Report Shanelee1966 March 22, 2012 7:17 PM GMT
The BHA will review its policy on the number of ‘chevron boards’ – deployed on a fence when it has to be by-passed- and how they used after the near disaster in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at last week’s Cheltenham Festival.
The final fence of feature race on day two had be by-passed after Wishfull Thinking had fallen on the first circuit.
Three chevron boards originally placed across the width of the fence were subsequently re-positioned to the inside to act a shield for jockey Richard Johnson and a photographer being treated on the landing side.

The procedure followed the official BHA directive but there was fierce criticism after Barry Geraghty on winner Finian’s Rainbow admitting he had not seen the markers and would have jumped the fence if he had not been for Andrew Lynch on runner-up Sizing Europe beginning to take evasive action.
Had he jumped the last obstacle Geraghty and his mount would have been disqualified.
While the outcome was ultimately the correct, common sense seemed to be lacking in the policy.
Cheltenham took no chances and deployed more than the required three ‘chevron boards’ at the last two fences, the widest on the track, for the final two days of the meeting.
Now the BHA has taken a first step in ensuring  a common sense response to a scenario which can be avoided.

Jamie Stier, BHA director of Raceday Operations and Regulation, said: ‘We regularly review our procedures and Instructions to ensure that they are working effectively and achieving their objectives.
‘It goes without saying that if there are any improvements to be made then we will look at ways to do so. In light of last week’s case we will be discussing with all racecourses the option of using additional direction markers at particularly wide fences to alleviate any concern or confusion for riders.’
Aintree, which hosts next month’s Grand National, is potentially the track most likely to suffer problems with the  laying out of ‘chevron boards’.
It has the widest fences in British racing, some 26m wide.
But clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch said that the track already goes beyond the BHA minimum directive.
Tulloch said: ‘We have six boards at every fence and more on  the support vehicles. We have assessed this and I’m confident what happened at Cheltenham would not happen at Aintree.’

josh monk & SkyAtlantic were top dogs yesterday, both on 3/1 winner, josh & Sky are both now safe and maybe have an eye on the top three, good call both of you.

cannyman moves into sixth place and i`m sure is enjoying his return to the top flight.

Well done all five.

No change at all down the bottom end with no-one improving their positions, i`m sure the winners will be flying in ensuring a bloody scrap, shaping up nicely down there Grin
