That's what Lingfield were saying early on. A lot of snow forecast for the east of Ireland later.

If Lingfield get what we've got so far I would imagine it would be off, been snowing here for 5 hours so far and it's moving that way. Sad

Lambourn trainer Mark Usher (@MarkUsherRacing) tweeted: "Managed to get first lot out, but roads are quite dangerous so we're snowed in. If Lingfield does go ahead it will be a question of whether we can get Mighty Mata to the races."

Lingfield to re-inspect at noon.

Clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross is concerned by the prospect of snow and called earlier checks at 8am and 10am.

Despite a light dusting of snow the track was still raceable at 10am. However there are reports that driving conditions in the area are starting to deteriorate and a number of non-runners have already been declared due to travel problems.

Was looking at a couple more at Lingfield. Plan was to take dog out for a walk then watch Lingers.

As momms said, markets suspended.

Lingfield abandoned:

The track was found to be raceable after inspections at 8am, 10am and 11am, but the tractor harrowing the track was starting to struggle to keep the all-weather track ready for action and with the snow showing no sign of abating, clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie-Ross was forced to call a halt to attempts to get the meeting to go ahead.

So, no GB racing today.

Does this mean we declare it an optional day? Presumably there's a precedent.
By:

Right, now we have to look at Dundalk. Do we make it compulsary or optional?

Bear in mind that most who have already posted won`t re-post at Dundalk.

Nineteen have already posted in the premier division (all n/r`s) can`t see more than 2 or 3 re-posting for Dundalk. So making it compulsory for the few remaining would be unfair.

Optional seems the fairest way to proceed.

Certainly I think it should be optional. What about players who've already selected at Dundalk? I've only got one, elvissss, who picked a reserve selection there in case his main selection's meeting was abandoned because he can't post again today. So he's the only one in Div 2 who doesn't have a choice.

I see what you mean.

He posted a reserve momms, surely he made his choice?

I agree a forced Sunday seems to be the sensible option.

Sureely turning it optional doesnt make a blind bit of difference, since any UK choices will automatically be 0 return anyway?
By:

When: 18 Jan 13 12:03
Yes, but would he have made that choice if he'd known he didn't have to? He can't now cancel it as he's out for the day.

Theres still a slight unfair advantage in that those who havent posted can now sit it out without fear, an option not open to those who have posted.
By:

When: 18 Jan 13 12:04
Reg, it makes a difference for those who haven't yet posted a selection.
By:

When: 18 Jan 13 12:06
Yes reg, that's the point I'm making with elvissss. He's the only one in Div2 who no longer has a choice.
By:
Shanelee1966
When: 18 Jan 13 12:08
I understand momms, some others won`t be aware it`s optional too.

He anticipated his main choice may not be running, i would imagine due to abandonment. That`s the minute disadvantage those that don`t have internet access/time during the day.

I had a sneaking feeling last night that Dundalk would be the only surviving meeting.

you going to re-select Shane or rely on the LRF ?
By:

When: 18 Jan 13 12:09
Indeed. The rules don't really cover this. My personal inclination would be suspension. Irish, Dubai etc are not considered the body of the competition, going by the instructions rule. But fine with optional.

Shanelee1966

momms - you have to make a decision re elvis. Do you take his reserve or cancel it?

I personally would let it ride. What if you cancel it and it wins?

Obviously you have to decide well before the meeting begins.

He's picked a slender 7/2 fav in a 17 runner handicap.

I'll take it if it wins and cancel it if it loses. Grin
