Warwick abandoned:

Clerk of the course Sulekha Varma had planned to inspect the track at 8am after reporting the course to be only just raceable on Wednesday evening.

However, further rain overnight has resulted in false patches of ground, forcing Varma to make an earlier call.

She said: "We had another 1.5 millimetres of rain overnight and that just left some areas of false ground, particularly at the end of the back straight.

"It's not safe to race, so we have called off the meeting.

"We don't race again until August 21 now, so hopefully the weather will have improved by then as that's our fourth abandonment this year which is less then helpful."

There is a great yellow disc in the sky over The Dales today --our forefathers tell us in tales passed down
of a time before the great rains that this used to be a regular occurrence in the months of July and August ..

it was good to see it in our lifetime ..
