Betty's - thought we should start a new one..

You've gone for Kind of Easy in the 1.25 at Folkestone and I'm going with Lady Hight in the 3.40.
Was only thought to be 3/4 fit on debut and the stable have a line with the 2nd favourite and fancy it strongly. AP on board is always worth a few lengths.

With the weather, there will probably be a few meetings off and choice restricted.
GL with your selection although I've heard a good word for Invictus.

It's looking grim! Though, even in the unlikely event that we do qualify, starting next week with a 100-point deficit would make it mission impossible anyway.

In the hope that Huntingdon beats the frost, I've gone for Najca de Thaix e/w in the 12.35.  I suspect that there is going to be little or no turf racing during the week.

Have i got this right lads, i may as well go for a big price win ??
Report GEORGE.B December 12, 2010 11:25 AM GMT
Or we could select 8 even-money winners to give us a 60-point lead, and then hope for the best Laugh
Report Ra Nova December 12, 2010 12:24 PM GMT
Wouldn't go trying to find big priced winners, personally. If we can score with about five or six from the eight picks, we might make it interesting.
I'm swithering about one today at Southwell. I was keen on Muldoon's Picnic at Huntingdon, so disapointed to see the meeting is off.
Report GEORGE.B December 12, 2010 12:39 PM GMT
I've got an inkling for one at a bit of a price, so I'll take a chance with it, 10 points win.

Steed: 1.45 Suvvell (currently a 10 / 12-1 poke with the books).

The sire, Mujahid, has decent stats at the track (eg Hidden Glory won t'other day at 25-1).

Has shaped as if needeing more of a test than 6f (eg as when grabbing 3rd late on under today's jockey at Hamilton behind a Noseda hotpot).

Has Julie Burke's valuable 7lb claim to help and gets the cheeky-cheekpieces for the first time.

The run at Wolver LTO possibly not as bad as it appeared given he didn't get much of run around the inside.

A bit chancey this because the horse may not be straightforward (has been led to post and fluffed the start). But possibly some positives too, so that's where my pin has landed.

Good luck with your picks this week.
Report Ra Nova December 12, 2010 12:54 PM GMT
GL, George. I was keen on Love Delta in the 2.15. The way it won it's last race was quite remarkable but the trip of 7F does put me off a bit. It gets well behind in it's races and seems to resent the kickback.
I won't let it run loose and I'll have a few quid on Steed as well.

Had a great lift yesterday with an each way lucky fifteen. All four won at 5/2, 11/2, 4/1 and 11/4. Could have done with using one of them as a selection...
Report GEORGE.B December 12, 2010 1:02 PM GMT
Congratulations on the Lucky 15 win, RN.

I couldn't put you off Love Delta. Looks as if 7f won't be a problem on both sides of pedigree (damsire AP Indy) and runs like it could suit. But as you say, that tendency to get behind is a slight concern. The MJ horses seem right back in form after a lull.

Steed is a bit speculative, but in a weak race, worth a small bet.

Good luck.
Report GEORGE.B December 12, 2010 1:36 PM GMT
Having just seen that interview with Julie Burke on the chances of Steed, I'm hardly filled with confidence Sad I got the impression she was saying he's a bit of a hound!

Glad I didn't go with Love Delta - race panned out as I thought it might.
Report GEORGE.B December 12, 2010 2:36 PM GMT
Cheers, guys. It got a bit desperate in the last few strides but thankfully the head-bob went our way.

RN, he's either a horse to back when drawn on the outside (the outside appears an advantage today, incidentally) and can avoid the kick-back, or one for a small bet in-running at big odds.
Report bettysboy December 12, 2010 3:57 PM GMT
just got back from walking the dog and a few pints... CRACKING WINNER GEORGE. It's sure put it up to 'em and gives the rest of us a real fillip to back your winner up with a few ourselves. very nice Cool

It's certainly put a different perspective on things, BB - for now, at least, the chance to be more selective and play EW or at shorter odds.

I'm going to go for Omaruru ( each way ) in the 12.35 at Plumpton. The ex-Prescott flat stayer, Comedy Act, is odds on favourite but it's worth taking it on as it's first time over jumps and the sharp track at Plumpton is not sure to suit.
I managed to get 10/1 last night with Betfair but note it's down to around 6 or 7/1 now
Report GEORGE.B December 13, 2010 11:08 AM GMT
Shane, I know the horse quite well because when she ran at Wolver on her second run, she was still patently green and didn't handle the bend from a wide draw, and I thought the run was much better than it looked. So when she turned up at Lingfield 3 weeks later with a better draw, I napped her in the AW comp' and had a decent EW bet on her, and she did me a good turn coming second at 25s.

I must admit, the wide draw over 5f again worries me, but it isn't insurmountable. So good luck!
Report GEORGE.B December 13, 2010 12:49 PM GMT
Well done on the place points, RN.
A big thanks to Mark Bradburn for keeping that going for 3rd, imo, bearing in mind its third run for a mark, could've eased off slightly when his winning chance had gone.

could do with someone picking a 2/1 favourite?
Report bettysboy December 15, 2010 8:47 PM GMT
normally i'd be very happy with a 2/1 winner, but i think more may be needed unless the weather gets really bad Punts can't make use of all their selections. I'll be in no hurry yet to pick this week.
Report GEORGE.B December 15, 2010 9:29 PM GMT
22 points behind, and our 3 selections against their 6.

I don't think EW is any good unless it's a big price. Anyone got a 5-1+ winner up their sleeve Cool
Report Ra Nova December 16, 2010 5:54 PM GMT
3 winning favs might be enough, George?
Report GEORGE.B December 16, 2010 6:19 PM GMT
Say 3 2-1 shots?

Which would be 90 points and a 70 point lead, in theory. You could be right, RN.
Report grapevine December 16, 2010 6:33 PM GMT
my point GEORGE...... i think we need a bigger priced winner than 2/1. Easy to say much more difficult to provide. We still have two days... and so do the Punts..
Report GEORGE.B December 16, 2010 7:06 PM GMT
I must admit, bb, my inclination would be to try and find one at a price, but RN could be right and 3 winning favs may be enough if results don't go the Punts' way.

Whichever way you choose to play it, good luck.

Navan is on too, though I'm struggling to decide how to play this. Nearly 23 points behind, so a short priced winner required to even it up and maybe a longer priced one to clinch it....hhmmm
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 11:54 AM GMT
Well the Punts have made all their selections so I'm now considering one of Mubrook, Its All Hush Hush and Thunderball. Thoughts anyone?

Also - please look at possible wildcard, although I expect book will make a selection..
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 12:04 PM GMT
bb, I selected Thunderball in the AW comp' the other day and I wasn't impressed with the way he faded in the straight. Perhaps as it says in the paper, they'll ride him more patiently over a shorter trip.

Why does he appeal to you today?
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 12:24 PM GMT
GEROGE- i think he went quick over a mile the other day and although yet to win over 7f has placed nearly half the times hes run over it. BUT mostly i think the price looks good and if it does sneak a win then we'd be bang there with a chance of winning.
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 12:28 PM GMT
or it may be hes just there to tow along docofthebay
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 12:35 PM GMT
Dandy also has Something in there too, but he's very weak in the betting, though there's also a chunk up there wanting to lay the Doc at 8.8.
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 12:38 PM GMT
will wait until after 1.00 at Southwell to play - but looks like I'll pick one of the two in Ireland if the price seems good enough to take us ahead of the Punts.
Report Shanelee1966 December 18, 2010 12:43 PM GMT
Good luck chaps however you decide to play it today Happy
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 1:10 PM GMT
Ive pinned Mubrook at Navan. Should be about 4/1 and if krls selection wins we should add about 90 points to our total, with the Punts currently leading by 43 points. I think they've wasted two selections in the 2.40, so that leaves them with only Diggerat to score, if Silaah wins the 2.05.

We also still have books' selection - anyone got a wildcard lined up just in case?
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 1:17 PM GMT
Use one of your other selections, bb, if book doesn't show?

Last races are 3.15 / 3.25 (assuming Navan gets through the card).
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 1:34 PM GMT
bb, your 2 Navan selections are both non-runners.

So we still need 2 more selections (if book doesn't select).
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 1:37 PM GMT
thnx GEORGE - i've reselected Nightjar. Still leaves us with one pick - prob in 3.15 Southwell. Any thoughts?

N/R shane... a horrible race this last, Bel Cantor could win if running anywhere near his mark
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 1:48 PM GMT
I looked at the race thoroughly as I needed a selection for the AW comp', and I went round in circles.

Is today the day for Bell Cantor now its mark is down a little more?
Blinkers first time for Darcy's Pride - could they spark her back to life?
Ballyvonane - got a dirt pedigree but will he stay the 6f?

And I haven't mentioned the 2 favs!

What do you think?
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 1:51 PM GMT
FAV (AOS) seems to perform better in biggish fields so maybe not enough pace here.
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 1:52 PM GMT
Hang fire til after the 2.05, because if Bonnie Prince Blue wins, we may need one at a price.
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 1:53 PM GMT
GEORGE - i have to go out now. Can you select the wildcard?

ta,
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 1:56 PM GMT
No probs, bb, I think it will have to be one at a price in case the Punts' win the 2.40.
Report bettysboy December 18, 2010 1:59 PM GMT
thnx GEORGE - if the Punt win 240 then they deservedly win outright methinks, so not sure price will matter unless Silaah doesn't win 205.
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 2:04 PM GMT
OK, will select Bel Cantor if Silaah wins, if not - Ballyvonane at a price.
Report GEORGE.B December 18, 2010 2:09 PM GMT
Sorry, forgot about Nightjar. As we both thought Bel Cantor has a chance, I'll go with that.

Well done, bb, great call. I'm pleased Thunderball didn't win - I was getting worried when I saw it being backed.
