be kind on a newbie please.

It's sod's law that having promised to be kind, I end up not being able to. Fortunately for THE-GHOST-OF-DICKIE-BIRD it doesn't actually make a difference, because his selection lost anyway. But I do feel very sorry about another newcomer who also fell foul of the 1-hour rule: tictacman1, because he picked a 7/2 winner today and should be sitting in joint third place. I should have spotted the errors when you guys posted and pointed them out, but it being the first day of the new year I was up to my eyes. So apologies Ghost and especially tictacman: I'd love to let you off with a caution, but I'd have everyone else down on me like a ton of bricks! I just hope this doesn't put you off continuing, as your contributions are much valued. Anyway, to emphasise the issue:

As stated in the rules, all selections must be posted at least one hour before the official start of the race.

Other newcomers, however, had a field day and top our table after the first day.  nijinsky01, who assures us he comes from t'south and therefore can be no relation to the person masquerading as our other Nij, who is known to us and possibly the authorities, and onehundredandeighty sit at the top after 4/1 winners, Even Stevens  and Mr Moonshine  respectively. Great start!

Steamship found an 11/4 winner to sit in fifth, one ahead of lead on, who is 11/8 to the good. And GEORGE.B, making a welcome return to this parish,  had an odds-on winner to kick off his campaign.

john.t and Pre-Fat-Low-Fat-Foods got the second-best nap of the day at 7/2 to sit in joint third, while it's nice to see SlippyBlue getting off to a quick start at 11/8 after last month's disappointment.

Anyway, happy new year to you all, and here's to a great napping start to 2014! Best of luck Thursday.
