petemac puts himself firmly in the promotion picture with 9/1 Beneffient in the 2m chase over in Ireland .

sixtwosix did well to find Rockyaboya at 7/1 in the big handicap chase at Leopardstown and seems to have escaped relegation this month.

Another with an excellent winner was bettysboy with Ma Filleule at 13/2 .

top2rated was on Give Us A Belle at 11/4 and twm stays just above the relegation spots with 11/8 Oriental Relation.

Just the one odds on winner.

Good luck tomorrow.  It will be four years to the day since my proudest day on a racecourse and I am told that a film crew are well on the way to completing a documentary film, part funded by the British Film Institute, of the story leading up to that day.  Its due to be released at a film festival in the Autumn and will hopefully be on Channel 4 after that.

I do thanks BB.  Apart from the Welsh National and running in the Grand National, I keep going back to the day he chased Denman home in the Hennessey, the place was buzzing after what Denamn did that day and it was just a privilege to have been part of it.  Also, having a suite named after him at Chepstow racecourse was special too.  He is now enjoying his retirement with other horses for company with Claire who looked after him at Philip Hobbs. Before Claire he was looked after Ian Popham and it is good to see him getting a few decent rides and winners now.

pete I got very lucky with my first go at racehorse ownership.  Through an old work colleague I joined a syndicate of 23 back in 2002, one of whom is a cleaner at Asda who had bred the horse on her allotment in South Wales with a mare that she had bought in a layby for £350.  We only paid in £40 a month each and all I was really hoping for was to win a minor race on the all weather.  The horse was Dream Alliance and he far exceeded what we could ever have hoped for, culminating in him winning the Welsh National four years ago on his second run back from a very serious injury when he severed a tendon.  The vets who operated on him never expected to see him back on a racecourse. 

It was all a bit surreal when three days after the Welsh National, I went down to South Wales to meet a Welsh film producer, who was based in Hollywood, and happened to be in Wales to see his family over Christmas.  Nothing ultimately came of that, but there is a documentary currently in production as I mentioned above.

FCH I remember the race well I backed the runner up Silver By Nature.
I really hope the Film is made and shown on Channel 4 it really is an unbelievable fairy tale story and you must be proud to be a part of it. I have just been looking at pictures of the syndicate with the horse after the race (are you given us a clue then?)
2009 was my best memory from horse racing as well with Mon Mome winning the Grand National after my Brother in Law in his final Months of Life (cancer) getting a Lucky 15 up and leaving instructions for me to put the lot on Mon Mome to win the Grand National 11 Months before it won. I never put the bet on until the day before the race and managed odds of between 150/1 and 180/1. You can still read about it by typing in Danny Shea/Mon Mome the photo shows my sister holding the bet slip he wrote which family and friends he wanted to share the winnings with (confident or what) that's my daughter next to my sister. I was in the next room i did not want to be seen in the papers smiling as I had just had some bad news about my wife. Really emotional day.

Hoping to see my favourite horse Goonyella win the Welsh Grand National today. Got an e/w antepost punt on him. What price would Salsify be carrying 10 stone 1 pound ? Goonyella not far behind him last season and only a 6 year old. Just behind Rockyaboya last time on better ground.Travels like a dream , jumps and stays . I think he could have won the Lexus today, doubts about all the runners in that one. If it comes up soft I think Goonyella could win the Gold Cup.

Anyway in case I have got it hopelessly wrong .

pete, great story re your late brother-in-law.  If that was published as fiction it would be said to be too far fetched, but life does bring up the remarkable at times.

Good luck with Goonyella sixtwosix, Welsh National winners can go on to win the Gold Cup.  My best ever ante-post bet was on Burrough Hill Lad at 33/1 after he cantered home in this race.

Very far fetched FCH but nothing compared to the Spooky events that came after the event.
Still sends a chill down my spine to this day.
I could write a book about it all starting in the previous years Grand National when it was my biggest bet when it finished 9th.
A magazine covered the story (my sister give the fees to a Cancer charity) but what we told them and what was actually published was a load of Boll****.
