Farcical situation today for nappers & some settlers If Meydan was allowed as part of the (carnival/festival)then all should have picked from there But now it is being said it was optional So no pound lost if no selection made
Rules need clarification

madhatter • March 1, 2018 7:47 PM GMT Why dont we just stick with UK and Irish Racing?
No need for Meydan, Dubai or Arc. Where do you draw the line? If we cover the three international ones above then why not Breeders/Japan/Hong Kong/Melbourne Cups? Or do we already do some of these? If there are no UK or Irish meetings would we begrudge the settlers a day off?
I for one (and I would think there are many others) don't have much interest in any racing outside of UK/EIRE and wouldn't expect to have to pick a nap selection from halfway round the world.

I knew **** all about being allowed to post in Meydan & unlike some I don't sit and watch whose posting what every 5 minutes. Where is this rule meant to be stated etc anyone?

Rule 2. Except that the Festival has been renamed the Carnival and there is some confusion as to which meetings are included in it. I am inclined to agree with madhatter ( without the s )

To be honest I thought the Meydan festival was still just 2 or 3 days racing at the end of their season. If it has been replaced by the "Carnival" then I would say that's not the same thing and I don't see the need to keep it. Especially if that means now the majority of Meydan meetings qualify and I'm going to have to check everytime somebody selects a Meydan runner whether or not it's a Carnival meeting.

salmon there are meetings at Moonee Valley and the Sunshine Coast tomorrow, they may or may not fall within the Rules of the Competition but why don't you and I take our chances, pick a banker from those meetings and see if it qualifies as a winner on here.

Yes I definitely agree. 11 days of Meydan is rather different from one day of the Arc meeting. I am an afficionado of US racing so would argue 2 days of the Breeders Cup would be more appropriate as well. However I think Shane is on the right track. We should ditch everything outside the British Isles.

Settlers need to get their heads together and nip this in the bud once and for all from next month as people are just making rules up as they go along ...... or so it seems.
The latest one doing the rounds today is that Southwells card should be treated as a Sunday/optional day as it is solely a nh bumpers card put on at short notice ..... ffs where does it all end its a British race meeting where selections can either be made or not such is your choice - simply take a rest day if its that important to you. Regards the (non)Meydan fiasco yesterday no one who took advantage of making a selection broke any rules as they stand as far as I can see so wheres the problem - for the record I didn't benefit in any way but don't begrudge anyone who had a go and benefitted from it.
At end of the day its meant to be a FUN competition played in fair spirits by all and yet we don't seem to give a flying fcuk what settlers have to put up with day in day out trying to keep everyone happy #justsayinglike

Reged 02 Mar 18 10:32 but I agree with you china, would be better not to have it at all and I'd throw in Longchamps as well. Keep it strict UK and Ireland
Works for me also. Let's do it, starting next month.

3 of the settlers have agreed to ditch all racing other than British Isles after this month. I agree with that. The Southwell thing sounds silly to me,it has been on for some days.

Meydan/Dubai was included back when there were quality horses racing there all through January & February when there were fewer AW meetings to compensate lost Jumps meetings.
Nowadays most of Meydan is poor and wouldn't be missed by most so by all means get rid if it makes things simpler.

All 4 settlers seem to have agreed that from next month only GB and Ireland count. That seems very sensible to me but in the meantime the Meydan Carnival meetings will have to count (Imvho of course ) as I don't think you can change the rules after the month has started. Sorry but there is just one further point. A few years ago there was no racing in GB but a meeting in Ireland was on. I THINK the settlers then decided it was a rest day,or just possibly that Sunday rules applied. Perhaps to put a lid on this THAT could be clarified. Soz. I am a compulsive control freak as some will have realised, certainly Lampus and shearer who will remember the trawler.

Eee-by-gum- this is trip down memory lane. I used to be a settler/player myself back in the day - I created the original Division 3.
Does anyone remember my "Mullio Cup" - an FA Cup style head-to-head competition based on nominated Saturday horse races?
I do love a good old reminisce

And I remember the lay-a-day knockouts were also very good. Reged did a fine one and there was someone else before him who also ran one.
I too was a settler for a short while (did Premiership for about six months some ten years ago at least by now I think) before work committments forced me to give it up. I remember when I joined the Naps Compy I was in the now defunct Conference Division back in about 2006 I would think and the settler was called Sandy B.
Best ever thread on the Horse Racing forum was the year long live betting account by Mrs Henny Pedget with all selections proofed to the forum prior to each days racing. She (?) specialised in place laying, often three or even four in the same race and turned a tidy profit in both the place lays and the win bets that she also put up.
Steven Trainbairn [?] was also a fine tipster.

They were great days madhatter. I often bump into people at the races now and they say, "Years ago,I was so-and-so on the Betfair forums". Janov had to be my all time favourite -plus Pattyschnyderduetoexplode on the Tennis.

Do you mean KC's lay a day or my old Lay Competition? Here are mine:
Rules:
- Each day of the competition is a fence to be jumped by picking a single successful lay
- If the lay selection wins its race you will be deemed a faller and eliminated
- All lays must be 7.0 or below on Betfair at the time of posting (this WILL be checked although we ask contestants to put the BF lay price at time of posting next to their selection)
- Win lays only, no place lays
- GB and IRE meetings only
- Duplicate selections are allowed until only four or fewer runners are left in the race. At that point anyone who repeats a previous selection and fails to change it before the end of racing will be deemed a refusal
- Any runner who fails to post on any day will be eliminated as a refusal. The same applies to anyone who fails to replace a non-runner before the day's racing is finished. No exceptions
- Lays must be posted by OFFICIAL off time of the race concerned
- After the race has passed the first "fence" (ie day), no further entries will be allowed in that race.
- The competition will end when only one runner is left in the race, who will be awarded the 'gold medal'. Those coming second and third will be awarded silver and bronze medals
- In the event of two or more runners tying for a medal, the medal will be awarded to the runner with the highest return. In the event of there still being a tie the medals will be decided by the lowest average BSP on successful lays on all fences where there were four or more runners left in the race. Should there still be a tie it will be declared a dead heat and all who qualify will be awarded the medal
- Reserves are allowed to cover the possibility of non-runners
