement to a scoring change, mid-competition, something I don't like doing but I think in this case it warrants it.
The scoring method I use gives back 10pts stake to winners, and doesn't take it off losers, so it makes no difference to winning Win or EW selections.
Where the selection is placed, I have been only giving back the 5pts place part of the stake, so the 5pts win stake is deducted but really shouldn't be.

So for example
Current scoring
1/4 winner gets 12.50 (2.50 profit plus 10pts stake back)
6/1 placed at quarter odds gets 12.50 (7.50 profit plus 5pts stake back)

Proposed scoring
1/4 winner gets 12.50 (2.50 profit plus 10pts stake back)
6/1 placed at quarter odds gets 17.50 (7.50 profit plus 10pts stake back)

There has been a question on why I give the stake back. I wanted to keep the week's scoring baseline at zero rather than work with minuses for losses.
So a team with 8 non-selections or losing selections stays on zero rather than -80, it's just tidier in my opinion and makes no material difference to scoring other than the place anomaly.

Personally I don't agree with it - at all. The rules are set - the teams have started on a set of rules that have run for numerous comps.

Stand firm UD and GL.

What you can do in future is have win, eway (settle as now) and have place only full stake returned. But do that in the next comp after this one has ruled its course.

You also will see people backing 1/4 shots eway!!! - did u think of that?
Crazy and I would do this!
By:

When: 04 Sep 20 14:49
Ming, thank you for your thoughts, I would normally not change mid-flow but this is just wrong, think about it, a losing selection gets nothing deducted, whereas a placed selection gets 5pts taken off in effect.
By:
undecided
When: 04 Sep 20 14:51
and this is not about 1/4 shots win or ew, that may have sparked this discussion but it's about fairness for ew backers not penalising odd-on.

Hi UD,

It took me a while to understand your logic. Grin

Currently an eway bet is split - so in essence if you:-
a/ lose then the result is 0 (nothing deducted)
b/ a place gets 5pts (half the stake at whatever odds) & the win selection part of this bet has lost and is 0
c/ wins - etc.....

you propose that the loss on the win part of a bet (b) is paid out (worth 5). .

This is illogical - players would back eway on the 1/4 shots MORE often. Your 'new way' rewards eway backers and will punish win backers. Unless you refund 5 to the win backer... if it gets placed...  lar de dar - logic starts to get really warped from there.....

Good luck UD and my utmost respect to you as always..

Not easy is it Ming, I see your point that a 1/4 place would get 10pts plus the pennies profit, the likes of Norfolk would have a fit.
