Yawn. ITS A FCKING GAME. In my opinion so long has everyone has a selection a day, WHEREVER its come from, then the comp is fair. Unfortunately their are those in life who look for every angle to take advantage of others. Oh dear a 9/2 winner.
Report DeSSieReborn March 4, 2014 9:03 PM GMT
I'm sure there are lots of people, like me, who simply forget to post. If you want a FAIR challenge, then EVERYONE should have a selection per day. How many last race favs go in?? FFS change it to the outsider of the field in the last race if it stops them ****ing moping. Oh wait, when the 20/1 winner goes in in 50 weeks time there will be an outcry again.

I have no objections to LRF - in the long run it really hardly matters. But it is useful if you're on holiday and wake up midday with a hangover and don't have to scrabble around to post. Why not just limit it to 10 days a year instead of 10 days a month?

If it does get scrapped it's not too hard to write some code that will automatically post it anyway, though I'd rather do something more productive with my time.

Reged suggested i put this on here from the 'Scrap it thread'

The biggest joke with the comp. is not LRF or odds on naps it's the multi player sado's , currently 129 names in the 4 divisions but the reality is that actual individual persons amount to probably less than two thirds of the 129 players , laughable really.

Andrew in Sweden 04 Mar 14 19:03
Is it really a fair and democratic vote if posters are allowed to use their 'alter ego' identities (some have more than 2) ?

DeSSieReborn 04 Mar 14 23:00
Do I take it from this that some people are actually in the leagues more than once ie using more than one name??

Just popped on to have a read and i have to agree with the above poster who makes a very valid point -all a bit of a farce really isnt it .

IMHO 10 LRF a month is to many i'd reduce it to 3,4 or 5 a month max and if someone bags a 9/2 LRF like a few days ago then so be it , as said by others it's only a game , well for some of us it is but for the multi players it's clearly the highlight of their day  . Anyway must go as i've got a dozen naps to sort out Devil
Report Reged March 6, 2014 3:03 PM GMT
I really don't get this fuss over 'alter egos'. What IS the problem? If I had more than one BF ID and wanted to post for each of the ones I had, so what? There is, perhaps, more of a case to be made for people who post for those who are not members. Technically speaking you could come up with a thousand different names and put up selections for all of them. Wouldn't that make life interesting? Shocked This might be worth looking at. But only because it is a potential problem for the settlers, not for anyone else.  I couldn't give a moneys if Santa Claus and all his elves and reindeer wanted to have a go. What would interest me is if any of them were any good.

I don't know the reason why most who post for other identities do so, but I do know that shane posts for La Mallatiere. I  occasionally do it when shane's not around - LM emails me so I know he exists. And he lives in France where, apparently, he can't post to Betfair. Is this a problem for you guys? So how to distinguish a Mallatiere from some other poster's 'alter ego' that is simply made up. How would we find out? Question each one until they spill the truth? A BF version of the Spanish Inquisition perhaps? (cue 'No one expects etc ...)

Shane also posts for someone called Nijinsky. That at one time was his dad, not a BF member, but had an interest. His dad stopped doing it, but shane carried on, doing it himself. Is that such a terrible thing? Do you want to tell shane to stop it? Why? What harm is he doing? This is a free, fun comp. Try to get a sense of perspective guys please!

And ... if a selection can be posted for an 'alter ego' then most assuredly a vote can. Otherwise we are practicing a double standard.

Report madhatter March 8, 2014 8:33 AM GMT
If you don't post you shouldn't win.

Where is the sense in having a tipping competition where a napster gets 120 days where they have a horse picked for them (which is what LRF amounts to).

Let's not forget we all get another 50 days a years off for optional Sundays. So we have a Naps table wherein a player only has to pick a horse for roughly 50% of the time.......crazy!

However, no-one can be around to post every day so there should be a fixed number of days per year (with a limit set per month within this) to allow for this.

You score zero on these non-posting days until you exceed your monthly and/or yearly limit then you score -1 for each extra day.

Report man of many moods March 9, 2014 9:28 AM GMT
I had a very busy day yesterday. No time to look at the horses. So without doing any study whatsoever I simply picked the LRF at Wolverhampton. And it won, albeit at a skinny price.

I could have just posted the unnamed LRF at Wolverhampton. That would have counted as an Instruction.
I could have simply not posted and the Settler would have put me on the LRF at Wolverhampton (had there not been a later race in Ireland)
I could have emailed a Settler or another player and asked them to put me on the named LRF at Wolverhampton.

So what's the difference? That's the point which everyone seems to be missing. Scrapping it makes no difference to anything. Much easier and more transparent to keep things the way they are, and always have been.

Either way, I made no effort. It was one of those days when I was unable to post. That's why we have Instructions. That's why we've always had them. For just such days. And whether we keep them or not, I'll still be on the LRF when I can't post. So what's the point of getting rid of them? Absolutely none! It would be pointless.

Never has the expression "It ain't broke so don't fix it" been more relevant.

Have you considered my idea of just having those 60 free non-posting days per calendar year in a format where you take them when you want but no more than 10 per month?

It would make it easier for the annual fortnight holidays we tend to take and also for sudden family/computer issues.

If you take too many earlyish in the year end and so use them up too quickly then you have to make extra effort to post later in the year or lose 1 point for every day after your 60 allowance days have all gone.

My last word on the LRF.

At the moment if you can't post, your "bet" automatically goes onto the last race favourite, as if you had selected it.
If it loses you get -1. If it wins it gets paid as a winner.
What can possible be fairer than that?

It is true that there have been an abnormal number of LRF winners lately, and at unusually high prices too, but thats the same as all forms of gambling. You get winning streaks and losing streaks. It happens.

I still do not see what the problem is. We had a simple, fair system. If anyone can come up with something better then I will take one of my many hats off to them.

This is a free competition administered by people in their own time. Its just a bit of fun.

Oh, and scissors. I assume you "lost" some of that underwear.
Report madhatter March 16, 2014 2:13 PM GMT
Turn that argument around though JRAS...

Currently if I can't pick for whatever reason then I have to have the LRF instead of just having a non-selection. So I am forced into having my nap put up as a horse that I may not have even fancied to win had I been in a position to read up the form. If it wins I am lucky. If it loses I am unlucky. But in neither way is it actually fair. If it is counted as a 'free' non posting day neither of these scenarios occur.

But the bit that annoys me is the very essence of people still being given a horse when they can't be bothered to post.....can't say it's factual but there seems to be a lot more non-posters nowadays than there ever used to be before LRF was introduced.

a debate yes.  But it's turned into a mass debate. (a load of wa**)   It feels like it has gone round in a full circle about 20 times over. Our opinions have become same old, same old, boring, boring  (myself included) Yawn, yawn, yawn.
Settlers make a decision ASAP and wipe the ar** of this thread.
It's not my intention to offend anyone who has voiced their opinion but come on, we all must agree there is nothing more to be said on the subject "It HAS ALL BEEN SAID time and time again.
