NH BIG RACE COMP 2012/13 - Race 27 - Grand National

The Rules:

The competition will cover 30 (or so) of the most competitive races of the NH season.

A thread on which selections can be posted will be put up a couple of days before the race and selections can be made up to 1/2hr before race time.

Players are given 2 stake points per race.
Players can use the 2pts on 1 selection or share the 2pts between 2 selections, 1pt each.
Points will be awarded based on each selections finishing position down to 5th place.
Results will be settled at SP.

1st place will get stake x 14 x SP
2nd place will get stake x 7 x SP
3rd place will get stake x 4 x SP
4th place will get stake x 2 x SP
and 5th place will get stake x 1 x SP

Non-runners:
If you choose one selection, please nominate a reserve just in case of late withdrawal.
If you choose two selections and one is a non-runner, your 2pts will go on the remaining selection, unless you left a reserve.
In either case you can replace a non-runner as normal up to the 1/2hr cut-off time.
If you make a selection with no reserve, and it doesn't run, your 2pts will go on the favourite (in case of jt or co favs then the 2pts will go on the one which is highest in the hcap)

In the event of dispute, my decision will be final.

Anyone welcome to join at any time.

wow nice one bettysboy, hope you made a barrowload!

Well done winners but undecided 14 x stake then down to 7 and 4 seems to me to be a too big a drop in  difference maybe undecided if you decide to do it next year the winner should be reduced from 14 to 10?
I did back my 2 e/w Cappa Bleu a month ago and Teaforthree this morning the last twice i backed todays national winner it fell at the first fence i think in the Scottish national 2011 and recently fell again so did not fancy it to get over the aintree fences but a short head 2nd over the Scotish nat 2012 says it was never a 66/1 shot well done pebbles and bettys boy.

petemac, I've tried over the years to find a good balance, if you reduce the gap between 1st & 2nd it devalues finding the shorter price winners, the above is an extreme case but does I think add spice to the comp and keep it more open for longer.

I'd welcome other's views.

Yes i see your point UD at least if someone is way down struggling lets say Salmon for example having a couple of winners at 14X can get them back in the running so the interest will not dwindle.

U/D has obviously put a bit of thought into his scoring methods and I think it's just about right.
If he's welcoming suggestions for the winning selection to be rewarded then;

25/11/7/4/2/1 up to sixth place as opposed to five places and 14/7/4/2/1 - just a thought U/D

Undecided,a great competition it ain't broke so no need to fix it.
Everyone knows the rules and the scoring system before entering,so that is what you work to.
