all i can say, very loudly, is thank f uck for that. what a terrifying evening. i think a few of us have had it right off.

so, can i just say, bar a couple of people who could be irritating with their repetition and ramping, this x factor forum has been a wonderful place to be for the last three months, witty, funny, insightful, interesting....it's interesting how much people who dont use the forum actually miss out, not only in terms of insight but also life enrichment.

a few particular mentions

george bailey - brilliant work, assiduous, always on the money, patient, and a big thankyou for stopping me laying off a big portion of matt winnings today when the one direction train rode into town

squares - selfless research, meticulousl information gathering, brilliant analysis - thankyou

five leaves left, gymtanlaudry, henry, laughing gravy, george brush, dizzy, attitude adjuster, onthehushhush, mikey, and others - you have either helped me tremendously with your insight or made me laugh out loud, often both....

i spend a lot of time on the tennis forum, as i make my living trading on tennis, and i can say for sure that the level of banter, articulacy and analysis is comparatively pathetic. i was genuinely stunned by the quality of conversation....

i wish you all the best over the next few months, or until the next topic of interest crops up and you lot find yourself congregating in debate to work out a way of collectively stuffing the bookies. i will want to be there....

thanks guys, and happy new year

Very nice post, all the folk you mentioned fully deserve appreciation.

When some people were panicking about the plunge on 1 Direction the people you mentioned reassured them by telling them to hold their nerve, and once again they were proved right as they pretty much have been the whole way through this series.

Wish i had listened to their views on some of the evictions when they nailed some big price winners.

Cheers nick

Stick with the fundamentals and ignore the panics and you can't go far wrong in the long term.

It's good to see new faces about. I hope to see you over on specials sometime. There are plenty of other shows to bet on throughout the year.

The best compliment i could pay the folk righty mentioned on this thread is that if i was one of the big bookies i would hire them to be an odds setter for their special markets and entrust them with taking a view on the odds for a fair chunk of money.

Except, they probably do so well on here they would probably have to take a pay cut to work for one of the big bookies!

100% agree with nicf**kface these lads have made this profitable for me throughout this competition, I have left a thank you on a previous thread, I will make these forums my main place now for solid info. Again thanks lads you do a great job for many on here.

Thanks Nick,
A lot of the specials markets are formed here on BF and the High St bookies follow.  My gut instincts tell me that the 1D plunge wasn’t a genuine gamble but more likely a big High St bookie trying to manipulate the market.  Yesterday evening someone tweeted that Ladcrooks said they had a big gamble on 1D and had cut their price to 2/1.  Tonight, Ladcrooks have apparently reported they lost around a million on XF.  Laugh

Thanks Nick...  Once again a great summary and overview of the past few weeks!

It's been fantastic this year.  I've followed the XF forum for the previous two seasons but only this year got involved (too lazy to sort out that 'know your customer' verification nonsense)..  But having this exchange of views with everyone has definitely enhanced the whole viewing experience.

There is genuinely a great bunch of knowledgeable, insightful, perceptive and intuitive people on here, who are selfless with their time and input.  You just need to wade through some cr*p sometimes to get to it!

But yes, you've name-checked all the main players - again my thanks go out to FLL, GB2 and Jack for their stats, Squares for the tireless research, OTHH for the inside info, as well as the original GB, GTL, AA, Henry, Stoodle, Cider, Mikeey, NXRBL - and even Lou, the cantankerous old sod that he is...

You have really made this a fantastic (and profitable) ride.  I play all of the specials markets, so no doubt I'll be speaking to you some time again soon...  Until then, have a great Christmas and enjoy your winnings!
Report Dizzy42 December 12, 2010 11:48 PM GMT
Sorry, should have also name-checked LG, A1, Bunny and others...  Too many to mention, but it's been great.

oh and gtl, gone in heavily on mccoy, think he's absolutely nailed on at odds against....the racing fraternity will come together and make sure...
Report GymTanLaundry December 13, 2010 11:41 AM GMT
fair enough nick.  i still think amy williams is outrageously good value.

BBC will play up the olympics big time, plus the SPOTY audience/voters love an olympic gold medal winner.

Cheers nick.

A nice write up and totally agree (apart from the bit where i get a mention, ffs you d!ck).

You've been a great addition to the forum this series, enjoyed the banter, etc., and you'll have to move your topgun tennis thread to another forum so we can follow developments!

Too many great people on here who bring all sorts of different stuff to the table (banter, laughs, insight, stats, info, news, etc.) that there are just too many names to mention and someone's always going to get missed out.   Working from home would be much more lonely and dull with it all.

Here's to more of the same.

All the best y'all.

It seems again that the major players on it all did well, or at least avoided losses

I can't imagine there's anywhere in the known universe that has a betting forum as useful as this particular one.

Let's not tell tooooo many people about it [;)]

George could agree more, I will be back here for the real banter and proper info from the many who make this forum what is is. Class just like Rebecca [;)]

Report Dizzy42 December 13, 2010 12:44 PM GMT
I've said it elsewhere on another thread, but I'm amazed that the quality of info and insight on this forum never seems to infiltrate the markets, which is just fantastic for us - particularly when you've got people like OTHH on here!  Of course that doesn't stop the rampers, but as long as you can filter the cr@p that comes from the usual suspects, this has been a great haven for XF fans and specials punters for the last 12 weeks.
Report GeorgeBrush December 13, 2010 12:54 PM GMT

in the latter days the "shrewdies" on here pretty much called the 1-2-3-4 correct order even if the market and/or rampers would have you believe otherwise.

Just read this thread Nick. Thanks for the kind comments. Much appreciated. I'm very pleased if I helped you ignore the 1D hype; must admit I was very confident of that one.

has anyone looked at the vote numbers for each week and compared them to polls/itunes ratings etc and found which polls were close and which were a mile off?
would be good to know for next year thx in advanceHappy
Report George Bailey December 16, 2010 10:04 PM GMT
Had a quick look Mach but not done any detailed research yet but will before next year for sure.  The %'s reinforce how close it is at the bottom in the early weeks. If there was a million votes in week 1 then wagner was about 2000 votes from getting voted off...and the whole history of the world would have been changed Laugh
Report George Bailey December 16, 2010 10:31 PM GMT
Updates poll week 2 with 14 acts still left in nailed the final 4:

Matt Cardle (24%, 3,003 Votes)
Rebecca Ferguson (16%, 2,045 Votes)
Cher Lloyd (16%, 1,975 Votes)
1 Direction (14%, 1,828 Votes)

Nick if you think those voting numbers are low you should see Tellymix poll which was probably more accurate...quality not quantity [;)]
Report stringerbell December 18, 2010 1:52 PM GMT

No not really as I only go by those that allow one vote only. Very oddly papers like the mirror employ pollsters that allow multi voting...bizarre.
