Good turf call, Ricky ! Flat taking an age to get going on terrible ground for me , no enthusiasm as yet - should be glad of the rest as it will be wall to wall before we know it - you got a good game plan for this season ?

Nicely RS and werbs.

werbie, I'm waiting for the ground to settle down too. May - July is traditionally my time of year - usually physically and mentally shattered by August and things go downhill. I'm ready to go when the madness of the flat season gets going. How about you?

When: 09 Apr 10 11:46
Yep, pretty much the same Ricky . A bit of success backing at southwell lately has rekindled my enthusiasm for having a crack at the turf . Think i got a bit tied up with speed figs in the past on turf & not taking other factors into consideration enough , have hopefully learnt enough last couple of years to make more of a go of it . Used to make a killing on the all weather but never had as much success on the flat , not been worth the time and effort previously , so hopefully with a few more strings to my bow, can make a go of it . If it does'nt work out then its back to laying jumpers ( boring ) and roll on the all weather . Good luck this season Ricky !

werbie, have you done your own speed figures on the turf in the past? I find mine invaluable and they give me the edge I lack on the AW (numbers still useful at Southwell but not so much on Poly nowadays with so many slowly-run races). Due to the ridiculous amount of time required to keep on top of the speed figures for the turf not too many people do their own numbers and, from what I can see, the figures in the Racing Post and Raceform are poor so there's an edge to be had. The trickier the rating of a meeting (rain during the meeting, straight/flat different going allowances, new distances) the better for the individual rater. That's not to say numbers should be followed blindly but they quickly identify solid/weak form and are a useful tool in the armoury of a punter. Best of luck for the 2010 flat!

Think you are spot on about individual assessment of the going at any given meeting Ricky, a large amount of my time is spent getting as close as i can to the exact going at each southwell meeting , then the rest is easy . Have compiled figures in the past but no time these days . cheers

Apologies for the c*ck up chaps.

I assumed that cgulll having posted his selection was provisional on me not realising my duplicate we would be ok with the selection!

Yeah, me too. With the one hour rule you can't wait to see if it has been noticed or you run out of races. Seeing as it was the same race and had no tactical implications in terms of price....
